Sorry to intrude. How is Barrett performing? Likely to the play in round 1?

Impossible to say at this point. Might get an indication in the pre-season games.

Dayne Beams has to come in to the midfield from last year, and blokes like McCluggage are going to be pressing for early selection too.

Is Barrett a rookie? What would have to happen for him to get promoted to the senior squad?

If they were competing for the same spot.
In a sense they are - the same rookie upgrade spot given we will have only one to start with and Reuben would have the inside running you would think.

Usually you upgrade them to play though. If we needed a back flanker we'd probably upgrade William, if we need an inside mid we would go with someone else.

interesting discussion when it comes to our rookies, they're all OOC at the end of this year.

Cian Hanley- if he doesn't get on the park he is gone.
Matthew Hammelmann- needs to continue his improvement, probably more of a chance to make it as a KPD with our plethora of KPF and Ballenden to come.
Reuben William- will be retained IMO. big upside, we still need outside run and gun.
Matt Eagles- with the drafting of McInerney it is obvious the club have concerns about is ability to make it at AFL level, i don't think he will get another contract.
Blake Grewar- hardest one to judge, need to see him play.
Jake Barrett- IMO he will be a good addition to our team and could be best 22 by the end of the season.
Mitchell Hinge- only young, will get another year.
Oscar McInerney- will get another year and a chance to put some muscle on that frame.

You'd think Hanley would need a miracle being in his third year. Hammer is promote or delist being in his third year. Eagles will be delisted. The other 5 would be well placed for at least another year on the rookie list or possible promotion.

I'm not so keen on Barrett. He wouldn't be the first to dominate the NEAFL but struggle in the seniors. Without skills or speed he's relying on smarts and workrate to make it at the next level.

Hanley is a long way from it, William is injured, Oscars is a long way from it too.

Grewar can find it, eagles is coming up to speed slowly . On need it would be Hammer who gets promoted imo, we have plenty of mid cover but little kpd

Reuben is a fair way off, he has a stress reaction in his shin, tough one to get over. He isn't running for another 8 weeks. So he won't push for selection until at least mid year.
Thanks, didn't know that.

Hey guys heard some interesting things re the rookie list. I believe the players have been told it will be phased out this year can't remember exactly the conversation that was had but I believe hammer & Reuben have been told they will both be extended until the end of 2018.

It was very confusing the way it all works but yeah I don't think the rookie list will last beyond this year.

Yeah clubs have been lobbying for the end of the rookie list for ages.

The rookie list rules always felt like unnecessary bureaucratic rubbish to me. List size restrictions and the salary cap are enough. Clubs can manage things as they see fit from there.

Will the senior list be extended to 44 or 46 players?

The previous thoughts are either there'll be no limits on rookies playing, or there will literally be no rookie list, so who knows. Especially with the added restrictions on Cat B spots.
