List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

This is shaping as another draft where we don't really have an indication on who we will pick - like Duggan. Was happy with that analysis and choice by the club and expect to be pleased with this one.

Yeah, we're in an awkward position. We've invested so heavily in mids in recent years (during trade week and at the draft) we're now short of developing KPP/ruck.

I can see us going for KPP/ruck with Pick 12 but by Jebus do we need Yeo, Jetta and Redden to lift, as well as continual improvement from Sheed, Karpany, Duggan, Nelson, Partington and Cole. That's a lot of midfield-types we've brought in over the last 3 years.
Unfortunately there are question marks over half of them as whether they can be midfielders at the top level though. Will be super interesting to see how Nelson and Cole go as midfielders in 2017, but I would really like to use 12 on an on-baller.

Vozzo quoted as saying we won't necessarily take a mid with pick 12 but will go with best available

I assume this means that English(ruck), Marshall (KPF), or Logue (KPD) all come into the discussion should they still be in the board

Ignore the Petrie headline, the discussion re pick 12 is at the end of the article

My honest belief is that comment means Shai Bolton is our target.
I know the club has been having numerous discussions with him.

If things went perfectly for us

Pick 12 : dockers go pommy and the first hyphen slides to us
Pick 34 : unfounded disposal concerns see the other hyphen pepper shaking at west coast
Pick 54 : the whizz from gero comes to match sampi's MOTY
Pick 106 : clear as mud

Rookies - not drew's son and the leather eating ruck that looks good for a win
If this happens I'd say it will be our best draft since 2001

It'll be interesting to see where Scheer goes with it being an even draft. If no-one bids before pick 10, GC don't have any later picks to match so they'll have to at least use pick 10 if they want him. Maybe they're happy to do that but I'd be looking to exploit academy kids as much as I could in their situation.
Could they still take him and go into deficit next year?

If we take a ****ing ruckman at pick 12 I will lose my shit.

Trade period is now closed but I think it would be great if it re-opened on Draft Night so that teams are able to
a) finish deals that couldn't be done before as the draft was too much of an unknown
b) allow clubs to specifically target certain players that they want at the draft
c) would require the draft to be brought forward so that it doesn't interfere with the start of clubs pre-season

SPP for the win. He won't last until our second unfortunately and i can't see why we'd pass up on a big bodied, aggressive, line breaking midfielder.

If Scrimshaw slides however we should drop whatever it is we're doing and draft that sumbitch.

Wouldn't complain if we reached for Ryan with our 2nd and Jake with our 3rd.

Like the NFL - I can see the value in trading on draft day. Would make much better viewing and be more meaningful. We would be able to see the manoeuvring for specific players.

I am a big SPP fan but looking into Bolton i think he would compliment our squad more so than SPP.

Bolton looks like that player we lack and that is a midfielder who can actually be rotated into the forward line and kick goals. From what i have read he has classy skills and good footy sense which is what we need. Even though he is lightly built he could easily start off in the forward line and work his way up to play midfield full time. With SPP it might be hard early on to fit him in with Priddis, Mitchell, Sheed and Shuey all playing that extractor role in the centre.

IF we could get Bolton and SPP we will go a long way to fixing our midfield issues!

TBH, English is up there because of his veratility and agility (i.e. can play fwd) but I'm not a big fan of his. I think Marshall is a talent, and Logue looks like he's tough and athletic, but probably too high for a KPD.

SPP can play on the HF

The thoughts on Logue are that he can be a big bodied midfielder. Played at the back end of this year at Swans as a mid and as such and went OK. Smashed the combine on the runs tests and hence his move up the board. If just a KPD, agree that way too early but will only be taken here is seen as a mid. Will be an interesting selection.

This is why the club should of moved heaven and earth to get another pick around 20

Could you imagine if we got SPP, Bolton, Ryan & Waterman
What - 4 forwards who take take a share in the midfield and not genuine mids! Not for me.

I however did want another pick like you suggested and would have ensured we had a tough inside midfielder like Brodie or a later pick like Clark.

Still pissed.

Neither Bolton or SPP seem to be worth pick 12, but neither will be around at our second pick.

Having only seen videos and descriptions of him on BF, I really really don't like the sound of Bolton with our first pick. Someone who struggles to impact the contest, is lightly built, and needs to work on their defensive pressure is really not what we need right now. We already have Jetta for that.

SSP & Bolton will both develop into full time mids

SSP average 22 poss and 1 goal in colts before moving into League
SPP did jump up to league very well at the end.

At the 2 U18 games I saw, Bolton looked great roving to a winning Goddard. He was surrounded by the likes of Fisher and Guelfi and played the outside mid role. I cannot see his light frame making it at AFL level as an inside mid and that is where we are presently short and where the GWS and Doggies excel at.

swannies or Underdog did Logue play midfield in that round 23 reserves game? How did he look? Reports make it sound like he played ruck...

His beep and 3km trial numbers indicate really good endurance, while his repeat sprints and standing vertical would indicate the explosiveness. Definitely a great athlete, not sure about a great midfield prospect though.
