Anyone else notice the decisions by Cyril to not bend down and pick up two ground balls - and take a risk of kicking them off the ground? He executed them brilliantly and scored goals with both - but they looked really risky choices at the time.

I was wondering if we will see more of this from Cyril to protect his hamstrings? Maybe it is something he has been advised to do by the Hawks coaches?

If you're protecting your hamstrings by not picking up the ball than something is seriously wrong. He's just flashy and I bet the coach wouldn't have been happy with it. There was one where he wouldn't have even had to bend over, was not close to being tackled and still chose the risky option.

They'll be going flat out for Hurley now.

Not sure how old you are, but there used to be a cartoon where a big dog used to stroll around and a little dog used to follow it around lapping up everything it said. I think this an apt description for these 2.
More gravy

Mick reckons "good guy" Rance should have been let off for elbowing Watts.

But Malthouse has labelled the ban “ludicrous” and believes “model citizen” Rance should have been afforded some leniency due to his standing in the game and good character.

Malthouse suggested that the likes of Rance, a two-time All-Australian and reigning Richmond best and fairest winner, should be offered no penalty on the proviso that such an act doesn’t happen again.

“I might be a little bit different here,” he said.

“You’d look at that and be very selective and very cautious ... I know people will say there’s no consistency, but it does the right thing for the game.

“We’ve got an All-Australian centre half back. OK, you can’t be lenient on an all-star, but the fact is he’s a model citizen. It’s out of character. It’d be nothing for the football operations manager to ring him up and say ‘Rancey, we can’t take this again. If there’s anything like that again I’m going to give you four weeks. You’ve had your first chance’.”

Someones putting his rod in the water for the Tiges coaching job.

I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as what it's been made out to be. But I understand that I'm in the minority. But what Mick is suggesting is the absolute dumbest thing I've heard in football. If you do it again it'll be worth 4 weeks, so is definitely suspension worthy, but because you're a top bloke, I'll just give you a private verbal warning this time. Thank Christ the AFL hasn't set this muppet up in a position of influence.

Hodge comes to mind.

Exactly right. Smacks of VIC favortism as long as long as you are perceived as a good person. I'm sure that dickhead who drove unlicensed with 4 children unbuckled in the back seat had plenty of people saying he was a good guy too.

Are they trying to be Port?

I hope not one Port in the Comp is more than enough.

It would be funny though, all players on massive long term deals, Karl Stefanovic as President, TV deal with India and they could choose a Johnny Diesel & The injectors song (Cry in Shame Maybe) they could all sing and wave there scarves above there heads to before each game.

As a society we seem to have this belief that for someone to do something stupid there had to be form in the past to prove that they really weren't the 'good' person we all believed up to that point. Look at all the media stories about killers and what was in their past that proved they were going to be a murderer. We want an explanation because we don't want to accept that that bad decision maker could be us in the future. Sorry, people do stupid things and make bad decisions all the time. That's just people. Because they have been 'good' previously does not mean that we forgive them for a later bad decision with no punishment. They need to face up to their responsibilities for that decision and accept the just punishment, if required.

In respect to Rance in this type of situation, he has form for getting angry and frustrated and lashing out at opponents, so his past character shows that him doing a coward hit isn't out of the realm of possibility.

The amount of commentators who think this wasn't a bad thing are why people think it is okay to lash out at others when frustrated. That's the way they played the game and it was a 'tough' game then. It's still a tough game now, it's just we don't accept people being idiots and not respecting others.

5years for Hooker at 27 years old after a year off - he's got his pension plan and a proposed legal settlement coming that'll set him up for life - HUGE risk for a a good average player but not elite

This could be Cloke mk2 who once he has his money ....the drive disappears

Do Essendon think they'll contend in next 3 years (ha ha)

Essendon could have had pick 2 on this years draft had it ...as it should have traded Hooker - Arrogance personified

I agree

Hooker has had 1 high quality year over the course of his career and you take this year out he doesn't even come close in demanding a 5 year contract

Unbelievable
