Hypothetical?

McEvoy + Barlow + Pick 14 + Chris Mayne compo (likely pick 22) to Gold Coast = O'Meara to Hawthorn, Hill to Fremantle
Gold Coast to send pick 8, 14, 21 and 22 to Brisbane for Rockliff and Hanley

Gold Coast
In: Pick 6, McEvoy, Barlow, Hanley, Rockliff = midfield sorted
Out, Prestia, O'Meara, pick 8, 14, 21, 22 = still leaves them with picks 4, 6, 24, 27 in a deep draft

Hawthorn
In: O'Meara, pick 28 = sees us land O'Meara and Mitchell (via 2017 first pick) and keeps us in a deep draft with pick 28 and 32
Out: Hill, McEvoy, pick 14, Hill compo on-traded

Brisbane
In: Picks 8, 14, 21, 22 = slate clean and goes into a deep draft with picks 2, 8, 20, 21, 22 and the Fagan era begins
Out: Rockliff, Hanley

If I'm trading, I'm asking if Sydney want draft picks for next year for academy purposes. and when trading players out, asking for value plus any picks this year or next year (eg Hill to Freo they have 22 (compo) 39, 57, 75, 93 this year and probably slightly later picks in each rounds of the 2018 draft

On top of that we have pick 14 this year, plus 32, 50, 68, 86, 104 in latter rounds, and we'll have something similar next year.

Those picks aren't often used because of list size but they can be hoovered up for father son and Academy picks. to satisfy us (for ben jarman) and sydney (exchange for Tom Mitchell), to be used next year on academy kids

pick 22 has been discussed its worth 845 which is worth less than 32, 50 and 68 = 916
apparently picks beyond 73 have no points value, but you can say trade 75 and 92 for something under 73 if a team needs an extra pick for a specific reason

You've included some outs like pick 14 for Gold Coast. They traded it in than out again. no result let me update

Posted something similar earlier but refined

HAW: Hill, TOB, Litherland, 14 for JOM, 45

POR: Broadbent, 45 for TOB, 27.
FRE: 3, Barlow for 6, Hill, Litherland.
GCS: 6, JOM, 27 for 3, 14, Broadbent, Barlow.

POR: Get back into the second round of the draft. Lose Broadbent but have quite a bit of depth down back with Trengrove playing back again, Jonas and Hombsch coming back, and Bonner looking to play. Get TOB to replace Schulz up forward. Don't have a permanent tall forward other than Dixon on the list with Butcher and Schulz cut. TOB will look better next to a power forward - taking third forward a lot of the time with Ryder, Westhoff going through next to Dixon.

FRE: Probably targeting SPS or Tim English. GCS would promise not to take either which would leave at least one available at 6 (probably both). So probably lose nothing but gain Hill. Litherland for Barlow as Litherland is from WA, would have played with Sam Collins, and seems like a good fit as a lockdown defender to release their other ball users. Litherland could win a Norm Smith (can't believe JJ won one by just bombing the ball forward). Will retain the Mayne compo pick which they could use to in a trade with GWS: 22+39 for 16+McCarthy.

GCS: Moving up from 6 to 3 would move their pick above a Bowes bid. So, it's like getting a top 5 pick with the amount of picks GCS have. Added to that is mid-late first rounder. That seems like a fair swap (top 5 plus a mid-late first rounder which is pretty much asking price). Broadbent and Barlow for 27 is a steal as I doubt POR move Broadbent for just 27. Would still have 8, 14, 21, 22, 24 to trade for other mature players and match academy bids.

If Breust goes as an FA next year we'll get a 1st round comp pick anyway.
Correction. If Bruest left any other team they would get a first round compo pick.

We'll be lucky to get a fourth rounder, because we're Hawthorn.

We got a band 1for Buddy. We just gotta stop winning flags.

Or not.

Band 2 will be pick 19 anyway.

Yeah, I was just being cynical. Mind you if the AFL start throwing around Priority picks again, it will be a pick in the 20's. You can bet after the Lions just got one, the Essendopes will be demanding one after the end of next season.

True, but what can you do ?

You get nowhere swimming upstream, and pushing Bruest out if he wants to stay and then explore free agency, while Poppy can make some well-deserved cash just isn't good business.

Our biggest strength is our people management and our ability to be fluid while getting what we want and also trying keeping everyone happy.

We're insanely good at it.
