'Brian lake thinks his friend Lewis will go to Melbourne to prolong his career. '

Can anyone explain to me how that works? Won't he be the same age for us as he is for them?

And that age is 23, of course

Maybe Melbourne will offer him an extra year?

Doesn't sound like he'll be in contract extension talks with Hawthorn anytime soon. Maybe we have offered him 2 years and a performance based trigger for a 3rd or something?

Lewis going does not damage us one bit.

True, you were already ranked 18 in clearances - who needs the only twinges that were capable of winning one?

Watch our games closely, the game was moving past Lewis. He is still a good footballer but nothing more, if anything it's pretty well known that with Lewis going it opens up the chance to recruit beyond JOM. Clarko was on a plane to Brisbane this afternoon, all sorts of things flying around ATM.

You blokes getting Lewis is good for your club, but to think that him leaving us is going to be catastrophic is incorrect.

Mark Stevens (Channel 7 head reporter) has backflipped on the Lewis backflip, now says the door is wide open for a move to Melbourne.
Brian Taylor on Twitter says he's 100% gone.
Brian Lake think he's going.
Rob Waters (brother in law of Liam Pickering, apparently) thinks he'll ask for a trade.

I reckon he's ours. For what remains to be seen, but in classic BigFooty/Demonland style let me ask, would Matt Jones, Dawes and Terlich get the deal done?

If Mitchell and Lewis both go, it's a massive and unexpected changing of the guard at Hawthorn. Truth is though, both those guys are past the peak of their powers.

If you bring in JOM and T Mitchell, it's actually some pretty good manoeuvring.

Our third rounder or a change of second rounders will do it.

Will free up decent salary cap space for Hawthorn and we aren't going to pay heavy for a 31 year old inside mid, when we actually need young flankers.

Just turned 30! Probably 2 years of decent footy left.

We will be shifting to do 2 things -

1. Improve our draft position which will be quite poor after the JOM deal

2. Clear more space to chase another target outside of JOM

I dunno, first and second in their B&F this year. Mitchell was AA too. They're still pretty ****ing good, Mitchell more so.
They might hit the wall next year but I wouldn't bet on it.
Huge move by Clarko but he has a billion credits in the bank so it will probably lead Hawthorn to a premiership in 2018, knowing those campaigners.

They are still great players. No doubt. Just not getting any better, and both of them have had better years than 2016.

Perfect experience for our young list though. 4 x Premiership player and B&F winner from the best club of the past 10 years (or more).

We'd be effectively getting a midfield coach who can still get out there and play.

I forgot Harry Dear will be having a look around the club and meeting with a few people in the next few days. Will be looking at Carlton facilities and Melbourne as well.

From the north trade board.

Would be a good pick up for the right price, could fill the fwd/ruck role we currently lack (197cm and 102kg). 2nd year player having only played this year due to a shoulder reco last year. Was Adelaide reserves' leading goal kicker (37).

Yeah fair call

That's if JOM actually plays more than 3 games a season. Everyone seems to be forgetting he is extremely injury prone and a huge risk

Lewis will be bordering on 31 when the season kicks off in 2017, yes not the end of the world I know.

The Hawthorn forum here have been less than positive about him during the year, and for good reason (and I find there are quite a few very honest supporters on that board).

I can't help but feel he might be another Cross, that is the last part of the last year of cross when he went downhill pretty quick.

He must have a great rep in the inner AFL circles for Melbourne to be hunting him, and be someone that can provide leadership, experience and add to the culture at this club. Otherwise I just don't see it.

He was 2nd in Hawks B&F and got somewhere around 40 touches in their last final? He's still a gun

Also, Hawks don't want him to leave.

Not sure idea want to tie up $650k+ for 2 years on Lewis though.

It could hinder our ability to land a younger free agent or trade aggressively for a couple of years.

If we get him for a third rounder and his salary isn't high, it would be awsome.

650K is hardly much for a player of Lewis' ability and what he has achieved, hence why he is probably so pissed in the first place after taking pay cuts at Hawthorn so the team could remain together.

He is still a gun who wins his own ball, age doesnt change that, never been a great kick, just a fierce competitor who leaves it all out on the field, id gladly take 2 years of spiteful, vengeful Lewis wanting to stick up Hawthorn on 650K PA. Bargain.

Agree with everything..

However, Lewis would probably be one of our best kicks forwards of centre haha.. can hit a forward 50 target

Edit: some good examples in this vid http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/video/2016-05-24/jordan-lewis-250-games-highlights

Certainly would expect us to have a look at him.

Agree with everything except that I would want to think carefully (or understand the internal plan), before locking up that kind of money for 2 or 3 years.

With and extra few hundred, we could grab an OMaera or Mitchell type in that time if we aren't spending it on Lewis.

Yeah but the difference isn't in the $ it's the trade that will hurt.

I'd happily trade a 3rd round pick for Lewis. He's a heart and soul type that takes players with him. If we make the finals next year, we'd be a better team with him in the side.

Yeh so I'm saying we might have the trade power but not the salary cap room.
