If you listened to Craig Cameron on Trade Radio you would take away-

* Will Hoskin-Elliott probably going to Collingwood maybe for their 2nd rounder
* Marchbank most likely going for Carlton's pick 5. Deal will involve us giving a further pick but will not be pick 7.
* We are interested in potentially trading up if we secure pick 5 and potentially getting pick 1 but realistic Essendon probably holds it.
*Patfull staying is in his hands
*Steele could still stay
*We aren't looking to bolster squad with senior players
*We are happy with defensive stock
*We are open to trading Jarrod Pickett but no bites from anyone yet.
The Pickett situation interesting, I'd prefer he stayed but I thought the WA clubs would show interest. They seem very aware of him on their boards and his junior record. Does it indicate his manager is rebuffing calls?

For me it indicates there is substance in the view that his attitude is not professional, something which Captain has spruiked here.

With the foot injury and the fact he may be a further 12 months away perhaps the thought is they can get him for a free throw end of next year?

Some fall from grace...

The thing about Lobb re-signing is that it not only puts to bed the "he's homesick" rubbish, but it also kills off the "he's open to a move back to WA" line we've been hearing as well. If he was either, he would have a) asked for a trade straight up, or b) just seen out his contract next year and made a decision then.

In signing an extension for another two years beyond his contracted year next year, he has well and truly put to bed both arguments.

Sadly true

yep, with the 7 likely to be McCarthy, Barrett, Hoskin-Elliott, Marchbank, Stewart, Steele, McKenna, and 8 if Patfull decides to call it a day.
Hmm all we were thinking of losing.

Dog act by the AFL changing the rules now for next season.

McCarthy, Marchbank & WHE are the only ones going for sure.
Now Lobb has resigned I expect 1 of Simpson or Downie to be traded, I like to keep downie.
Stewart has been offered another year if he wants it.
McKenna & Barrett will probably be steakknives in a deal.
Would like to keep Steele and he is 50/50 ATM
Patfull is solid but was starting to look realy slow towards the end of the season

I reckon there is one more not mentioned who will move.. not sure who at this point

Yep. Im worried about one coming from left field.
Especially with a ton of delistings going through the league.

Interesting to see Lobb was quick on the up take to get an extension done once the season was over
On the first day back at work after the Western Bulldogs won the flag, Rory Lobb contacted his manager and told him to start talking to the Giants about a new contract. He wanted to stay beyond next year's contract. By that evening he had agreed terms and put pen to paper. It was breathlessly announced on Tuesday morning.

Also
The Eagles would like to pick up Jarrod Pickett from the Giants but have yet to make the space they need.

We also need to recruit at least three for next year don't we? i think we'll put players out for trade and then de-list if no offers. Some might come back as rookies instead.

The other thing is what are we doing with Sam Reid?

Its certainly thrown a cat amongst the pigeon. About to be the most pyscho trade period yet. Because we actually do need to get rid of players.

No worries if Reid stays on the rookie list.

One of the impacts of a reduced list size on top of the academy rule changes will be the number of picks we can take to the draft. If we do trade out 7 guys though, I guess we'll have a bit of scope to jiggle the picks, especially if we trade for a couple of future picks. Although AFL did supposedly say that they would account for future picks taken last year, which accounts for 3 of ours of course. Nice of the AFL to make that announcement clearly to the public!

No reason he shouldn't remain on the rookie list with Lloyd. They are both mature age back up plans

Pickett to west coast makes sense as their need for a quality small forward has been well known for years. Lecras is on the way out and hill plays more as a flanker. Would do Pickett for west coast 2017 second rounder

Also he probably got a (well deserved) pay rise, good for him he can get paid more from next year rather than waiting for his current contract to expire.

We've currently got nine guys uncontracted (Steele, Simpson, Barrett, Finlayson, Marchbank, Stewart, Mohr, McKenna and Downie) plus it seems to be a fair bet that WHE, McCarthy and maybe Pickett and Patfull won't be with us next year, with A. Kennedy, Palmer and Ahern more distant bets to depart looking at 2017 contractees who aren't best 22.

While we need to get rid of seven to get to 38, accounting for the three mandatory draft picks, we could easily get rid of six to eight of the uncontracted players (Steele, Stewart and one ruck being retained), WHE and McCarthy to take our five or six top rated academy players plus one early pick.

Breust is probably the main one.
Oh just maybe one player. Edit Sad face :(
Never. Nobody wants to play for us. All they ever want to do is leave. You will understand this the longer you hang around. You need to learn the phrase "mass exodus" if you want to play this game.
I'll remember GWS'S trade period is now called mass exodus trade radio.
Dunno if anyone has been keeping up with Jarrad Haynes' dreams but that's always a possibility.... :p
You better check jarrads bucket list before he dies to see how many sports he has left to do, you might see him entering the world hotdog championship competition to try beat joey chestnutt. Coming into this season I thought our weakest link was our forward line. Improvement from Greene, Lobb and Patton means this is now a strength.

Now if we have a weak point I think it is our midfield. Certainly not weak in the context of the league overall, but against the very best midfields in close finals we might be at a small deficit. The Dogs did have a significant inside 50 edge over us.

We have a very deep and reliable bunch from Ward downwards, and they are getting better every year. But arguably we don't (yet) have that one midfielder at the level of a Bontempelli or Hodge or Ablett or McLeod or Judd.

With that in mind, I think it makes sense to go all out for whomever in the draft has the best chance of becoming that player.

Would be a stretch to say this is a "need", but I reckon is is the area we would get the most benefit from investing our draft resources.

Happy to reinforce all other areas with academy picks as they come up.

So question- I'm hearing we need to reduce he list size to 38 but what about salary cap? Are we in line with everyone else or are we still on a higher pay packet?
