Jack Leslie your time is now!!!

Or do we play two ruckmen from Witts, Nicholls and Currie?

Or do we stick with Lynch and 2MP as the forward/second ruck and go smaller / more mobile?

I think Jack Leslie is the best option.
Upgrade Darcy!

I spoke briefly with Darcy Mac yesterday. I asked if he is pencilled in for a game next week but he said he doesn't know. Spots really tight in the fwd 50.

I would think that we are pretty set for the forward line when you have Ainsworth, Ah Chee and Martin as permanent forwards with Ablett/Lyons/Barlow/Miller/Hall also rotating through.

The issue is key backs where we are 2 more more injuries away from big trouble (i.e. Brooksby playing key back).

At this stage you would just elevate the best player on the rookie list (e.g. Darcy Mac) and if another key back goes down then you would have to elevate Brooksby.

Yep I'd say we just go 2 and 2 in the forward and back line, with Mckenzie and Martin as our sort of medium talls, depending on match ups.. I guess Leslie takes Days role as potential swingman who can come in for suspensions/injuries. Is an absolute mountain of a man but looked a little rusty yesterday, although if ever there was a time for him to step up and grab a spot it would be now.

Sucks for Sammy though. At least it sounds like he could be a welcome addition to the 22 as we begin our assault on the finals though (fingers crossed) ;)

Yeh you right. Forgot how terrible Brooksby is down back.

I think we need definitely need Trent McKenzie to come into the back 6 as our 3rd tall defender. Has the leap and spoil to help take the pressure off the key backs.

Just play the 2 key forwards.

And as mentioned Leslie as the swing man. Maybe just play him off the bench to pinch hit in the ruck and swing back or forward as required?

From an opportunity perspective the Day injury definitely means the most to McKenzie and to a lesser extent Leslie.

We need someone to play on the 3rd tall down back and KK is not really that guy and basically JJ and TMac are really the only guys on the list that fit that bill and TMac would have to be in front in that battle if he can show something near his best.

I don't think they need to go in with Leslie unless they feel they need to for for specific match ups (e.g. on forward resting ruck). Didn't look much chop up forward but played his U18 season as a ruck so could potentially help out on that front.

I must be on my own but I think Leslie is a huge bust. I didn't see anything in yesterdays game to suggest he could be in the seniors at all, forward or back. Missed tackles, poor kicks, poor decisions and regularly caught out. He has all the tools but just none of the nous IMO. Hopefully proven wrong.

I'd sooner play McKenzie forward as a third tall type. The balance has worked with three talls for us before because Day plays much smaller than his size. He's quick, possesses very good skills by hand and crumbs the ball well. If we deployed Currie or Leslie there we'd be far too top heavy. McKenzie is a good size as a third tall, mobile and within goal range from 70m out. Could be a good chance to play him there now with lots of our half-backs looking healthy.

Gotta admit Jack was poor yesterday , gave away silly frees and made a few mistakes , but cant throw him away on that performance , i'm backing him to come good.

I thought Jack was alright, i actually thought he and thompson was working quite well in the first half.. gave up some frees but he didnt play with any fear i thought, gave it everything. with Sam Day out i would play 3 tall down back with Leslie. And then have lynch and wright up forward. With a plethora of mids to smalls. Spotlight is on jarrad grant after round 1.. what if rocket knows something we don't :/

Mike sheahan said after the Marcus Ashcroft interview on SEN that he got a text from Luke Ball about an old teammates he played with at the Saint jarryd allen, he received a heavy knock to his hip, which required surgery. It was serious enough to sideline him for the entire 2009 season. After what seemed to be a successful rehabilitation, he had arthroscopy, which revealed he had lost too much cartilage in the hip and had to retire and have a hip replacement

Big Sammy officially out for the entire season unfortunately. At least now that there is no rush to get him back at all he can focus on a complete 12 month recovery program and getting the hip right.

Other than that not too many concerns in the squad thankfully. Sexton, Martin and Wright to all play up in Mackay with Witts coming back in JLT3.

Hi folks, sorry to intrude.. How is Michael Rischitelli tracking with his knee? Reason being we both had identical knee reconstructions in July 2016 and I was hoping to compare my progress to an elite player.. Sorry to hear about Sam Day.. Best of luck for 2017..
Cheers..

currently listed as indefinite. think i recall seeing an article a week or so ago saying he'd be running soonish, but won't be hitting the track fully till the middle of the year.

Interesting to see how prolific Aaron Hall was at finding the ball and space yet he is still finding it hard to finish with polish and seems to have lost his radar with the goals which was his calling card in the early days. Amazing acceleration but what baffles me is how he can constantly run himself from clear traffic into traffic and take a couple of extra steps too far when getting chased. I got some feedback internally that he isn't receptive to coaching input regarding changing his kicking style and methods so seems like he is going to continue to repeat the same loops and patterns of play that probably holds him back from being elite. Has had a super pre season though apparently in terms of fitness
