As Mundy's buddy I need to say something in this thread.

I suspect something like being a captain of an elite team takes a bit of growing into. With the experience of last year behind him, there's no reason Mundy can't get back to form and grow in the role of front and centre leader at the same time. I suspect that whenever Fyfe gets it, it will be a bit of a learning curve for him too. Though he has captaincy written all over him, there's no guarantee that it will go all smoothly with Fyfe either.

Next year, no doubt Fyfe will get it and, if he takes to it as we expect, he'll be captain for a good number of seasons. One more year for Mundy now will not change that and may even help as Fyfe gets back into footy after a year off.

Hesleby on the new sportsday wa show on 6prrrrrrr reckons fyfe is a major chance. Apparently he has taken the feed back on what players disliked about him on board.

I still think that was absolutely and totally blown out of proportion by certain sections of the WA media who couldn't cope with a Freo player stealing the limelight from their blue and yellow mates.
From the moment Fyfe had the classy year that earnt him the Brownlow and he won everyone across the country over with his impressive acceptance speech, the said journo's would've been looking hard for any cracks in the armour to expose.

Mundy seems to come over as a quite and almost shy type of person. Having the season from hell would be hard for anyone in his position to deal with, little wonder he looked a bit out of his depth at times.

I don't have a problem with him staying on for one more season but after that it's time to get Fyfe into the job. It's doubtful the club would not be working in subtle ways behind the scene to ensure Fyfe ends up as captain in 2018 if not this season imo......but that is an opinion based on nothing but a gut feel. Perhaps I could become a journalist with insight like that?

Agree with what you are saying but in fairness it would appear that a few of Fyfe's senior team mates did not make it difficult for the media to 'find' issues at the club. I think all involved may have learnt a bit from this (certainly hope Ballas has).

I believe that the public out there, fuelled by the media, like to make out that clubs are falling apart. In reality it is often less dramatic but no one can deny that Shane Yarran's circumstances were out of control and had to be dealt with.

The pleasing thing is that training appears to be well and truly back on track which means we go in with half a chance this year and with a lot of young players excited about their prospects of playing.

Getting hot flash(backs) ?

Haggers on 6pr this morning (apparently) said Fyfe would get the job, a shame if someone has leaked but more likely Haggers is just throwing a guess out there - but do you remember when he nailed that Mitchell to WC trade news?

Fyfe will get the job - in 2018.
If Mundy keeps the captaincy, that's how Hagdorn will justify getting things wrong yet again.

Hagdorn will be dining out on the Mitchell news for the rest of his career.

Sonny Walters anyone?
Word on the street is Son Son was pissed he didn't make the leadership group last season. My guess is he takes MJ's spot. I'd love it if Hilly made the leadership group, too. AS he's developed he looks more and more vocal and comfortable helping others out, as compared to the shy brick worker that walked through the doors eight years ago. Great work ethic, too.

Haggers also suggested that the vote might be today. He didn't say anything outlandish so I will give him a pass today, just suggested with a lot of senior/Mundy supporting players having left it is likely that Fyfe supported by the younger players will get up.

Sydney's last 2 Premierships have come under co-captains.

Personally, I'd like to see Fyfe announce he's signed on before making him Captain. How bad would it look to boot Mundy for Fyfe, Fyfe walk out, then ask Mundy back. Nah, give it back to Mundy until Fyfe tells the world he's a Docker for life. Then he'll have the creds.

Maybe captaincy will help him stay?
