Earlier this week I said that i preferred Schache to McCartin et al from last year, and that it'd be confirmed if he shows some dominance in the champs.

If he keeps this up, I reckon he could genuinely be considered a top 2-5 prospect.

Far more 'complete' than McCartin or Wright were last year.

Ooohhh! That is not good. Had hopes of a win at home.

WA: 2.2.14
Vic C: 10.9.69

Can't win a clearance and their defence is too small.

What WA needs is one clearance player to put their head over the ball and compete. Would be a different game.

Mathieson and Brodie the most influential players by a long way. Otherwise such one sided games generally make it hard to assess some individual players who are simply stamped out because of the position/ role they play.

Vic Metro hopefully allows WA to showcase what talent they do have.

Beat up a skinny kid in Rotham in the first. Looks fat, slow and lacking in athletic prowess. Hands are seriously strong, but just seems to stand and wait for the ball far too much for my liking.

Ahead of Wright, maybe. but McCartin?

VC 13.14 92 lead WA 4.5 29

The fact that Collins and Weitering have 13 marks between them is probably a fairly big reason as to why WA are having trouble scoring. At least Snadden is getting a bit of ball, the rest of the big possession winners are from Country.

I tend to agree. He should go reasonably early, but he's a brute as opposed to being a complete forward for mine. Will dominate against smaller opponents and with good delivery forward. But wont do as much if he has to work for it himself, the weight he has added on this year seems to have hurt his athleticism a bit. But he should get that back as the year goes on. I think he'll develop nicely, but he's no sure thing #1 forward yet.

How is Bailey Rice playing?

Having said all that, Schache now has 7 goals and 4 behinds into the last quarter...

Shows why everyone was pumping up Vic Country all of last year and earlier this year, they've smashed a Div 1 side with 3 (or 2, if you don't include Hopper) of their best midfielders out.

How in the name of GOD is this fat?!

That's why I was so disappointed at SA's efforts last week against WA. They should have won. Shows what you can do if you kick straight and let scoreboard pressure do the talking.

SA V VC will be a good game I hope!

Without an elite midfielder in this draft, Schache will go #1 IMO.
Luke Partington is an elite midfielder without question. Can play inside and out. Gathers the footy, links up well and can go isolated in the forward line and kick goals. Dylan Shiel like.

I'd still take Schache over him, especially if I was Carlton.

A photo is a photo and a flattering one at that. His body shape, his lack of speed/ agility and how he moves are dead give away to his sheer mass.

His strength and ability to ground himself in marking contests is real, even if it's against smaller and weaker opponents (some of those if drafted will fill out) with excellent supply. But that mass weighs him down and is also a liability from what i could tell. AFL grade football is more than ever a running game and Schache plays the game mostly in the air.

One occasion in the last quarter where he simply couldn't get down to reach the ball below his knees and he has a pretty monstrous turning circle. Weitering moves a lot better for a player of similar size and physical maturity.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on Schache.
