Still, I listed his combine scores because they are pure statistics instead of personal opinion, so it's easier to show where he excels, but I do get what you're saying.

Trouble with the combine scores is that they only release some of the scores in some of the disciplines and they are the purely athletic and skill tests.

What we never get to find out is who tested well in the psychomotor skills and the hand eye coordination test. Inside mids need quick reaction time and elite reflexes. By way of example back when Priddis was tested at the draft camp he excelled at eye hand reaction time tests.
Its an area where the Indigenous score off the charts and are in a completely different league to the non indigenous kids.

Players can have great athletic traits, example Ash Smith great sprint times and an athlete on the track , he ran 10.98 for the 100, but it all meant Jack Shit because he was slow in the mind and his decision making was average at best.
Conversely someone like our Sam Mitchell ( sound good saying that :) ) may be slow by foot but his reaction time and thinking skills are super quick..... elite actually.

The other facet of assessing talent is the interview process and kids can raise or completely blow their ratings based on the back of a good or bad interview.

So whilst the Combine Scores are an indicator they are by no means the be all and end all.

Good on SPP for getting the only perfect goal shooting score ( 30/30 ) but I don't for one minute think he is the best shot at goals from this cohort, so thats where there is massive distortion based on a scant body of data.

Not having a go at you CM9000 more just pointing out some shortfalls in the whole combine assessment and reporting process.
They only ever report the top 10 performers in most tests.
Consequently we miss hearing about some kid who hypothetically ranked 13th in every discipline and we never hear about that.
I would venture to say that top 13 in every discipline is pretty impressive ..... but we would never know if it occurred, given the current system.

If Taranto slides grab him.
Scrimshaw i dont rate at all.
So Shai or SPP good thing both have excellent endurance.
Logue only want as a mid, though his hands worry me a bit.

I thought his hands are a strength going by the vid

Moves a tad like Jordan Lewis but could become more a contested mid.

He is a lot taller but has played midfield and KPD. I could see him as a defensive winger

Would rather Taranto if he is still there at 12 but I think Logue will be there at our pick and Taranto wont be

Watched the Taranto vid and noted a couple of things you don't see in highlight vids.

Only concentrated on footy last two years (was elite basketballer) and had his first proper preseason this year, which links nicely to his improved last form. Think he will be an absolute stud and would give my left nut for him to be there at 12.

Elite basketballer you say

Based on more than Pendlebury (and Brogan)
Basketballers make awesome inside mids.

It's really something clubs should be doing more of. The ball movement, peripheral vision, quick hands and decision making involved in playing basketball translated perfectly into the skill set for inside midfielders.

You're completely right, while it is easier to make conclusions based of the scores, it's better to be thorough then wrong.

Thanks for the explanation Monocle, really appreciate how indepth you went.

Watching the afl players that are known basketballers, they all seem to have really good decision making and skills under pressure in contested situations. It's stated they have they generally have that extra second over their opponent. Dribbling the ball up the court with a defender always right in your grill ie they're generally always under pressure focusing on their skills and looking to make the pass/drive/shot.

So given what was said about us not looking at mids necessarily, will the melts be unbearable when we pick Logue at 12?

it depends, some rekon that he could become a bigger bodied inside mid.
Gotta say his disposal skills, balance and marking look very good from that WA v Allies vid.

Interesting times ahead

what type of player is jarrod berry like? i have seen a bit of love for him. If my memory serves me correct, he was one of the top rated kids early on.

English is the one who would bring the melts

I'm personally really not fussed who we take at this stage, I'm happy with best available. Should that happen to be English, so be it.

That being said the drawback to recruiting projects is that if they aren't gifted a ton of games in their first contract (before they're ready) they will probably up and leave.
