I'm a little perplexed by the negativity towards Aish.

The kid looked pretty good in his first year, as evident by his rising star nom. 2 years out from his draft he was the talk of Adelaide.

Consider what Aish was doing as a 19yr old in a poor side, then look at where Sam Mitchell was at the same age - not even viewed as good enough to be on a list.

Aish could absolutely thrive at Hawthorn.

And I hope he does!

You think the Carlton recruiters regret the day they listened to Ratts and recruited Kane Lucas at pick 12 in the 2010 draft.
A person a sit beside a work 1st cousin was part of the recruitment team for that draft and they were all set the read out Nat Fyfe's name at that pick, but Ratts at the very last second made them recruit Lucas instead. Man was that a miss.

Wow, that is unlucky. Apparently Adelaide nearly fell over themselves when they were able to select Daniel Talia with the very next pick. When you consider Carlton's many gaps, a player of Talia's ability would have been handy.

Also, I heard a story that SOS, whilst at the Giants, just shook his head when Carlton called out Blaine Boekhorst's name last year.

I saw one of our recruiters utter a quiet "fcuk" under his breath when Collingwood called out Brayden Maynard's name with the immediate pick before ours last year (Dan Howe). Clearly Maynard was a target.

He's not a spud. He's a very good player. A good addition to the list.

If all you want to do is talk about danger, bennell and treloar- only one of which we are in any way a realistic chance of getting- perhaps go and start the "danger bennell treloar fap fap" thread. Otherwise try and consider that list management is a little deeper and more complex than some bigfooty circle jerk over the same fappable players over and over again.
Worst reply ever. Read my post properly and stop naming mediocre players. Okay mate? Or should I say mr. Crouch? Spud farmer.

When did I state this?
Please quote
Once again someone on these threads has a differing opinion to you and then you proceed to make things up
You have a history of this
Discuss intelligently or don't bother

He's talented.....what's not to like ?
Talented where.. In the Juniors/

Needs to show a bit to deserve the hype IMO

I'm sorry am I not supposed to read into your comment above that the only talent he has shown is in the juniors even though you specifically mentioned it . No mention of any of his previous years in the system. Then finished it off with "he needs to show a bit to deserve the hype" Show a bit of what, talent in the AFL ?
Then your response to my quote explaining that he had a very good first year and polled well in the rising star was that "Rhys Palmer is a dud, what's your point!" lol...........What the hell is going on here !

Roddy27 is very well respected on this board. Especially when talking about undrafted talent and academies etc. All he was asking is that we look at options that are not 5 star trades that will require a lot of bleeding to make happen. There was certainly no need for the spud farmer remark. Most of us are on here are fans with an opinion but there are also some posters with real background and a depth of knowledge. It is not always easy to tell them apart.

He completely missed the point. A graders are leaving and not coming to hawthorn and we cannot keep going with the same group and definitely need A Grade talent in the middle which we don't quite have (23 to 26 age brackets) so, to put up and then push feverishly for crouch ( dunno his first name but looks like jarred Morton) is not even in the same league. THAT was the argument. Danger ? No. Treloar ? No. Bennell? No. Crouch???? **** no!! To me, the other poster ( can't remember his name) offers up a spud, it's not because he is anymore knowledgeable than anyone, it's because he has family ties with the spud.

You'd do well to have a rethink before posting tripe about Roddy.

He's a longtime poster, who has gone to great lengths in identifying and discussing young talent over the years.

No more of this 'spud farmer' rubbish.

This is how I see us lining up next year.
OUT: Suckling(FA), Hale(retired), Lake(retired), Simpkin(traded)
IN: TBA

FB: Stratton - Frawley - Duryea
HB: Litherland/Whitecross - Gibson - Birchall
C: Smith - Shiels - Hill
R: McEvoy - Lewis - Langford
HF: Rioli - Schoenmakers - Gunston
FF: Puopolo - Roughead - Bruest
I/C: Ceglar - Mitchell - Hodge - Burgoyne

MID/UTIL Depth: Hartung - Anderson - O'Rourke - Howe - Sicily

Notes:
Starting 18 has an average age of 26
Mitchell, Hodge and Burgoyne to play off the flanks and to play bit part roles. Go through the middle when needed. Mitchell in their a bit more than the others to help develop the young ones.
Have to re-sign Schoenmakers. He's a good forward and I think he's our best swingman. He's serviceable when down back. I know Cameron destroyed him, but Schoenmakers trained all year as a forward and would have been able to take a McCarthy if Frawley played.
Litherland needs to play more but I believe Whitecross will push ahead of our youth and almost be best 22 again.
The depth to come in on a needs basis. Expecting around 10 games on average for the ones listed above.
Maybe re-sign Lake for Hawkins, Tippett etc.
Need to rookie a mature ruck if Hale retires. Any ideas?
Take two live picks around 25-40 into a weak ND with Heatherley being promoted.
I'd probably go after Aish to add to our young mids coming through. If Brisbane are still interested I'd do Aish and their 3rd for our 1st and Suckling.

Rate Matt Crouch. I think as a contested ball accumulator, disposal can definitely improve with more training and experience. A bit like Joey Kennedy. Disposal wasn't great and has improved it over the years, but is a contested ball monster. Sometimes you just need to get your hands on the ball. I think he would be a good get to work with.

Seriously man- you're not understanding the point. I AGREE with you that we need to focus on getting star quality players. Can you put that to the side for a sec? We all agree with you- it isn't just your view.

But that isn't how list management works. You don't focus solely on one single thing. You have many things on the boil that have the prospect of enhancing the quality of your list in different areas. But primarily- you have a list model and you work to fill the gaps. You need to do things simultaneously so as to try not to leave yourself short in any one area. You understand that you can trade for someone like Bennell and Crouch? Getting one does not mean you can't go for the other. Not only are they completely different players, they are on different ends of the price spectrum.
Crouch isn't a depth player. He adds to the depth of the overall list. But as i said- he is capable of playing a lot of senior football.

And for what its worth- NO SH#T- I KNOW WE NEED TO REPLACE THOSE PLAYERS. far out. But we also need to develop the entirety of our list concurrenty with searching for those players. Simpkin will be gone. Suckling and whitecross uncertain whether they will be around. Woody did his knee. Not every trade or signing is going to be about getting bennell or a star quality player. There are other things to discuss pertinent to our future.

If Matt crouch is okay to play on 250k then he's welcome. If not, well, no need for another B grader anyway. Seriously people, how on earth do we go from needing speedy inside mids like Dangerfield, Bennell, Treloar to 'scroungy spuds!'??

something tells me tyhawk missed the point.

I think we need to be a bit more realistic in who we can and more importantly are, going to get in.

We have generally gone with a sell high, buy low policy and looked for value rather than go for high-priced superstars in their prime or absolutely elite young talent.

So going by that Bennell would be the perfect fit. Despite people wishes, we just dont have the currency pick wise to chase the likes of O'Meara and it could only be done by trading out a Gunston or similar.

This idea that we can grab sure-fire young A-grade mids for some late first rounders and some good players is dreaming.

There is a lot of talk of an aging list. Players like Mitchell, Hodge and Burgoyne constantly come up. stop for a moment and consider that they are still wrecking havoc to so called young guns. Hodge for example wiped the floor with Fyfe earlier in the year. On Friday night he went head to head with Dangerfield, on occasions and did the job on him too. Look at Harvey, 30-32 year olds are not 'old' anymore. Clarko has already realised this and will get every bit of juice out of his guns as he can for as long as he can. The other clubs will take time to work this out. I bet Hodge, Mitchell and Burgoyne plays at least another 2 seasons if not three. They look primed, hungry and fit as ever. So don't be so concerned. All these things that you are pointing out are taken care of by fulltime employees of the Hawthorn Football club who are very good at what they do, if not the very best at it. There is not need to panic! We have a bunch of young guns in the wings. Have some faith. Nobody wanted Mitchell and look at how this club found him. True we have had some misses too but way more wins. I wish we can get a Dangerfield but I am not concerned if we don't because whomever comes in will likely become a gun for this great club.

I wonder if some players seeking a new club and success look at HFC despite the success and think "geez been up for a while surely can't keep going so will look at others on an upward curve" . Or if recruiter use this kind of thought to persuade players to not consider HFC !!

Yeah not sure I agree with this logic.

Hird won a B&F from memory in his final year.

These guys might still be playing well now but history has shown they either want to retire on top or their bodies give up very quickly.

Burgers, Hodge and Mitch will all be finished in the next 24 months, likely one or maybe two in the next 12.

We need to start finding replacements now and I agree with the sentiment we need at least one A Grade centre square mid to be added to our list.
