Can Spencer play as a forward?
Can they have hogan watts and one of gawn/Spencer up forward?
Watts practically plays wing now.

Spencer kicked 3 last night against a couple of AA backs Can take a grab and has a nice kick.
Still pretty raw
It really cones down to Goody. Does he play him to get games into him or flat out try to make finals.

The thing is Spencer was pretty quiet, so if he kicks 3 points they are saying he doesnt work in the team. I would be suprised if he plays much during the year tbh

Yeah the way I see it is he plays with gusto then fades.
Same with Goody. Brand new coach finding his feet.

But is Goody the next Buckley/Lyon/Dimma

Nah ****ing no chance

For those thinking Nankervis is cover for a Late out Sandi: (assumes using Strandica as R3)

In the first 11 weeks there is 4 occasions where Nank can be used as cover if Sandi was a late out

Rds 4, 5, 6 & 8 (of these two are AWAY games - Gawn and Nank are opponents)

On all other occasions Nank plays before Sandi

This also would mean juggling Emergencies so as Strandica can be used as the VC/Capt loophole

True but you'll need trades when you should be upgrading rookies

Agreed but if you go with a Witts/Sandilands/Nank sort of combo then you can add a premium elsewhere saving the money from Gawn so it would be the same amount of trades....

Look if he's named without Spencer then he's an absolute :lock: but if Spencer is named people will have to seriously consider starting without Gawn if he isn't attending 60+ ruck contests, it's just silly to invest that amount of money when his role has changed.

It's amazing that spencer is still considered raw. He was drafted in 2008 ffs!

Not saying I disagree with your comment. Just interesting

I know he's had his share of injuries that have held him back, but to me that's all the more reason to back maxxxy in.

Gawnstein for me at the moment. MAYBE gawndilands to get Mills at d4. I really don't ****ing know what to do!!

What makes you so confident?

Goodwin seems keen on the idea of Spencer with Gawn!

Spencer kicked some sausage rolls, but other than that was pointless around the ground.

Max will feel insulted that the coach thinks he needs help too and threaten to eat Goodwin's children.

Ok all so here is the scenario......Spencer is named round 1 along with Gawn.

What do?

Stick with Gawn

He was in 2nd gear last night having a cruise around

He's a beast and will respond accordingly in Rd1

Out of curiosity what were his scores in JLT 1 and JLT 2 versus t.o.g

I'm not sure why people are suggesting Gawn was in second gear - his attack on the ball was as committed as always, he just didn't play a great game. Whether that was due to Spencer or not, I don't know. However his performance against Carlton in JLT 2 didn't exactly fill me with confidence either with 78 from 76% game time. The only JLT game in which he's scored well was against the Bulldogs in JLT 1 where he scored 92 from 59% game time, but it's widely agreed that the Dogs have the poorest tap ruckmen.

He tonned up in all 3 of the preseason games he played last season, so I think to suggest he's going easy would be to ignore his preseason history.

Having said this he's still my R1 - if Spencer is named round 1 he won't be

both Gawn and Goldy had 49 point games against the Dogs last season.
poor tap ruckmen they may be but they do a decent job of negating the opposition.

Can't see Spencer splitting time with Gawn. When you have an asset like him you're not going to diminish his output. Spencer did ok in meaningless JLT games but it's a different story when the real stuff starts.

You have Goodwin a first time senior coach so it's now his head on the chopping block. He needs results so you'd think he will play his best team and not tinker with it. Just think what would happen if Spencer played taking Gawn's rucking time and the losses came. The demon fans and the media would be in uproar. What does Goodwin do then? Revert back, then the question of course is why did he not start like that which would lead people to query his level of competence. I'd be very surprised if he's got the balls to go down that road. Maybe a senior experienced coach who has had success could get away with it but not a new one.

For me, paraphrasing a well known saying, it's "All the way with Gawnstein".
