Competitions 2015 Adelaide Oval Attendance Watch

Alright, get out your rulers, boys, it’s dick-measuring time. So far this year we’ve had the following crowds

Round 2: 49, 765
Round 4: 50, 675
Average: 50, 220

Whereas the Crows have had

Round 1: 46,491
Round 3: 43, 713
Average: 45,102

While we’ve admittedly had the benefit of high-drawing crowds and superior time-slots, it’s interesting that we’re 10% ahead of our “big brother” [sic].

Wonder if we can keep this up for the rest of the season. There are no prizes if we win, except imaginary internet points and bragging rights. And, after all the shit we got for our poor crowds, wouldn’t the bragging rights be especially delicious? Food for thought. Let’s see how this goes.
Why would you do this? They have beaten us every year for the past 18. IF we did finish ahead it would be 17-1 not really a victory.

What an odd thing to say.

We should get 50k crowds or close this year for the following:

Rd. 11: Geelong
Rd. 15: Collingwood
Rd. 16: Crows
Rd. 23: Fremantle

The Crows should get 50k for:

Rd. 5: Port
Rd. 9: Fremantle
Rd. 12: Hawthorn
Rd. 19: Richmond

Given our head start... yeah, it could happen.

Odd and very killjoy.

It was literally like saying that if the Crows had won every Showdown since 1997, and we won our first on Sunday, you wouldn't celebrate.

Look Chiggers.

In all likelihood they will beat us this year and every other year, they've got a fat larger readymade casual catchment to take up available seats in the event of weddings, parties, anything and so on.

But when you consider the prevailing wisdom that said we're a cottage concern on a par with the Norths and Footscrays of this world at best, fit for relocation to Tasmania or having the likes of Norwood and Centrals eyeing off our licence at worst, it is a worthy comparison especially considering we're still accused of owing zillions to the SANFL at least morally.

What we're seeing now with Adelaide Oval is exactly the kind of stuff we've been talking about for years on this board.

A truly neutral stadium that's centralised and our attendances will rise.

I'll never forget "Adelaide Oval will never happen" and the now defunct AAMI Stadium upgrade.

50,675 v Hawks is correct
50,397 v crows round 2 last year was complete bullshit. Was at least 2,500 more than that. There were noticeable gaps in the stands on Saturday night but there were SFA gaps first game last year.

I admitted I was being a tool, leave me alone or I'll report you to Eddie Dingle.

Whilst I'm here, I might as well vent a new whinge, which I must admit is probably directed more at the club. Now that they have allocated/sold a shit load more reserved seats in the Western stand, it is bloody hard to get a seat if you don't have one. Both games I've got there before 6pm, Sydney game we got seats 3 rows from the back, Hawthorn game we ended up standing. I know it's a whinge, but I've always liked the freedom of a non fixed seat, but now it appears that unless you're willing to get there 2 hours before the game, it's nosebleed seats in the western stand, so it's pretty much the same as A GA ticket, for more than twice the cost.
Yeah Essential Power memberships are shit now. The Western stand is just too small

Why would they have lied?
OH&S I'd guess. Don't want to be caught going over capacity in particular areas So they had to understate.

Why would they have lied?
Incompetence doesnt mean they lied just bloody sma didnt count properly. A shit load of corporates werent counted. Hundreds got there early and walked into the western stand via the gate between the cricket centre and the side of the oval which wasnt locked up and is opened up for exit post game.

Nah incompetence mainly and a bit of first game gremlins.

In the two games at AO so far this season, there has been hundreds of empty seats in the reserved section of the Western Stand either side of the Bradman Pavilion. Why so?

Also we seem to still have hundreds left in the red corporate seats of the Bradman Pavilion.

I hold an Essential Power membership but regret this after the changes to the reserved seating options on the western side.

It's disappointing that large chunks of the reserved seats have been vacant in both games this year. Seems stupid that our members are crammed into the outer edges of the stand when prime viewing seats just sit there empty - I'll take a few photos next game and post them.

Edit - you just beat me to it Winestoppable!

2 Saturday night games vs top teams helps.

They had an (Easter) Sunday afternoon game against Norf, and a Saturday arvo game against Melbourne. Two low drawing timeslots against low drawing teams. To top it off both were in the wet.

Apples and Oranges at this point. The Crows have done well to get that many to be honest!

Thanks Graham

I'm not sure we can say thats the only reason.

There's so many standing room spots that people are now aware of. Guys will mill in the standing room near bars etc, and its very hard to tell.

You dont think all those 50,000 crowds last year didnt have lots of blokes standing in front of the red brick walls (and yellow of bradman pavilion) of level two of western stand?

The Sma wont let us oversell the western stand like last year. The first game all the corporates rocked.up as did all the sma members. There was a stuff up for the first game. I look straight across to the bradman pavillion. The number of red seats I can see empty is a good indication of the crowd. There were bugger all last year rd 1, there were a few rows saturday night and even more against the swans.

Yes I do, but because lots of people are doing this, its hard to make an assessment based at looking at empty seatsa and feel we can be accurate to within a K or 2.

Also, we need to consider the makeup of the Western stand is very different this year with the number of reserved seats, forcing seats to show as empty in central locations, whereas these used to get filled up early by people looking for a good seat.

your correct its harder to oversell the western stand - because theres more reserved seats which can't be re-sold, however we also maintain a lot of unreserved outer seats, so we can oversell the outer still.

all I'm saying, is its not a simple exercise to guess the crows with such a mix of standing room, reserved, unreserved seats. I watch the crowd roll it, you see the top of the Riverbank and Eastern stand, plus the ends of the members fill up first (all reserved), then see the reserved seats fill late, and finally the corporate red seats show up as they feel like it.

Mate it might not be simple but only so many people can stand, and so many people can fit into the bar. The showdown last year was understated by 2.5-3k the place was packed. Everyone who had the right to attend did. People on here reported they got to the ground very early and just walked in and werent scanned in because the western side gate was open. Hundreds got in that way. I know several corporates who werent scanned in and the club knows it happened as well, but its was first game gremlins. The Hawks and Carlton crowds last year were not 2.5k more than the showdown but thats what the official figures say.

I've more than one occasion questioned the counting of attendances. There were games last year where I thought the number didn't match the crowd in both scenarios.
