AFL DRAFT WHISPERS | The top 12 players seem to be firming at this stage with Essendon seemingly settled on Sandringham’s Andrew McGrath. He is set to be one of FIVE Sandringham Dragons selected in the top 12 with Tim Taranto (2 – GWS), Will Setterfield (5 – GWS), Jack Scrimshaw (Carlton or Fremantle) and Ollie Florent (12 – North Melbourne).

Despite earlier reports of Essendon considering bidding on Setterfield, it appears Carlton might be the club to do so at pick five, with the Giants matching.
The Blues will then weigh up between Scrimshaw and West Australian Sam Petrevski-Seton. Many pundits believe the Blues will choose the latter, but rumours building that they will elect to go for the versatile Scrimshaw, leaving Petrevski-Seton to fall to Fremantle at pick seven.

Gold Coast seem set on drafting West Australian defender Griffin Logue with pick six regardless of the Blues’ decision, but the pick nine is still up for debate. Some believe it could be Jy Simpkin however Will Hayward has also been in the conversation. It is believed Simpkin or slider Will Brodie are the more likely options with Sydney bidding on Jack Bowes at 10. The Swans look set to pounce on Brodie once the Suns match with Ollie Florent constantly linked to North Melbourne.

West Coast are the key players in the draft with not much noise regarding their pick 13. The rumour going around that they met Cedric Cox on Saturday is true, however he will drift to the end of the first round with the Bulldogs and Essendon among a few clubs that are keen on the exciting midfielder.

Ruckman Tim English appears set to do a “Brodie Grundy” and will slip into the 20s with the Bulldogs potentially sensing he could reach their second pick despite some talk he would go at their first round selection.

Isaac Cumming received a late invitation to the National AFL Draft and the last person to do so was Nakia Cockatoo when Geelong shocked the footy world taking him at 10 despite little exposed form. Adelaide and Port Adelaide are the two clubs rumoured to have been circling the speedy midfielder.

Rumours about Todd Marshall to Port Adelaide continue to build despite comments from the club they would target midfielders. Daniel Venables and Alex Witherden are other players around the mark.

Brisbane look likely to add grunt to their midfield with the inclusion of Jack Graham to their midfield with both Cal Twomey and Brett Anderson’s reporting that the South Australian captain is headed for the Gabba.

North Melbourne is likely to test the Giants bidding on Harrison Macreadie with one of the Roos’ picks in the 30s. #AFLDraft

Whomever wrote this article has completely forgotten about the existence of McCluggage when determining their top ten which throws out a lot of their other speculations (in particular Taranto at 2).

At the end of the day nobody really knows what's going to happen. The recruitment teams of each club have some idea about who they are going to take, but even they are at the mercy of the clubs before them. We just need to take best available, whoever that may be. The only club who knows exactly who they will take is Essendon IMO with pick #1.

I think it just assumes McCluggage and Ainsworth will go 3 and 4 (or 4 and 3) if McGrath goes 1. Thus the intrigue begins at Carlton's pick.

English?

Berry comes across as a great kid but I'd have thought he lacks any weapons or an assured AFL role he can excel in to justify taking him at 11. Solid results but bit of a vanilla footballer? Reminds me of the Selwood twins.

That said we draft him and I'll probably see the next Wayne Schwass in his highlights.

Simply a best available pick. Not as sold on Preuss being the future as many here. Actually think they could form a nice double act with such different strengths and styles.

Doubt many will agree with me on selecting English, thats ok, i still think the Grundy slide was a mistake by many clubs too.

Honestly think English won't make it at AFL level. Not a good enough ruckman and if he bulks up enough to be effective in that role he'll lose the attributes that set him apart at this stage. No way we even consider him imo, reckon Bulldogs will taken him as they can afford to take the risk

Irrespective of whether Preuss is the future, it's way too high a price to pay for a ruckman in our situation. In my opinion, there are maybe half a dozen game-changing ruckman, and top teams often don't have them (Dogs this year, Hawthorn recently, Sydney, etc). Solid ruckman are easily traded in or developed later if need be.

Elite endurance, good pace and agility, clean by hand and foot, 191cms. Sounds to me like exactly what we need in our midfield

His disposal count seems to generally be mid-teens. That might be because of role but with his size if he had genuine midfield accumulation ability you'd think it might've been evidenced more. Hope it's not a Vickers-Willis mentality in 'hoping' he might be a mid if we take him.

Refer to the USA Election thread.

I am referring to her. Sarcastically, but yes I am referring to her.
