Not anymore. I was at the Royal Show when I found out Smack and someone else had been delisted.
The players probably get told at their exit interview, but the club doesn't make any public announcements until after trade week is done and dusted.

The thinking seems to be that they might be able to trade them and get something in return, whereas players who have already been announced as being delisted can get picked up as DFAs and the club gets nothing.

Very rare.. more worthy of note is the last sentence... "more (list changes) are expected in coming weeks".

The only players who get delisted are those they know won't attract interest from other clubs. I imagine the AFC are still pissing themselves with laughter over Essendon picking Smack up as a rookie. If there's a small chance of trading them, rather than delisting them outright, then they keep their powder dry until after trade week.

Even if you get an upgrade of half a dozen spots in the 3rd round. It's still an extra 6 players to choose from. Delisting early gains nothing.

why?

Wright has got to go...
As does Martin, Siggins, Osborne, Wilson, Pods, Reilly.. Shaw 50/50

If Danger stays then Thommo should go..

Need to be ruthless... Ramsay stays just!

Didn't Wilson come 5th or 6th in the sanfl crows b'nf.

Might have been his 29 hit out, 26 possession, 1 goal, 3 mark 9 clearance game against the Pies

Might have been his 31 hit out, 15 possession, 1 goal, 2 mark 2 clearance game against the Tiges

or even his 26 hit out, 24 possession, 3 goal, 9 mark 5 clearance game against GC

Funnily enough, those were his last 3 games of the year and I think he might have bagged the 3 votes for the GC game. Adelaide always knew he was a talent but we just couldn't quite get him to convert it onto the field. Not saying he will at Essendon and become best 22 but if he continues on in that style, he'd be a much better option than the underwhelming Bellendchambers

Thing is his best was always as a ruckman, he was never going to replace Jacobs. If Essendon try and play him as a forward for longer than small patches they'll end up with similar issues that we had.

With Smack, I thought that the damage was done with those seasons where we didn't have a reserves team. I guess a little like Gunston, he wasn't happy out there and didn't feel like he belonged at the Crows. I agree though, he is a ruckman and always has been but it was a little disheartening to see him running through the middle and hitting a forward on the chest with a kick that was good enough to bypass three opposition players trying to intercept. That sort of kicking wouldn't go astray in our midfield...

I doubt that very much given he's likely to be in their main list next year after peeforming well in the second half of the year.

If the Crows are a professional outfit they'll be trying to figure out what the Dons did to get good performance out of him that Adelaide could not.

I think this is it. Watching him in the Adelaide forward line made me wonder why he was recruited.

Bad hands, no awareness, no idea where to run doesn't call out to me "perfect ruckman" but he certainly came on at the end.

Same as James Sellar, spent most of his junior career as a ruckman but unfortunately failed to make the 198cm barrier to be a ruckman at AFL level. However had a number of qualities that made some think that they could become key forwards and both showed some reasonable signs on the odd occasions playing there as juniors. Unfortunately neither made the switch particularly well, however had both made it to 200cm, both probably would have carved out extremely good careers as ruckman, McKernan still might.

Their development was certainly made more difficult by being played predominantly in the ruck in their earlier years at Souths and Glenelg. If we'd had reserves, we might have been able to get enough game time into both as key forwards to change this.

We never backed him in. It's pretty simple really.

I wish good luck all and good fortune all. I think many go back to their village and live happy life mate.

Maybe some player come from village and play for Adelraide too mate

Ridiculous comment. Smack finished Top 10 in Essendons b&F despite playing only half the games. He had some ripper games and his season was 1000x better than Lowdens. The only laughter would be at your ignorance.

What's Kyle Cheney's contract status??

Surely there has to be a problem between Daniel Talia and Kyle Cheney after he dobbed M. Talia in to his Hawks mates and to where it has escalated into a full blown AFL investigation. That's without the fact M. Talia is now "dead" to the Dogs after previously having a 2 year deal put in front of him.

Was Cheney at the B&F??
