With the draft now over I think I can make a better guess at what the starting 22 will be (what do i win if correct?).

B: Spurr A.Pearce Logue
HB: Croz Hamling Tucker
C: B.Hill Fyfe S.Hill
HF: Bennell McCarthy Walters
F: Ballantyne Apeness Kersten
Fol: Sandi Neale Mundy
Int: Blakely Weller D.Pearce Langdon

I'm excluding Yarren and MJ due to certain circumstances that may end with them not being able to play round one. However in the case they are available then Ballantyne and D.Pearce will be dropped.

I've included Bennell because, despite him re-injuring himself, freo have stated they expect him to be ready round 1.

There is also some significant depth which includes Ryan who is rated as a plug and play defender for us;

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-11-26/plug-and-play-eight-draftees-ready-to-go-in-2017

Outside your team are the naughty boys MJ and Yarran, also Clarke who will play a fair number of games, but there is also Sheridan and Sutcliffe who are handy, and Balic who is yet to debut but will play.

Have bolded the new additions who are yet to debut for us to highlight that they are on every line, showing the scope of our reformation. Not to mention the number of other players in your list who have barely been with us for long enough to show much more than glimpses.

Some questions for discussion;

Is Dawson going to get a game?

How much pressure is Crozier under?

I think you have avoided the question of where Weller will play by putting him on the bench, but it is a pretty good discussion point.

How soon could Balic realistically debut?

Will Apeness be preferred to Clarke for Sandilands remaining tenure, then end up partnering Dercy?

Who should be our Rookie targets?

On the rather pessimistic assumption that Johnno, Harley and Yarran will not be available for Round 1:

Spurr - Hamling - Ibbotson
Tucker - A Pearce - Crozier
B Hill - Fyfe - S Hill
Weller - Taberner - Walters
Kersten - McCarthy - Ballantine

Sandi - Mundy - Neale

Clarke - Logue - Blakely - Sheridan

Now that the trade period is over it's time to update.

Backs: Tucker Hamling Johnson
HB: Weller Pearce Mundy
C: Hill Fyfe Hill
HF: Bennell McCarthy Langdon
F: Walters Ape Yarran
R: Sandi Neale Blakely
Inter: Crozier Balic Sheridan Kerstin
Emerg: Silva, Barlow, DP, Ibbo, Ballas, Hughes, Tabs, Griff, Spurr, Dawson

A few changes following the draft. I'm also taking Yarran and Bennell out at this stage.

Back: Ryan Hamling Johnson
HB: Weller Pearce Mundy
C: Hill Fyfe Hill
HF: Balic McCarthy Langdon
F: Walters Ape Balla
R: Sandi Neale Blakely

Inter: Crozier Sheridan, Tucker, Kersten

Emerg: Sutty, Clarke, DP, Logue, Ibbo, Collins, Hughes, Tabs, Griff, Spurr, Dawson, Cox.

I think mine is pretty similar to yours Scham, picking the bench is a nightmare now. As you can tell I favour a running team.

Ryan APearce Tucker
Weller Hamling Logue
Hill Fyfe Hill
Bennell Apeness McCarthy
Ballas Kersten Walters

Sandilands Neale Blakely

Mundy Crozier Sheridan Balic/Langdon/Sutcliffe/Pearce/Ibbo

MJ has the legal stuff hanging over his head but also factoring in team balance, his injuries and his age it wasn't really that difficult omitting him tbh. Yarran also deliberately left out. Clarke will be in the mix but for the time being I have Sandi as no1 ruck hopefully being ably supported by Apeness. I'm a fan of his but Kersten with the nod over Taberner for now just because I like shiny things.

Couldn't find room for any of Dawson/Suban/Pearce/Ibbo/Sutty/Spurr of the other regulars. I'll confess this is more a 'desired' team than a 'predicted' one.

sry for weird formatting.

There's going to be some pressure on the incumbents during pre-season.

Guys who were previous automatic starts (Dawson, Pearce, Sutty, Spurr) look like depth players now.

Wut?

Luke Ryan to replace Spurr.

Lee Spurr the guy who has finished 5, 7, 8, 5 in the B&F in the last 4 years, and is in the leadership group will be ousted for a guy picked 70 odd? Selling Spurr VERY short.

I get it is exciting doing best 22s after the draft but can only see Logue being close, yes Ryan was an impressive mature ager but he will have a mountain of work to do to be in the side rd1.

I think by the end of the year Ryan might be able to push Spurr out. I never said it was a likely round 1 team, or even that it was likely in general. Chill.

I like Spurry too but I can see his lack of pace and questionable footskills being his downfall. Been a great servant but he's one player we should look to improve on.

A lot of people have tucker penciled in down back. I still think he needs another year in peel to develop . He should get games based on his performance in peel though (around 4-5 games)but other than that I see a lot of players ahead of him.

Tucker is an interesting case. I would argue that he's already at the same level as Blakely, Weller and Langdon but with a year less development. What I like about him, and I'd be surprised if Ross and co didn't feel the same, is that his work rate is huge and he does a lot off the ball. He applied the most pressure of all the youngsters this year by a fair margin from memory. IMO his poise and kicking is also a level above these guys as well and you saw at the end of last season and through the Peel finals how classy some of his inside 50 kicking was. He doesn't have the x-factor of Weller and Langdon but I thought he was incredibly consistent and reliable for a first year player. I'm of the opinion that he will develop faster and better playing AFL than going back to Peel. But if his form drops off then a spell in Peel makes sense. I'm also of the opinion that Balic has a higher ceiling than Blakely, and I think the sooner he can prove himself and debut the better.

From Dockers website
"Despite a season hampered with shoulder and ankle injuries,

Ryan went on to win the Fothergill-Round Medal, the same award won by Michael Barlow in 2009, as the best player under 23 in the VFL."

Out: Barlow
In: Barlow

Wonder if Ryan pushes for selection, that might allow Weller to go HFF. Him, Hillx2, Bennell, Walters delivering i50 mmmmmmmmmm

After the trade period and draft would like to see the round one team something similar to this

Spurr. Hamling. Crozier

Johnson. A. Pearce. Logue

B. Hill. mundy S. Hill

Yarran. Tabener bennell

Walters. McCarthy. Weller

Sandilands
Fyfe
Neale

Bench :
Langdon
Kersten
Blakely
Balic

Feel free to make a prophesy about Spurr never getting a game for us again while you're at it!
I don' t prophesy, by the way any meaning about iamjunglemuffin , is it a movie , a famous quote or muffin that smell like jungle and taste like blueberry . Sorry for my english.

I really like Balic and was/am hoping for a ripping preseason from him. Hopefully the training watchers can chime in on his conditioning, but his Instagram photo leaves a bit to be desired. Sutcliffe like arms and shoulders :(

Yarran and Bennell look in top nick!
Weller HFF for mine - chase and pressure the nimble HBF and can kick 50m plus no worries - elite delivery inside 50 too.

Croz and Tabs under pressure this year. Think their contracts are up, so will need to perform.

Toss a coin with Dawson (and Suban). Could be the de Boer / Mzungu this year. Peel specialists. Who knows. Good times ahead!

Agee. Tucker has to be included for his kicking alone. Showed up many an experienced player in his first year with his delivery.
