The picture framing got pretty annoying, but that might be my kids flogging our internet connection too.

Allen Christensen set to make his debut for Brisbane Lions against Sydney

BRISBANE are set to unleash their second star recruit in two weeks with Allen Christensen poised to make his Lions debut this Friday night.

If Christensen can get through training unscathed this week he is set to line-up against Sydney in the NAB Challenge clash in Coffs Harbour.

Fellow new signing Dayne Beams was best-on-ground with 25 touches and seven clearances in Brisbane’s three-point win over St Kilda at Burpengary last Saturday.

Christensen — a 2011 premiership player with Geelong — had back surgery in September and has been slowly reintroduced into the main group at training.

If the Lions decide to take a conservative approach, he will rest this weekend and play against the Gold Coast in the final NAB Challenge match on March 20.

“I just have to wait and see. If not this week, I’ll definitely be playing against the Gold Coast,” Christensen said.

“I haven’t played for so long and haven’t trained at such a high intensity for so long.

“It’s just (a matter of) my body getting used to kicking and running at high speeds again, it’s all going well.’’

Christensen is keen to help the young Lions become a true force in the competition.

With the talented midfield bursting at the seams, he may be used in the forward line to help the green key position players.

“It’s an exciting thing for me to come here and be able to help lead this team into a direction they want to head in,’’ he said.

“To build from the inside out is something that his club take a lot of pride in. I think we are headed in the right direction to be a really good club.

“We just want to be the best team we can be.’’

Brisbane have gone past the 20,000 members mark, more than 1000 up on the same time last year.

"Jayden was a surprise packet. Originally an honourary member of the 'mozzie' squad, but I think he'll be a full member straight away. He looks the goods."

I smell an early debut for McGrath.

Couldn't take my eyes off his eyebrows. Reminded me of Bert of sesame street, especially raising them up and down.

Mcgrath did show some good skills on his draftee highlights package. Hopefully he will earn himself a few games this year despite being up against some the other very good small forwards/midfield types that we already have.

Friday's game will be interesting given the Swans haven't had a preseason game yet.

Whats everyone's changes for the game.

Out: Staker, Andrews, McGrath
In: Paine, Golby, Christensen/Cutler

Paine and Golby deserve a chance and are more likely to play round 1 than Staker and Andrews IMO.

Christensen an obvious in if fit. If not give Cutler a go for McGrath who is a long way down the pecking order for a game in round 1.

And Stef for Archie (Sorry James North)

I guess it's a fine line, trying to give our senior players some game time and playing blokes they're not quite sure on. All the while, there would be the desire to give kids a taste of what's required before spending their year playing NEAFL. I'd prefer to see the whole 29 man squad being allowed to play rather than cutting to 26. NAB challenge isn't even a comp anymore, is it? So having some semblance a 'real' game is not as important as just getting on the ground and playing.
I wouldn't think Staker would be rested. I think he'd be penciled in as a best 22 player and needs the time on ground before getting to the real stuff. Same for Richy, Leuey and Redden. Mcgrath and Andrews have had a go, and however well they went, should probably rest while others get a go. They can always come back in week 3 if warranted.
Like any week of team selections, there is always the possibility that players are left out for reasons only the coaches know. A niggle, discipline, or just not getting something right.

Out: anyone who shouldn't be risked with travel

In: young blokes

Yeah, six day break on an interstate trip. Should be uber-cautious with anyone who played a full game last week.
