I think we already have a deal with Rockliff, and have since the last off-season.

The gut feel I have with the Rockliff situation is that he's looking for a contract elsewhere that's enough of an improvement than the current offer from Brisbane, that would make it worthwhile moving his family. It makes sense that the current offer is less than his previous one given that when he signed the previous contract in 2014 (despite the rise in salary cap), he was equal 5th in the Brownlow the year before and was in All-Australian form in 2014.

There's no way Rockliff gets a big enough contract that nets Brisbane a band 1 compensation. I also think if Adelaide makes an offer that Rockliff accepts then it's unlikely Brisbane matches given Rockliff would likely accept the matched contract from Brisbane (because his family gets to stay, and he gets the bigger contract).

But he tries to pass it as fact sadly.
Doesn't everyone who has a rumour do that? Of course you'd believe the information that you've heard from the sources themselves.

Redhorse is just like everyone else who posts rumours, doesn't seem like he wants to post it though, for some reason

Because he'll be found out bulling again....

The case for Rockliff will be about being in a winning culture

The contract offers for Rockliff won't differ that much

This is why we will have an advantage

You're forgetting an OBVIOUS thing.

The AFL won't create a situation where Brisbane matches. They do NOT want a system where Free Agents are unable to get to the club they want to because clubs are matching and blocking player movement.

Richmond were going to match on Vickery - until somehow Hawthorn gave JUST enough money to get Vickery into band two compo, and Richmond smiled and rolled over.

The player and both clubs got what they wanted.

If you think we're going to see scenarios where players are stuck in situations they don't want to be in because the AFL are not giving enough compo, you're insane. Player power is far too strong for that to happen.

Rockliff is worth a first round pick, not a second.
Agree.

Further, if the AFL feel they need to give Brisbane extra assistance, watch them give the Lions pick #2, rather than pick #19.

My question is, who does he replace in the 22? I can see Gibbs replacing a Douglas type

Probably a Mackay/Atkins (though in this case, that's practically saying Mackay).

We run 1 too many outside midfielders as it is, and this would allow a Sloane/Gibbs to be a bit more outside.

Gibbs/Contracted >>>Rockliff/FA

Rockliff - Free hit
Gibbs ???

Now who's>>>>>>>>
You're not considering team balance, Bicks

Rockliff, although very good, is very much like the type of mid we already have. Gibbs, not so much. It's almost proven that the best teams have an even spread of types of mids

How many mids do we have like Rockliff... Matt Crouch and that'd be about it?

For team balance, Rockliff would be just as good as Gibbs.

Exactly. Rockliff would free up Sloane to more of an outside role, where I think he is very effective, along with Brad Crouch as an inside out distributor. Plus our ability to rotate players through the midfield would be greatly improved.

And as a free agent we don't have to give up the world or our youth

Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch, Greenwood, Sloane are primarily inside hard nuts, just like Rockliff

Gibbs is more of a classy mid - more of a need.

For the record, I'm not saying don't get Rockliff, he'd be a nice get for free, just if it comes down to a choice between the two, I'd certainly rather Gibbs
