Just listened to the AFL Daily they did on the Saints today. Jeez Barrett and Nat Edwards are such a pair of downers. Funniest part was they describe Jack Macrae as a "solid player" at the Bulldogs. The guy is a three time AA ffs.

Honestly Damo is basically unlistenable when it comes to the Saints. Genuinely clueless.
Haven't listened, won't listen.

If we won the premeirship Barrett would find some reason to put an asterisk there. I think the ghost of Spud haunts the campaigner every night. Ill informed with extreme prejudice; that applies to most of the footy media except for the ones that actually know what they are talking about and can be objective, but "Damo" sits atop the smouldering pile of excrement as a bloke who should shut up and listen a lot more.

Happy for him to keep bagging us because his opinion is not respected but I don't understand what value he brings to the AFL media. He is the media version of Alan Richardson and Tony Elshaugh. Thank god we didn't also employ him, although we did employ "Purple Lite" - Tom Morris - for some time.

Honestly, it is 10 minutes I will never get back. I’ve unsubscribed them.

Gloomy. Negative. Pessimistic. Talking the team down. Barrett facetiously reiterating the unfairness of getting pick 8 for Battle and sarcastically suggesting how Saints fans always jump to the club’s defence.

Barrett, being the oracle of achievement that he is, basically said St Kilda winning 6 of the last 9 games was meaningless. Despite the club defeating Sydney, Geelong and Carlton on the way home.

Barrett even questioned Lyon and Basset’s tenure going forward. Absolute drivel.

It was a rather pathetic effort. If I was describing the attitude they BOTH had towards the club the word I would use is contemptuous.

It's all rather cyclical - we call him out because we know he's a useless sack of excrement. He takes shots at us because we call him out because we know he's a useless sack of excrement. Which gives us further reason to call him out because he takes shots at us because we call him out because we know he's a useless sack of excrement. Then he takes more shots at us which gives us further reason to call him out because he takes shots at us because we call him out because we know he's a useless sack of excrement.

Round and round we go.

He's a bland version of Caroline Wilson. He's a low level downewr vibe who digs in bins and plumbs the depths. Cornes is more a shock jock type of operator and goes overt. Whateley is like the gossipy old tuck shop lady, Robbo the drunk guy at the pub that heard something from a mate of a mate. They all have a role I guess.

My problem is that they all want to hide behind journalistic integrity (or at least the perception of it) while acting as commentators and pundits. All of them seduced with the idea of being celebrities and enjoying the status that it brings them, believing that they are stars of the game, they are all the least important people in the game, way beneath the volunteers at local clubs, running the canteen, or running the boundary or keeping score .

If we know who they support they're useless when critiquing their own club and other clubs too.

Do these people realise almost this same list made finals 12 months ago? It shouldn't be hard imagining a list who has already made finals making it again.

Our list is as good as almost all their 'finals contenders'. Just a lazy media narrative these days that it's not.
It’s not the same list. Missing Battle (who finished top 3 in the B&F) and Membrey (top 3 goalkicker) next year. Mackray will only add a little as it’s his first year in Saints colours. People take a good year before they settle into a game plan. Bottom 4 looks about right to me as much as it hurts.

I'm willing to bet we hardly notice Battle missing, and McCreigh will slip in seamlessly

AFL media at least in Victoria comes in 4 Categories, Ex Players who have **** all charisma and just rant or say stupid shit (BT, Darcy, Selwood, ect ect), Private School kids who need to be bashed or at least ****ed off to a warehouse job in seaford while pallet jockey who actually knows his shit is allowed to report on football, Craig Hutchinson and his dickhead employees (see Barrett), and lastly the rare good journo and ex player.

I’ll tell you guys something that may shock you about Damo, but he loves the Saints and is close mates with BJ and Ross Lyon.

Kane Cornes is apparently a great guy in regular life too. A lot of media types are quite different away from the camera.

I reckon it goes either way. Overall I think we improve. Injury and fixture will dictate how much of that is on the ladder.

Then why is he such a tapeworm?

I suppose you have to earn your wage somehow.

Bloody hell Burkey, no need to air our old dirty laundry from so long ago in public.
Pretty pathetic from Burkey TBH... admits he didn't know the key details & that the club dragged its heels in re-signing Ross but then sinks the boots in.

No mention of the dismissal clause that Nettlefold tried to sneak into the new deal either (which Ross has said was the point at which he lost trust with that board).

Hardly dragged our feet.

We lost the final on the 11th, his Manager agrees to an extension on the 15th only to be told that Lyon had been going behind his back (and the clubs) by seperately negotiating with Freo.

Lyon wanted a longer contract because he lost money investing, not the clubs responsibility to fit his requirements.

Clearly the Board was worried that he was coaching for himself and not the future of the club and as it turned out, it seems like they were right.

Not what happened at all.

Just laughable & no in-depth understanding of how Saints were screwed over early in the 2024 fixture. FFS authors even have bombers contending for finals 😆🤦🏼

ST KILDA - BOTTOM FOUR

The Saints made the most of their favourable fixture at the end of the 2024 season, winning five of their last six games - including a victory over Geelong in Round 23. That being said, the main question fans will be asking is ‘where was this at the start of the year?’ The club recruited ball magnet Jack Macrae during the trade period, but also lost Josh Battle and reserve ruck Tom Campbell, now leaving all eyes on who they will take in the draft with Pick 7 and 8. Having won just one final since 2010, it’s hard to see their list rising suddenly to make finals; especially given the already fierce competition between clubs to make the eight. A breakout season from Max King and a midfield with more flare could be the two things that shoot them up the ladder more than we predict.

Well, I immediately lose interest in their opinion when they can’t even spell “flair” correctly.

This is a mock draft, was wondering if anyone has access to the whole thing to see who we picked? https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/...ive-coverage/2137e80d0401d4a88d163d300a57a719
PICK 1 - LEVI ASHCROFT (Brisbane Lions)
PICK 2 - SAM LALOR (RICHMOND)
PICK 3 - ALIX TAURU (NORTH MELBOURNE)
PICK 4 - FINN O'SULLIVAN (CARLTON)
PICK 5 - SID DRAPER (ADELAIDE)
PICK 6 - JAGGA SMITH (MELBOURNE)
PICK 7 - JOSH SMILLIE (RICHMOND)
PICK 8 - HARVEY LANGFORD (ST KILDA)
DAN BATTEN SAYS:
Doesn’t offer the explosive speed that some other top-end midfielders in the pool have, but his combination of size, ball-winning, marking and scoreboard impact gives St Kilda’s engine room another dimension. Langford was joint Larke medallist as the best player at the national championships and has been consistently dominant all year long.
DRAFT DOSSIER NOTES: Langford’s strong form had been flying under the radar before the national championships, but now he shapes as a potential No.1 contender after continued dominance for Vic Country and the Dandenong Stingrays. The strong 191cm midfielder – who models his game on Western Bulldogs champion Marcus Bontempelli – was a joint winner of the Larke Medal after an outstanding campaign on the big stage of the under-18 national championships. He averaged 26 disposals, eight score involvements, six clearances, six marks and 130 SuperCoach points for Vic Country. Langford’s contested ball-winning, penetrating left boot, overhead marking and forward-half impact stood out throughout a well-rounded tournament where he broke games open on a consistent basis.

PICK 9 - LEO LOMBARD (GOLD COAST SUNS) *Matching St Kilda bid
PICK 10 - TOBIE TRAVAGLIA (ST KILDA)
DAN BATTEN SAYS:
Travaglia or key forward Harry Armstrong? I agonised over this choice, but went with the running power of Travaglia, with this area a clear target in last year’s draft. Travaglia has drawn comparisons to Will Day with his size, line-breaking and ball-use. Will likely start in defence or on a wing, but I can see him moving into the engine room eventually.
DRAFT DOSSIER NOTES: One club coach has dubbed Travaglia the ‘Albino Whitfield’, and it is easy to see why. Just like the Giants star, Travaglia has elite skills, breaks the lines and can run all day. He showcased that running ability by finishing second in the 2km time trial at the national draft combine in October, crossing the line in 6min 13sec. Travaglia’s national championships ended in heartbreak after he gave away that infamous free kick and a 50 metre penalty to Luke Trainor at the death of the final match. But that game alone saw his draft stocks rise regardless. Stationed at half back, Travaglia cut through the Vic Metro defence with his run and neat footskills, racking up 25 disposals, nine marks, six intercepts and 130 SuperCoach points.

PICK 11 - HARRY ARMSTRONG (MELBOURNE)
PICK 12 - ISAAC KAKO (ESSENDON) *Matching Richmond bid
PICK 13 - LUKE TRAINOR (RICHMOND)

PICK 18 - TAJ HOTTON (GWS GIANTS)
PICK 19 - JACK WHITLOCK (GWS GIANTS)
PICK 20 - JOE BERRY (WESTERN BULLDOGS)
PICK 21 - COOPER HYNES (RICHMOND)
PICK 22 - JONTY FAULL (SYDNEY)
PICK 23 - ALEX DODSON (RICHMOND)
PICK 24 - JESSE DATTOLI (GWS GIANTS)
PICK 25 - SAM MARSHALL (BRISBANE LIONS) *Matching Sydney bid
PICK 26 - CHRISTIAN MORAES (SYDNEY)

PICK 28 - Richmond – Harry Oliver (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro)
PICK 29 - Western Bulldogs – Ollie Hannaford (Greater Western Victoria Rebels/Vic Country)
