Just watched the usual Monday night lineup of Footy panel shows. Lots about Phil Walsh of course and rightly so. But when they got to the on field stuff, if you did not already know you would have been hard pressed working out who Essendon played. The almost total lack of credit for St Kilda's performance was predictable, pathetic and consistent across all the shows, across all the channels. The only indication of Essendon's opponent was comments along the lines of "they lost to a bottom 4 team", "they lost to last years wooden spooners".
A total show of disrespect to the St Kilda football team.
So I turned it off and watched the game again, for the 3rd time and a thought occurred to me. How appropriate it was that we wore predominantly white and they wore predominantly black. The forces of good against the forces of evil. The pure infectious joy of the young enthusiastic Saints against the jaded, weary Bombers, playing with a spirit corrupted by the "win at any cost" attitude of an arrogant and delusional oligarchy.

I agree, it has been painfully obvious that to most of the media the story is the poor Dons not the great Saints.

I have to be honest, I actually though we were a bit scrappy at training on Sunday. A lot of missed chances and quite a few loose handballs/kicks but the witches hats obviously couldn't out-chase moving footballers.

If we played our best footy on Sunday it would have been a 160+ win. The drug cheats were insipid.

Bloody hell if that clip of Rooey meeting the two cerebral palsy lads doesn't get you a bit choked up nothing will.
What a great club we are all a part of.

Its nice that instead of keeping this stuff quiet, (which is what used to happen that they go ahead and put it in th media.

I am sure the club used to do all this stuff. but it was never previously showcased in the media.

Escape from LA with our main attraction CALL ME SNAKE

WTF! Get Matt Finnis onto this one as they've blacked out the St.Kilda logo from his eye patch on every single frame of the movie.
Augh!!!

Making excuses for his mate Watters

he has an obvious beef and needs to let it go. watters dug his own grave

having said that he was right in what he was saying about carlton and where they are at. I cant think of a coach that survived his appointment when they take over just before they bottom out

you need a settled board, good ceo, good list manager and recruitment team and most of all a very clear and transparent strategy and direction

Best line? "Where's Shanners?! Oh, where's Shanners?!?!?!?"

Gold.
My better half didnt follow the footy at all when we first started dating.
So I dragged her along to a few Saints games to see if she liked it.
About the 3rd game I ever took her to was the infamous hail storm game Vs The Bears at Waverley.
She lost interest for a few yrs after that:p
Then In 1996 she went to 2 games . The Pre Season Grand Final and the Ess game when the ' Lights went out'.
Took her a long time to go again:D

Riewoldt relishes AFL youngsters

The master and his apprentice finally came together in St Kilda's forward line.

While Sunday's 16-point AFL loss to Richmond was an emotional game for Saints captain Nick Riewoldt, it was also a symbolic moment for him and the club.

Riewoldt and his understudy, Paddy McCartin, were in the same side for the first time.

McCartin was last year's No.1 draft pick and the Saints recruited him to eventually take over from Riewoldt as their main key forward.

McCartin has not played a senior game since round four, while Riewoldt had to overcome a calf muscle injury to play against the Tigers.

Riewoldt was determined to play, given the game was a fundraiser for the foundation set up in memory of his late sister, Maddie.

The game was also the AFL debut for key defender Hugh Goddard, the second St Kilda pick in last year's draft.

Just as they hope McCartin will one day lead their attack, so the Saints are planning for Goddard to be the bedrock of their defence.

"It was a great day for the club on a lot of fronts," Riewoldt said.

"To have our two bookends for the next decade out there was fantastic.
