2015 Round 1 Line up

As always, someone will rip it up in the NAB cup and force themselves to be selected that most of us don't have included.
It's a contract year for Jarrad Grant...

Yeah.....I can't get into my round 1 team. Which is good, he could easily be in it. I hope he stars, I like Spindles he's an unusual character.

Morris - McGovern
Talia - Kennedy
Roughy - Lycett
Wood - Lecrae

Alarm bells are well and truly ringing. Big game needed from the mids.

Well Picko could take Le Cras, but he's their most dangerous so Murphy gets him in my book if Picko does not....Lycett to my knowledge has not done that much as ruckman let alone a forward. Can Talia Handle Kennedy, well who knows but the kid gets his chance. You are spot on, the defense is only as good as the up field pressure.

interesting how WCE can have 3 genuine talls in their forward line and yet we baulk at it.

Peter Gordon was saying on 774 ABC radio this morning that with his insider info it is looking really good for the asada players to be available for round 1, so Crameri might be good for a start.

Yeah I heard that interview, it's an interesting gig he has with 774, it's great exposure for the club and recommend anyone listen to it on Friday morns when they can. Peter Gordon is a good Bulldog man and we have been lucky to have him and David Smorgon before him and Peter Gordon before him. :D

The guy before him.....well he tried.

I think Roughead should be played in the forward line pretty much all year. Tom Boyd and Roughead would be a tough match up for just about every back line in the AFL: they're both the size of ruckmen, and so would be too big and hopefully too strong for the vast majority of defenders. And, when Roughead is in the forward line he can replace Minson in the ruck when he needs a rest - you can't really move your full back into the ruck if he's currently manning up on the opposition's full forward. So, I think that this move would greatly improve the forward line, and it would also (hopefully) immediately resolve the second ruck situation.

Then, the back line will be extremely inexperienced, but, given that list of average games played that was posted in one of the other threads, I think the list is young and inexperienced across the board anyway!

Roughie should just play on the opposition 2nd ruck and follow him into the ruck. If there is no designated 2nd ruck, play him forward

A few things.

  • Hunter is more of a forward than a defender. One of his biggest strength is his smarts, and you need smart players forward of the ball.
  • I am looking forward to seeing Redpath grow as a footballer. I was stoked the day we drafted him, having had a bit to do with him at Kyneton as a 16/17-year-old when he did his knee in consecutive years. He thought his football dream was over the day he went down for a second time. He was on fire that day.
  • Koby Stevens should be in the best 22.

I'm still repeating 'Moyd' and 'Toyd' to myself.

Why should Stevens be a lock for our best 22??

My only locks are Murphy, Morris, liberatore, Minson, Macrae, Stringer, The Bont, Crameri, and Roughy. Could argue Picko and possibly Moyd due to mature bodies. That's about it.
I reckon you can throw Hrovat into that list too TK. He's pure quality. Agree there are a lot of holes to fill though.

Assuming dal was just an oversight.

That sounds like a perfect plan for him, actually.

So you propose that Minson should rest at full back, or worse, play a KPD short while Roughy rucks?

C'mon guys seriously, actually think about these moves.

I feel he is underrated on this board big time. He is still improving and is an awkward match up due to his size. He's not the most skillful or talented player but he works hard and gets the job done. He has the ability to become a Joel Corey type player. He had huge wraps when he was first drafted by West Coast.

Jarrod Grant...sheesh...love him when he's flying because he's too hard to match up on and has more X factor than than anyone else on our side. You can't put a bulking back man on him because they're not quick enough. Can't put a small defender on him because he's too tall.

He should be a 30-40 goal a year lead up HFF'er who can drag a small defender to the goal square.

Maybe he's in our Rd1 side and given free license to run? I had him in my side in place of Crameri if he was suspended.

Maybe his chances have all run out?

Anyone else have him in our side straight up?

Yep he in my side straight up

I know he has had chances and this is his last but he gives us height, speed, agility, goal sense and X factor something others that some people are picking before him don't give us.

Alongside Boyd Red Crameri And Stringer he won't have best defenders so I think he will perform

He wouldn't need to. If roughead plays down back while the second ruck is forward and then follows him into the ruck then you don't need to reshuffle the backline at all.

Not sure if he has the tank for it but would love to see him played as our version of Westoff.
Need to give Grant a chance this year, last season was destroyed by injury.

My team from early December, based on info to date only change I'd make is Redpath in for Campbell, loosing Bont more into the midfield.

FB Morris Roughead Darley
CHB Wood Roberts Murphy
C Macrae M Boyd Hrovat
CHF Stringer Bont Hunter
FF Dalhaus T Boyd Stevens
Foll Minson Libba Wallis
I JJ, Picken, Campbell/Redpath
Sub: J Grant
