I agree

Hooker has had 1 high quality year over the course of his career and you take this year out he doesn't even come close in demanding a 5 year contract

Unbelievable
PR move as much as anything you'd think. Can't be losing a bunch of players who got suspended, make it look like they think they were wronged by the Bombers.

You could be right.....

IMO anyone who can't kick a football shouldn't be getting 5 years

With a number of coaches under scrutiny at the moment, it made me wonder if we'll ever (now or in the future) see a coach sacrificially step aside without being pushed?

Or will it always be the case that the coach will optimistically believe they'll be able to comeback from anything, and won't budge until their tapped on the shoulder?

5years for Hooker at 27 years old after a year off - he's got his pension plan and a proposed legal settlement coming that'll set him up for life - HUGE risk for a a good average player but not elite

This could be Cloke mk2 who once he has his money ....the drive disappears

Do Essendon think they'll contend in next 3 years (ha ha)

Essendon could have had pick 2 on this years draft had it ...as it should have traded Hooker - Arrogance personified

My theory is that Fremantle are putting all their eggs in the Hogan and McCarthy basket at seasons end. Both are rumoured heavily to be at Freo next year.

You think "turd burglar" is insensitive not hateful? Really?
Obviously means something different to what I always thought it meant. I understood it to mean someone who accidentally walks in on someone else, while they're sitting on the toilet. Hence why you always knock on the door, before entering the smallest room in the house. No sexual connotations of any description.

I thought it referred to a dog that eats its own poo

I think most will wait to be sacked so they get a payout of their contract. Especially if you've just been extended like Dimma and Ken. Few get another chance so need to maximize their return

Having said that, there'll be one who steps aside one day. Just don't know who

Roos stepped aside, in favour of Longmire, when he left Sydney. He's supposed to be doing the same, in favour of Goodwin, when he leaves Melbourne at the end of this year. Can't think of too many others who have gone voluntarily (and Lyons defecting from St Kilda to Freo doesn't count).

Craigy always said he'd just go when the time came. He did didn't he?

Strangely enough I think Ken might be one who'd step aside before he's pushed

Back in the day we had Shaw and Blight both resign from us.

I'm sure Shaw jumped before he was pushed, and Blighty wasn't sticking around when the side started losing.

Craigy was also on staff thanks to his mate Trigg. Probably a golden handshake there too.

Interestingly I think Bolton is on staff at Carlton too.

Shaw's position was untenable. Whether he jumped or was pushed, it wasn't exactly a coach leaving while the club still wanted him to stay.

Blight's situation was very different. The club would have loved him to stay on, but he was clearly burned out.

Anyone else notice the decisions by Cyril to not bend down and pick up two ground balls - and take a risk of kicking them off the ground? He executed them brilliantly and scored goals with both - but they looked really risky choices at the time.

I was wondering if we will see more of this from Cyril to protect his hamstrings? Maybe it is something he has been advised to do by the Hawks coaches?
That he knows he can get away with kicking in danger I'm sure he will continue.

That's the one with the cat isn't it?

You want these guys!

I'm recently back watching WB cartoons on weekends due to an early rising 3yo, to find that Shane bloody Crawford hosts it!
I think it's the one where Sylvester drinks the Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde potion and only the bulldog sees him when he's Mr Hyde, the little dog only sees Sylvester as normal.

Cale Hooker has resigned for 5 years at Essendon. Another KPP Fremantle fails to get
One bad decision at Essendon after another. Unless you are a 25yo superstar, 5 years is just irresponsible list management in the best case scenario, more so to a guy who has been runbed out for a year and could come back so far off the pace its not funny.

Plus its Cale Hooker! Hooker. FFS.

When i was doing my apprenticeship many years ago (in the 80's) a turd burglar was an "affectionate" term used to describe plumbers.

Not sure when it morphed into a homophobic comment, it was originally used for plumbers as us sparkies were called wire jerkers.

You younger generation changing the meaning of words, I also liked been gay back in the day - now my grandkids look at me strangely when i tell them i am feeling gay.
