I cant understand the arguments over Tabs. He was a spec rookie pick who has played marginally better than a spec rookie pick and earnt himself an upgrade . Peel is his go at the minute. Cox an 18 year old first year player is being preferred , that is enough said.
Nah, refusing to drop Kersten and McCarthy and choosing to play a defender forward over our best marking forward is called shit coaching.

Nah Cox is performing better than Tab,s, playing Cox is called good coaching. Cox playing has nothing to do with Mc Carthy and Kersten, neither ruck. Its Cox or Tabs for the relief ruck .

I would imagine the median games played for rookie list KPP's would be a lot closer to 0 than the 50 Tabs has managed. Better than marginal.

OK, I'll make a final comment on this then move on because I'm sure everyone is heartily sick of it.

I am not biased against Matt Taberner, in fact in the past I have defended him vigorously. At one stage I posted a comparison between him and Josh Kennedy and at that stage in their careers they were quite comparable. Unfortunately since then Tabs has not come on and become the KPF we hoped he would be. We can blame that on lack of opportunity, rain, being Pav-centric - whatever the reasons the fact remains he has not really blossomed the way we all hoped he would.

He had every opportunity in the world last year to really cement himself in the team, but played 17 games for 18 goals which is just not good enough. If he is this positive force that will help us win games why did we lose so many last year with him in the team?

I will continue to report on training and Peel games as I see them, and I am happy to acknowledge that it is only my opinion and at times I will see things vastly differently to others. I don't claim to be reporting on fact, I am trying to give an opinion of a Freo supporter who is actually watching the game / training but happy for others to see things differently.

As far as bias, no I am not biased against Tabs but you are certainly biased FOR Tabs. I would dearly love for him to finally have a "breakout season" (NOT "breakout game") and become a valuable KPF for us because we are crying out for one. That doesn't mean I will pretend he is playing well when I don't believe he is, and if that offends you then please feel free to use the ignore button.

This has to be one of the most rational and measured comments I've read on Bigfooty. Good job and keep sending us snippets of what you see happening at Peel/training for us that can't ever make it. Whether is heavily biased or not (not that I've found yours to be) it's always good to get a new perspective and information on things from people who all want Freo to succeed.

I would like to say you were wrong about Sheridan, but then I watch him when he plays AFL. He is making being his buddy very hard.

You do a great service to everyone who can not watch training and Peel.

Why is it one or the other? Is there a rule we have to play 2 third talls and no dedicated key forward? No other team does that.

1 dedicated key forward, 1 relief ruck, 1 third tall is the formula for most teams.

So really it's a case of Tabs or Kersten, or Cox and Kersten.

It should be Cox, CamMac and Darcy this week IMO.

Who is this key forward you talk of? Tabs:rolleyes:

Pick anyone you want. McCarthy is not a key forward. He's our first choice third tall. Traditionally you'd pick 2 key forwards to complement him, 1 of whom also takes on ruck duties.

At the moment we're not playing a dedicated key forward at all. We've got Cox who's the relief ruck, and then 2 guys who are basically lead up forwards rather than key forwards. That is not a good forward structure. Hence why we're the lowest scoring team in the league and last week were dead last for marks inside 50 as well.

Melbourne play without key forward against WC. No jack watts and hogan. Only McDonald's and Petersen.

Dunno. Tom McDonald is normally a defender but he looked like he was playing as a key forward to me on Saturday night.
He is only 194cm , 1cm more than Cox , than mean Cox can be key forward? He sharing ruck duty with Petersen during gawn absent.

The way I see it we have Hamling, Pearce, Logue and Cox. They don't all fit into one defence. I'd prefer to keep Pearce back there as he's the only one with height. If Cox or Logue can be an upgrade on Kersten and we can find a gun forward/ruck and good smalls the forward line will be good enough provided the rest of the team is functioning up the ground.

Last year we had Taberner and Pavlich as KPFs for most of the season, so we must have kicked mammoth scores and won most of our games I guess?

Last year we were 16th for total scores.
This year we're 17th.

We should probably keep doing what we're doing though, it's definitely working.

I would argue they can since Logue and Cox can play small. Particularly Logue.

Unlike the doom mongers I think we have a beauty in Logue. A priceless combination of intercept marking ability and attacking run plus long kicking out of the backline.
