Duffield is a better kick then Sheridan.
Still pretty weird. You thank your lucky stars when you have a pickup in the rookie draft that is an elite kick. Seriously, you take a man like The Duff for granted, you really do. Elite kicks don't fall off trees, we have Sherro as a First Round pick and his kicking is questionable at best.
I miss Duffield :(

I watched a few of our late season games from last year. Sherro was doing really well. He has gone backwards at a rate of knots. Sutty I think has been off form for awhile now.
Played in the wrong position fam, what do ya do. Round 1 last year Sherro looked rad as hell because he played up the field while Duff dropped back.
Being played in the right position can make or break a BYB.

Yah now I admit I miss duffield too, if nyhuis turn out to be as good I am happy, sheriden I think if Hughes and Tucker improve will be good depth, first round pick is nothing .

Sutty and Sherro probably deserve to be dropped. But then again Clarke got a game so form mustn't mean much anyway.

What's the bet by Saturday arvo we're all scratching our heads about why Clarke was selected. I've been assuming Clarke's knees are giving him trouble and that's why he's playing like a taller version of Collin Sylvia but he isn't being rested when we drop him so maybe this is all he has to offer now.

if we had people to replace them, absolutely.

unfortunately we don't and it is a development year. Both of them are super young - often the 3 and 4th youngest on the team so i suspect they will be getting games instead of say, mzungu

Hawks have rotated their players from midfield/flanks for years, its why they are so hard to matchup on, creates better players.
Its their older players now who give their coach options, plus their midfield never has a sameness about it.
Mundy down back definitely makes our backline look better, I was also impressed with Hughes, add Tucker, and do we really need
Sherro, Sutcliffe down back?
Have to say it looks really bad when Hughes looks more comfortable down back than the other two, and he has played two games.

Grey has shown he can be a lock down small defender. I would have more faith in him than Spurr, Sutty, Sherro.

Alright, we all know the season is done and dusted from a results viewpoint. There's the melt thread where everyone keeps harping on this whole "plodders" thing, but so far I can't see anything looking realistically at next year. I'm not in that camp really (about our hardened campaigners being "plodders"), until now they have served us a platter of consistent success and bought a winning brand that our youth needed to see -- but at the same time I'm curious to play devils advocate here..

My estimate for starting 22 in 2017;
  • |- Spurr Pearce Dawson
  • |- Sutcliffe Johnson Ibbotson
  • |-Weller Neale Hill
  • |- Mayne Tabener Bennell
  • |- Ballantyne McCarthy Walters
  • |- Foll: Fyfe Sandilands Mundy
    • |- Int: Clarke Crozier D. Pearce Barlow
    • |- Emergency: DeBoer Yarran
This list is solid without being too much unproven youth. This list ignores that we may well get a ready-made midfielder (#1 pick) that could slot into Barlow or D. Pearce's slot immediately -- This list allows for potential to have traded away; 1. Suban -- 2. Sheridan -- 3. Mzungu -- 4. C. Pearce -- 5. Silvagni -- 6. Hannath, all without hurting our depth ; But further ignores what we could have traded in with those players. (agile ruck? talls?)

I'm not suggesting all those players go, btw! I realise that's unlikely -- I like C. Pearce and Silva, too.. I'm saying that of those there are far better like for likes in the proposed team, obviously, and better youth coming through that should be prioritised in 2017 (that will have had game time THIS season) if any starter does get injured -- By mid 2017 there would be 18 players (from the 24 above) over 100 games but a nice age profile. The only question mark for me, Crozier. Hopefully he performs this year and makes the spot a lock!

Propose yours.

besides sherdian no one would want any of those players maybe suban is an outside chance to get you guys a pick in the 3rd round

he had 10 touches on the weekend mate, he was not comfortable.
For a guy playing his second game, much to like, sure he had 10 disposals, but he
also took six marks.
Going by stats he wasnt the worst, and the reality is a top eight team playing the
bottom team. Just like A Pearce you can see the backline starting to rebuild.

just saying if 10 possessions is him looking "comfortable" i'd hate to see him uncomfortable.

Grey has shown he can be a lock down small defender. I would have more faith in him than Spurr, Sutty, Sherro.

I don't rate Grey he goes hard but doesn't have a penetrating kick and doesn't seem to be all that quick. I'd take the Spurr/Sutty/Sherro every day of the week over him. theres a reason Grey hasn't got many games before and it wasn't just because "ross don't play the youff"

There's always a moment that you remember certain past Freo players by. This is such moment. Had he done a full effort smother, much like Heath Shaw on Riewoldt in the 2010 GF replay, who knows.

But last season he got spaghetti type of tackle that Ross decided to drop him.

I understand that, but Ross is now getting a Hawthorn type lesson about how valuable elite kicks are. Never felt safer than when Duff man had the ball and was about to kick - who can we say the same about that plays for our team now?

Yes Nyhuis having very good kicking skills gives him every chance of moving from the rookie list to the main list in time.

We'd be stupid to trade Ibbotson given our back up of tall defenders. With MJ out, Ibbo will be taking over his role of spare defender. Dawson has one or two seasons left after this, so we obviously need to go after a trade.
Can see Mundy being pushed into Suttclife/Sheridan's role off half back with Bennell and Fyfe fully fit. He is an excellent reader of the play and his kicking skills are elite, which Sutty nor Sheridan seem to have confidence in.

FB: Spurr, Dawson, Hughes
HB: Mundy, A. Pearce, Ibbotson
C: Weller, Bennell, Hill
HF: Walters, Taberner, Mayne
FF: McCarthy, Apeness (can play both Ruck/Forward), Yarran (if fully fit, Ballas is in trouble. Not sure if he's in the 22 given how poor he has been)

Ruck: Sandi, Fyfe, Neale
Interchange: Langdon, Sheridan, D. Pearce, Blakely/Gray
Emergenices: Tucker, Croizer, Barlow
