Interesting article from a while ago, about how date of birth impacts likelihood to be drafted - but not necessarily likelihood to be a success

A more thorough analysis could probably be done.

I wouldn't be surprised if our academy graduates underperform their draft pick position on average, especially those with good coaching from an early age.

We could easily end up taking a player who looks a "smart footballer" compared to their peers, when really they have had access to better coaching.

Don't get me wrong the academies I'm sure are a net positive.

Just saying we should be cautious about matching bids if they come quite early, when there might be other players still on the board with a higher ceiling but less well rounded due to coaching.

Harry Perryman today on SEN - https://audioboom.com/posts/5312023-harry-perryman-on-afternoons

What a bloody legend! As country as they come and very likeable. Will end up a cult hero at the club.

I heard that interview.

Absolutely top bloke and you're right.......a country boy who has that marvellous ability to be totally genuine and at the same time unintentionally hilarious.

Listening to him, haven't had as many good belly laughs for a long time.

And I wouldn't be at all concerned about him being a Pies supporter.

Blokes like him are reliably loyal once you have them in your camp.

Part of me thinking just Dodoro playing his usual games

But...

It's weird to see the one you're not picking last.

I'd think it makes more sense to see the one you're not picking last - you tell the guy you're picking first, and then tell the other option(s) that they aren't your pick. You don't want it leaking and your first choice finding out secondhand.

But on the otherhand they are not obliged to tell the ones they are not picking anything, whereas they will definitely tell the one they are selecting.

The longer the time the more chance a family member says something.

That all said the talk is really strong its McGrath for them and Taranto for us.

Where is the talk that we will select Taranto?

Listening to Mark Evans this morning the draft penalties still very much in play.

Found another journo to hate in Francis Leach who led Evans by saying "The draft is this Friday so I assume they are going to pick up a penalty that will impact them this year..."

Typical Group 1 flog obviously trying to do do anything he can to survive the great SEN purge. His boofheaded illiterate co-host Schwarz has reinvented himself as a red necked GWS hater to curry favour with the VFL knobs and cling onto his job.

What's the point of trading up if we're going to pick Taranto, when the clear no. 1&2 are McCluggage and McGrath. If we really wanted Taranto, could have stayed at 3 and still got him.

I think that if we do go with Taranto, it may have been a change in mind post-trade period.

Because there is still a chance to get McGrath, nobody knows what will happen come draft night. Heard whispers that HMC more of a flight risk and Taranto is not.
