This is just a placeholder to get opened later in the year when it actually matters.

Almost that time of year again. Just thought it would be ideal to have a separate thread for all news, articles, and training reports etc. for this pre-season. Interviews have started early this year with Damien Austin already getting involved.

New Lions High Performance Manager, Damien Austin, spoke to LionsTV yesterday about his plans for the team.

Pre-Season Training Starting Dates

The 1-4 year players return for pre-season training on Monday 9 November and the 5+ year players will return on Monday 23 November 2015. The boys will be training at our Coorparoo facility at the following times each week:

Monday: 3:00pm (except Monday 23 November)

Wednesday: 8:30am

Friday: 8:30am

Also be sure to grab your Brisbane Lions Memberships for the upcoming 2016 Season!

Talking a lot about fitness, would rather us put on a lot of strength, mass and for us to work on our tackling techniques.
Disagree. We are at our best when we are 'running and gunning' so to speak. Leppa loves this style of play and when it comes off you see games like how we played against port and the doggies.

I dont have any stats to prove this as im too lazy and only just finished work but i would say we are close to the unfittest team in the comp since burton joined us. Im happy for this guy to come in and focus more on fitness and recovery cause we just lacked that with burton.

The tackling of rockliff, robinson and bell will be handy enough.

The problem is l reckon we are also one of the competitions most physically immature sides as well. I dont' think we can rely on just 3 players to do the bulk of the tackling.

If you look at guys like Paparone, it just makes it so hard for him to play his position as he is getting outmuscled way too easily. Would be good if we could have a balance of being strong but also fit. The swans do seem to have a good fitness program so l will trust that he will be better than Burton.

We definitely need to improve our core strength. I've said it before, can't remember a collective group going to ground so much. Our young backs in particular.
Sydney of recent times are very good in this area, so hoping it will be addressed.

Hopefully we can get some new state of the art equipment, instead of trawling sites like Ebay and Gumtree for secondhand bargains!

I don't believe the gym equipment is the problem. More like we don't have the extra state of the art equipment that other clubs have.

Did I say there was an issue, my comment was I guess it is important
IMO I would have thought it would be fairly important. Austin mentioned that we will be looking to get single brand equipment which would be great as it will hopefully allow us to get a decent discount on gear, and maybe even a fitness brand sponsor. Would be hard to gain something like that if we have 10 different gym equipment brands at the club.

Also it looks more professional as well, which would help with potential new recruits... not saying its the only thing they look for but a clean, aesthetic and efficient work environment for mine would be appealing.

Some things I'm hoping we can look forward to for pre-season training.

  • Another community training session/s. Was a good incentive by the club with huge range of benefits.
  • Hopefully see some muscle gains in the players. Increased core strength is important. Hoping most of the 2-5 years all add about 2-3 kg each on average. Should increase resilience as well. Also a brand spanking new gym would be amazing.
  • Getting to see the new recruits up close. Really looking forward to watching Bastinac closely.
  • Increased media engagement from the media gurus at the Lions.

Anyone know if we will be doing any special training this off season? High altitude or heat training?

Maybe giving away some of the old gym equipment.

I just hope with the flooding and the humidity up there, the after affects don't leave the place musty, damp and mouldy which can lead to more staph infections.
