Looks like RTB is pretty happy with training too

Thanks for the great report , hopefully one day get to see Langdon replace ballas and interchange position with b.hill and Weller if they play on the same wing . All will give opposition plenty to think about with their talent.
The Yarren situation could actually ignite Langdon's career, we need players with pace, tackling ability,
and Ed has all the attributes to both attack and defend.
Too much has been relied upon for Ballas, Walters, can see the load spread better with Bennell, Balic
also in the mix.
At the end of the day we need replacements for Ballas, D Pearce.

I think d.Pearce situation will be solve by tucker , deluca. Interchangeability is really a criteria in recent recruitment.

Of all our players that have played at least one game of AFL, to a max of thirty, who honestly thinks they can choose who
has the most upside, breakout year for the club?
This includes guys from other clubs, McCarthy, Hamling, its pretty hard to not get excited!
The Talls alone is mind blowing, then have a look at the other kids/positions.

I know it's a day late, but let me give you all my thoughts on training yesterday.

It was a great day for training and watching. No clouds, not too hot although the turf at Freo oval is probably due a mow, which really ruined the perfect day.

The first half of training (after the long warm ups) was a bunch of drills. Clearance work, F50 work, handball keepy-off etc. There were small groups all over the oval, doing the drills being led by the various coaches.

Positives:
- Sandi, Zac D, Griff, Apeness were all on the park for these.
- Darcy T was shadowing Sandi and basking in the greatness that is #211.

Negatives:
-to be honest, everyone was a bit sloppy - they looked tired and missed a lot of tight handpasses, shots on goal etc. No one in particular, but it was a bit untidy.
- no Neale, Ballaz (although he ran at full pace later), Balic etc - although there were a lot who came out in the rehab group later on.

Then the team broke into 2 groups and did 2 half oval match sims. This started to look a bit better, once the guys got free flowing on on the paddock. Zac D and Griff didn't do the match work, but pounded out laps, so I guess they're not 100%, but close to it.

All of the usual suspects looked good (SonSon, F7, the Hills, Johnno), but I really thought that Eddy Langdon has stepped up this summer - he was really unlucky not to win the Simpson Medal in the WAFL GF, and he's really come on from then. I think (based on WAFL finals and 2 training sessions, I've watched this year) that Eddy might be our break out kid this season.

Then they did 2 "quarters" of full ground match sims - somewhere about now Cam Mac disappeared from the track - he looked a bit ginger later on, so I wonder if he's tweaked something - although he had no strapping on when he came out later for his glamour shoot.

In the match Sims there were a few interesting positional choices.
- Fyfe Started at FF
- Tabs was playing CHF and clunking everything.
- Langdon HHF
- Lachie Weller of HB
- Apeness in the ruck (Sean D in the Fwd line)

I think the boys had really hit their straps here. In one play, both hills, Sonny and Ed langdon got involved which then saw Tabs clunk a good mark and slot a goal from 45m out - it looked really good.

Another good passage saw Johnno to Ed Langdon who threaded a pass to Darcy Tucker (who also was pretty impressive), who then kicked a goal.

After the ball work, the main group, swapped from boots to runners and pounded out another 45 minutes or so of running.

- Sammy collins looks like he's build his tank.
- Mundy struggled.
- Lots of running was done.

I think that's it. :)

I am with you that Ed should have won the Simpson. I like him and hope he does step up. He always trains well IMHO, and needs to translate that to AFL.

Did a Toilet Ducks supporter blindside you and hang one on you. When you get back to watch training you will have to come up to the Verandah as we now have Turkey Tom Grljusich (George's brother) a Souths Legend rehabbing from a replacement knee op. When he was playing in SA for Central Districts for 3 years he played for the SA team that played the Vics in Hiobart abnd he kicked 4 Goals for SA playing against the legendary Ted Whitten and won the medal for SA's best (The Fos William's medal named after Choco's father)

The upside of 2017 compared to 2016 is huge at Freo. The young kids get another and proper preseason under their belt; not a 2016 preseason where the club got all experimental and went away from what has worked in the past; the return of the injured Fyfe, Bennell(?), A.Pearce, Mundy and Johnno; a Peel premiership shared among the kids that were fighting for the same spots that De Boer, Gu, Mayne and Barlow occupied; some proper key position forwards that the coaching staff can actually build upon, instead of good ol' "kick it on top of Pav's head while he's double teamed."

I know every team thinks they're going to go the season undefeated during preseason but i'll be disappointed if we don't win more than four games this season.

That's well and good but it wasn't really working in the year or two before last preseason, at least not in the back half of the seasons. We didn't have much rebound from the back, we were slow in transition, we relied on our mids to help out the defenders and the forwards. The AFL then reduced interchanges and stoppages to make the game more offensive, which meant we had to adapt. Unfortunately being more offensive left our defence vulnerable as our previous system depended so much on the teamwork involving mids. We can't go back to the way we used to play because it will expose us in a different way. We have to keep being offensive, while fixing the holes in defence. Hopefully we have more of a balanced list to be able to that this year.

I wonder whats going on with Mundy? Showing his age perhaps?
He was on crutches at the WAFl grand final. I think he started his preseason late. Mundy has always struggled with distance running, but kept up with the repeat sprint work. It is a concern that he is struggling with the repeat sprint work this preseason in my view.
