I still can't believe we have Dayne Beams. Only just starting to hit me how exciting our squad is going to be the next few years. I can't wait to see how much he can improve our team next season. From reports our squad is miles ahead of where we were last season with regards to fitness and team unity. I initially thought Leppa would be a floppa :$ but so far he has proven a very good 'peoples' coach. We have genuine X factor all over the park now and this pleases me.

Interesting to see the Hawks also having a camp in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast.

I'm assuming he looks with his eyes.
New father Jackess? Trying out the jokes on the board first while the kid is young and doesn't appreciate them? :)

Staker seems like another Leuenberger though.. weighs in more than what he looks. Was already the strongest at the club but now with another 5 kg of pure muscle added to his frame I think he may surprise a few key defenders he will play on. Personally I can't wait to see where the second year players have made gains, particularly McStay and Cutler.

“If I’m going to try and have a crack at a key forward position, that’s obviously a role that demands a bit more weight. And if I have to play defence on a bigger body, then I’ve got that size.”

.....

Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch is still yet to give any indication of where Staker might best fit into the senior team next season, but is likely to use him as a ‘swingman’ depending on the Club’s needs.

“I think I’ll be the utility I’ve always been,” Staker said.

Seems pretty clear that he's not locked into any one role yet.

If Stakes is bulking up you would expect him to be bookend size come the start if the season. Looking at our FB and FF stocks, a betting man would see him up forward at this point in time.

Unless they are grooming him for Patfulls old role I guess.
He doesnt read the play as well as Patfull does and Patfull could play small too, Stakes cant.

Both versatile in their own way. Patfull because he can play on bigs and smalls, Staker because he can play forward and back. At 196cm and 102kg, Stakes has got to play key position in a side that lacks them. I think his best value is forward but can do a role down back when we need him.

Gardiner probably takes the defensive role and they use the opportunity to bring in another runner. We need to get more run from behind and Patfull did lack the inclination to become involved in that side of the game. The changes could well end up helping our attacking game although admittedly it is likely that the defensive side could suffer for a while.

He didn't give a lot of run but his intercept marking was an attacking weapon.

I think it's pretty clear Gardiner is his replacement. Hopefully in a few years time he's at a similar level.
