2015 Round 1 Line up

Saw a comment in one of the articles that ayce is pushing will for the no. 1 ruck spot. Can any of the close training watchers confirm this or a bit of spin to give the kid a boost? Could bev throw things on the head and start minson forward?

Don't know if you'v been paying attention but we just lost 2 starting midfielders in Griffen and Cooney and Jong was by far the best midfielder in the VFL team by the end of the year. So logic would suggest that he would take 1 of the spots available. And that's even assuming he hasn't improved at all, which is unlikely given his build, age and untapped potential.

He might not play round 1, who knows. But it's certainly not a stupid suggestion to make.

Don't know if you'v been paying attention but we just lost 2 starting midfielders in Griffen and Cooney and Jong was by far the best midfielder in the VFL team by the end of the year. So logic would suggest that he would take 1 of the spots available. And that's even assuming he hasn't improved at all, which is unlikely given his build, age and untapped potential.

He might not play round 1, who knows. But it's certainly not a stupid suggestion to make.

We don't have another speedy inside mid on our list so for me he gets first crack. Also Stevo and Landsberger have been pumping up his preseason. Think his fitness has got way better as well so I'm presuming he is in round one particularly with Bev preaching team balance which I think Jong will help provide.

How many times has it been said on here that VFL and AFL are chalk and cheese and success if VFL is no proof of success in AFL .

Go and watch him train and he stands put like a sore thumb with his skills of foot(or lack there of). I can understand how some may think he can make the squad but of this kid is starting I the midfield I'm backing us for a very very long year

Yeah I have stamped his papers I'm not afraid to admit this but unlike many I can open my eyes and look at this from the other side

I've never said he hasn't improved drastically and he has no doubt, although from a very low starting point improvement was basically guaranteed BUT I agree he has gone past any normal rate of improvement but now he is at the point where he is trying to get a spot in an AFL team and as many said he was going well in the VFL late last yet and still couldn't crack a permanent spot.

But like so many on here they dobt even read my post then comment. I said I understand why some have him in the team in their opinions but he has to be brought in slowly and strategically IMO and throwing him straight into the midfield will end up in poor performances and back to the VFL

Prople can dream but this kid is not ready to play a major role in the midfield and anyone that thinks that hasn't been and watched training, sure he definately has a real crack but his decision making and skills are still a fair bit behind

My point was Griffen and Cooney out of starting 22. Jong was the best midfielder at the end of last year. You do the maths and tell if it's still stupid of people to suggest he might start in the 22.

Lol ok thanks for that I do try but with limited brain capacity I do struggle

But yeah it's great logic to think that because he was good in the VFL he auto takes the spot of a starting mid in the AFL jumping all those blokes already in the AFL in other positions and on the bench

Hell why not make him captain seeing his VFL form was good coz that's logically the next step by this form of logic

Think Jongs defensive running through the midfield is going to be super important this year, going the other way he's a bit suspect by foot sure but you know you're at least going to get a line breaking 20m burst and either a long kick or he can start the chain of handballs seeing as it looks like we will have quite a few streaming forward.

His tank has been what's holding him back so great that it sounds like it's improved.

For the first time since 2006 I've actually had to ignore a poster.

But anyway, there's a spot for Jong in the starting side if he wants it but he'll be learning on the job. Griffen and Cooney has opened up that spot to a lot of the younger guys with Jong leading the race due to his great VFL finals efforts but he's no certainty and will struggle at times.

If he wasn't good enough he would have received the same treatment that Greenwood did. Rather, he was elevated to the senior list. Clearly not everyone agrees with your view, including our list manager.
