Finally! I spent the day reading the CAS court document and it baffles me how the doping regime even got that far. Essendon had players hiding the injections from the club doc, from their own personal doctors, and not reporting them on their drug testing forms. I can't understand how no players would question that? The evidence in there - a lot of it from the players own mouths - is absolutely damning.

It's disappointing the AFL's stance on it though. They're doing everything in the power to make this as easy on the club as possible, but the club has never been punished for doping. In fact, when they were done for governance, Essendon ensured the AFL took everything referencing drugs out of the documents. I'd have preferred the AFL to actually stick to their anti-doping code and use this:
Did they shutdown the Airport whilst you got on with reading the CAS Report ? ha ha . Where did you access the report as I heard it wasn't on their Website yet.

Yep. The people of Australia can wait, I have reading to do.

This is a really good read. What they did at Essendon... is just insane. And the way the players went along with it is even more insane.

See if I were Tanner, I'd slam the previous admin, accept the decision and move on. Absolutely slam the likes of Hird and even the AFL for stringing it out this long.

He's aged like 100 years!

I haven't been able to find it but I have read something that said players suspended for banned substances can't be paid by the club but like I said, I haven't found it again.
22.4 Withholding of Financial Support during Ineligibility In addition for any Anti-Doping Rule Violation not involving a reduced sanction as described in clause 17.4 or 17.5, some or all sport-related financial support or other sport related financial support or other sport related benefits received such Player will be withheld by the AFL, AFL Club and governments.

Thank you :)
I interpreted that to mean they can't be paid, what do you make of it?

Woosha would be absolutely laughing.

Getting paid top coin and not having to achieve anything.
If he signed on at Adelaide then well, he might have to show something ;)
I would take the job with paid for doing nothing, I know he is eagle but that what I called take care of yourself first.

Money I'm sure they like but coaches are competitive beasts and actually want to achieve something with their teams. He'll almost zero chance of doing that at Essendon, probably take 5 years minimum to right the ship. Can anybody see him wanting/managing to stay around there that long?

If it was just about earning money there would be countless easier and less stressful jobs in footy the man could take instead.

Did he have an opportunity to coach Adelaide?
If he did and if you were a competitive beast, who would you chose.
A club that is in the mix, or a club that had a serious cloud above its head?

Can the banned Essendon players be paid?
Essendon has made a commitment to pay the 12 players remaining on its list, but the exact terms of this will be negotiated with the AFL Players Association. The AFLPA suggested on Tuesday it was keen to reach a financial settlement for the players, rather than engage in a court battle. A settlement would likely include compensation for the players to account for damages to their careers, as well as contractual commitments.

So Essendon won't pay the WAFL three.

Lawsuit!

See this is just confusing because it's 2 separate answers that should be 2 separate questions.

Will the banned players be paid their playing contracts? Yes (from what it says there)

Will the banned players receive other money from the EFC from loss of potential earnings, other sue-able reasons? The AFLPA is going for a settlement rather than suing the club.

The players will probably get paid their contracts (minus match payments) but anything above and beyond that will be either through courts or a settlement.
