I know ppl are gonna cry that its too early to tell but I'm not convinced that Fagan is capable to taking the team to the finals.
Not sure if you are a regular to training, or even if you can make it to training, but in the last four or so years that I have been getting to preseason training there is a significant change this year. More talk, more energy, different drills and a positive vibe. I told myself I wasn't going to get excited about this season, but I am.

From what I've seen he is more manager and giving the assistant coaches more responsibility. Will be interesting to see how hands on he is when games start.

I believe that head coach should be a manager of the implementation of the gameplan and ethos and the purpose of the assistants is to supervise the players. Our last 2 coaches have been micromanagers. A good manager will only intervene when asked or if the plan is not being followed adequately.

A head coach who is too focussed on individual issues' will not be able to see the big picture with clarity.

Can second this. Most impressive training session I've been to.

Also go talk to the players and ask how they feel, very very very very very big fans of the way fagan is approaching things.

Good leaders empower those around them . Same goes for good coaches. If you don't empower those in leadership capacity, then any growth is only ever as big as your own capacity. But collectively so much more can be achieved. My take do far is that the assistance coaches have gone to a new level because of the greater level of freedom in their role given them.

Along with the close guidance of the coaches coach.

That's what I mean by empowerment mate. Yes but you are correct. Empowering others means your not trying to control everything yourself. Insecure leaders/coaches do that and it only ever creates division.

Exactly, all sounds good up to this point. My concern is how he will go on game day? Big focus with the coaches we have bought in was player development. Is Fagan known as a tactician from his time at Hawthorn? Who have we got amoungst the assistants to help with this?

Can anyone confirm training tomorrow? I looked on the site and they haven't updated it for this week. I have a sneaking suspicion that there might be a 4 day weekend for them this week

I think in the liam dawson interview earlier in the week he said they were having 4 days off.

I for one am confident that we have enough footy smarts in the box now to react to events on game day. Hopefully we wont see our coach operating in a bubble any more.

Or standing up, God forbid!

I'm not making a call one way or the other. I tend to be very late to nail my colours to the mast. It sounds like there is a better energy around the players and the club at this stage though. Of course there was that for the first six- 8 months of Leppa's reign, it may be catharsis it may be something more.

I would say Daly would be the main man. Based on absolutely nothing.

Was speaking to a bloke the other day and he reckons that Littlejohn is the man, he is the one who has brought all of the new training drills with him apparently. In 3 years will be taking over from Fagan if you ask him.:rolleyes:

If his surname is any indication, Littlejohn is most certainly not 'the man'

There is always good news and a positive feeling when there is a new coach so IMO he's no better or worse than Leppa was in his first few months. This first 12 months I just hope that the players are learning good habits and the minimum requirements.
