If there is no more coaches or players out there for them associated with the scandal and especially if they get Crowley Essendon might even be my '2nd' team this year. Plus imagine the hilarity from the embarrassment to any team if they somehow manage to knock off. Someone like say a St Kilda.

so i assume this means they are not able to play at ANY level? as in professional or non professional?

Everyone at that club lost the plot but at the end of the day these guys are young husbands, brothers, sons, father's who have been through hell and back and now had the axe fall on life as they know it. Pretty bloody harsh because they ended up at a dodgy club with a dodgy coach and dodgy administrators. I feel seriously bad for them and a little empathy wouldn't go astray with some of you guys as well.

Couldn't agree more.

They aren't allowed to even train at the club until September.
that's ridiculous, should be able to play in the local Ama clubs where there is no drug testing needed, and no pay. not like the players will benefit, they'll lose income and have to use substandard facilities etc
it would be a welcome gee up for local clubs.

I guess the WADA code thinks that if you break the rules you wear the consequences.

There is a fair bit of drug testing needed in the WAAFA just while you bring it up, anyone found there would also be banned including WAFL and AFL match representation.

yeah true,
it is needed at some amateur level, as i've played against some extremely questionable players, but never done.

AFL is going to let the poor dears draft in 10 players plus upgrade all five rookies. Port Adelaide, St Kilda can upgrade rookies immediately as well.

Also going to look at Jobe's Brownlow..

It would all be the umpires fault. And somehow freos

Justice is finally served. Everyone knew the original tribunal letting them off was a complete sham.

Essendon and the AFL got what they wanted though - delay, delay, delay until half the players were retired/delisted or traded to other clubs so the impact could be spread out.

The poor old Essendon is rubbing a bit thin .And the AFL's stance that we need them to remain a strong club for the good of the comp is particularly galling.
The rest of the clubs will need to pick up the shortfall in their finances. The rest of the AFL digging them out of the hole they dug for them selves really piss's me off.

If you're going to strip Jobe of the Brownlow you have to do the same to his All Australian selection.

Couldn't agree more. EFC completely screwed the pooch and have wasted millions of AFL dollars - which we pay for in our "seat subsidies" and rich (e.g. financially stable) club tax and they're complaining about how hard done by they are.

I feel for the players, but EVERY sports person from high level amateur and up knows that they are ultimately responsible for what goes into their bodies.

I don't really care about people's views are on this, but one thing is certain.
This whole drama has gone on way too long.
The process is a complete joke

If Crowley and Saad were going to get bans for the substances they took then of course the Bombers playing group were going to cop a whack, on top of that there was no way WADA were going to let an entire club get away with doping. It's a shame that the club management strung the supporters along for so long with their bullshit.

Also more importantly I'm glad this happened during the off-season so I don't have to hear ****ing Tim Watson's sob stories.

The Saints would be pretty bitter at the moment, having paid so dearly for a player with a hefty contract.. Proceeds to bring heat onto the club within hours of being traded by incurring a strike on the elicit drugs policy... Only to then find out he won't even be playing in the 1st year of his contract.

FFS, just once why couldn't Hawthorn have traded for him..

Finally! I spent the day reading the CAS court document and it baffles me how the doping regime even got that far. Essendon had players hiding the injections from the club doc, from their own personal doctors, and not reporting them on their drug testing forms. I can't understand how no players would question that? The evidence in there - a lot of it from the players own mouths - is absolutely damning.

It's disappointing the AFL's stance on it though. They're doing everything in the power to make this as easy on the club as possible, but the club has never been punished for doping. In fact, when they were done for governance, Essendon ensured the AFL took everything referencing drugs out of the documents. I'd have preferred the AFL to actually stick to their anti-doping code and use this:
25. Consequences to Teams
Where more than one Player from a Club has been notified of a possible Anti-Doping Rule Violation in any one season, the Club shall be subject to Target Testing for the remainder of the season. If more than one Player in a Club is found to have committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation during a season, the Club may be subject to sanctions to be determined, in their absolute discretion, by the Commission.

True, however its also been dragged out because of the actions of the Essendon Football Club.

Roy Masters is probably rubbing his hands with glee at the blow this is the the AFL, but he makes some decent points in his article today in the SMH about the difference of the penalty between Essendon and the Cronulla Sharks.

The Sharks players admitted their guilt, took the 3 month ban that was also offered to Essendon and moved on.

I feel more sorry for the players who have left the AFL and are trying to earn a decent crust in the lower leagues who will be banned. They wouldn't have the same player contract guarantees.
