Had a go on the ladder predictor ??? Who do you see Kedron losing to ??

I think its fair to say that Zillmere are the far and away favourites now. Kedron v Woodsmen on Friday will be a decent indicator of who is better placed to challenge Zillmere at this point in time.

There is obviously a lot of talk about the transfers across to Zillmere. I dont think there is much of a gap between QAFA A and B though. Kedron have now already played and beaten Zillmere and don't play them again. I dont see Kedron losing a game from here. My tip, Kedron will finish on top and Zillmere will finish second. Close battle for the other 4 finals spots.

Ah, I didnt realise Kedron dont play Zillmere again. I'm assuming they don't play Woodsmen again after this round? Also how does the top 6 finals system work?

Going off on a tangent here, but having watched a lot of local footy here in Queensland, the way that this rule is currently umpired is a joke !!

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl...ssue-facing-umps/story-e6frf3e3-1227324540885

AFL Laws have you seen it ??

Players leading with their heads is beyond a joke, and umpires continue to pay the high contact free kicks. This quote explains exactly how it should be umpired !!

“If you drive your head into a player there’s a rule that says that’s your prior opportunity so you must kick or handball, otherwise holding the ball."

Also, “If he has his head over the ball and he comes up and he ducks back down and the tackle is reasonable, therefore the force is not unreasonable let’s say, the umpires are instructed to call play on."

I hope AFLQ make a point about this particular rule to all of it's umpires.

Hello PN I think we all understand where you are coming from with this particular law of the game but as Campbell said it's not only here in Qld that this is an issue. The thing with this Law like many others is that it is open to interpretation at the time it happens (spare a thought for the hard working club umpires too and the job they do and our 1st and 2nd year umpires who are just starting out). I know it seems pretty clear cut but I can assure you that it is not. We as umpires have to make a split second decision from what we see and as an umpire especially in community competitions I make no apologies if I get this law wrong from time to time ( I will get most other free kicks wrong anyway) as my main priority is to protect a players head and I assure you as I said it's not as easy as it sounds to get the correct interpretation all the time but we do our best ....... and yes sometimes our best is not correct.

I have seen this Law umpired very well with local umpires and yes I have seen and probably umpired this law not so well but all we can do is learn from our mistakes (a lot of players say I haven't learned anything since I started umpiring) and we will make mistakes with this law and plenty of others too. Things like this are often bought up at umpiring training but we can't have blinkers on about 1 law because if we do our other decisions will suffer. Overall I appreciate where you're coming from and like you I hope all of us umpires continue to improve in our interpretation of this law and all laws in general.

On another note one of our senior umpires (thankfully for all it's not me) has suggested we start a forum where questions like this and other questions regarding umpiring could be asked and answered (Not a forum for bagging the crap out of umpires though). What are the thoughts on this? I know umpires aren't everybody's favourite people but we also love this game, want to be involved and apart from me are just normal blokes and girls

Thanks for your reply Moro. You make some good points. I understand that umpires do occasionally make mistakes, but this rule in particular I felt was worth bringing up, as I have seen it umpired incorrectly a lot at this level, and from a neutral point of view it would seem the umpires didn't understand this rule, thus always awarding a free kick to the player who was blatantly driving with their head trying to win the high contact free kick, when they really should have pinged them for holding the ball, or at the very least called for a ball up.

I think a forum for Q & A is a very good idea, and with some regulation could work quite well. I think most players and fans have a great acceptance for umpires. The job they do is not easy, and most do a great job. In the heat of the moment it is easy to disagree with a decision, but if overall the game is umpired fairly, and kept under control, players, coaches etc would commend the umpires on a job well done after the game.

If their Facebook page is accurate (which it normally is, they really should make that thing private...) then they are no chance.

3 of their starting 4 midfield setup won't be playing, including Dobson and McCewen.

Forecasted heavy rain on Friday lasting all day. Looks likely that all matches would be cancelled.

Why would you cancel games because of rain. That doesn't seem right. Who calls the games off aflq. We played in swamps last year when it rained. This can not be right.

just a reminder to those who are registered players this year (and could be identified from usernames, i guess) that is a very bad idea to criticise AFLQ's weather policy on any form of social media

Why ??? It is a joke of a deal and they need a long, hard look at themselves !! Probably part of the reason footy in QLD is still in the dark ages !!

OK I dont think anyone is having a go at aflq. I don't know of any policy about rain. You blokes are taking the piss to get a rise. Rain wouldnt stop footy. Unless your ground is two inches under water. I'd get that.

Usually it's the clubs administration or even grounds stakeholders such as council closing ovals & calling off games, particularly this early in the season as the grounds get smashed and they then have no chance to recover with multiple teams from juniors to seniors all looking to get out there again the following week for training. This can leave them grass less and progressively getting harder during our predominantly dry winters.

So what happens if games called off. Is it just taken out of the season or do they make the game up. I know at our club we have already planned things for the bye weeks. So some players won't be available on those weekends.

Up to the clubs to try and work it out, if not they share points. I think you get given 6 weeks post cancellation to try to arrange a replacement game.

I guarantee Yeronga vs Kenmore won't go ahead, and if the Woodsmen were planning on playing at Yeronga if their lights aren't ready - they won't get a game either!

Remember last year folks? the GF was moved in this league when it wasn't raining!

Well there you go I learned something today. Let's hope it doesn't rain and get in the way of men playing footy.

Which is what 200mm of rain usually does. its mildly amusing when ppl criticise councils for closing down games.

It rains heavy down our way and oval is good to go in no time. We played last year in 4 games that was really heavy rain. Including a final so it seems just a bit strange to me.
