Team:

B: Brayden Maynard ~ Lynden Dunn ~ Matthew Scharenberg
HB: Jack Crisp ~ Ben Reid ~ Jeremy Howe
C: Tom Phillips ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Steele Sidebottom
HF: Will Hoskin-Elliot ~ Darcy Moore ~ Jaiydn Stephenson
FF: Alex Fasolo/Jamie Elliot ~ Mason Cox ~ Jordan De Goey
R: Brodie Grundy ~ Adam Treloar ~ Taylor Adams
Int: Josh Thomas, Chris Mayne, James Aish, Tom Langdon

  • Considered Moore at CHB but clearly given Mihocek is playing looks like Bucks still prefer 2 key forwards
  • 1 KPF being Cox who offers structure and ruck work
  • 1 KPF being a link up contested marker up the ground
  • Moore is a direct upgrade over Mihocek and probably is better in every regard outside of durability
  • Hence Ben Reid at CHB to take on gorilla key forwards like Dixon/Hawkins/Roughhead/Brown/Kennedy all of which Dunn may struggle against

I think Dunn actually plays better on the gorillas although he is on the short side. He always played well on Cloke even when he was at his peak gorlilla status. Where he does struggle is with the taller mobile forwards - who I class Kennedy as. The combination of height and speed means he can't use his great body work as much.

This 2019 team is best case senario regarding Tom Lynch, Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey.

Also looked at adding Cam Guthrie as an UFA as a lock down small defender who can find it 15-20 times a game.

FB: Cameron Guthrie, Lynden Dunn, Matt Scharenberg

HB: Jeremy Howe, Darcy Moore, Jack Crisp

C: Tom Phillips, Adam Treloar, James Aish

HF: Josh Thomas, Tom Lynch, Jamie Elliott

F: Jadyn Stephenson, Mason Cox, Will Hoskin-Elliott

Ruck: Brodie Grundy, Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury

I/C: Jordan De-Goey, Braydon Maynard, Taylor Adams, Brody Mihocek

Very good team.
Any team that can’t fit Brody Mihocek into the first 29 Players is a very good side.

SV, I didn't know travis had a twin, so you might need to find another bench player.
love the look of the team. we are susceptible to getting dominated by a gorilla fwd, given we are running undersized keys in dunn and shaz.
will be interesting to see how we handle lynch and 2metre peter this week. the good thing about Darcy in the team is we have insurance to switch say he and shazz if that works out on the day.
greenwood probably comes in for the varcoe duplicate, but I would love to see a riskier selection with sier coming in. a better result would be goldy making a miracle comeback with his pace and size to double team the big opposition fwds.

Ba ha ha.
Can’t say I didn’t stuff that up.
Good pick up.

I might like to list Scharenberg twice :) though.

I guess Mayne has earnt the spot in then. Though lm keen to see the progression of Murray.
And soon Sier.

The back 6/7 we have is severely underrated in the comp, quiet achievers.
Our mid size flankers/runners are the best in the league, Hoskin, stevo, jdg, Phillips the list goes on, adding all the flare.
I was realy critical of Adams earlier but he's turned it around lately, although always heart in mouth when he attempts a kick he's adds the grunt we need.
Grundy. Just Grundy.
Hell even mayne is contributing solidly ( Aish might even fit in with him maintaining his spot )
And to think we can add Billy Elliot in that forward line, he's coming in a couple week at a vital part of the season get 6 games into him pre finals, obviously a Daicos/greenwood type makes way.
It will be realy interesting to see where Reid and Moore go as I can't see them and cox all in the same team and there's no room in defence atm for Moore.

FB: Langdon Dunn Shaz

HB: Crisp Howe Maynard

FOL: Grundy Trelore Adams

C: Philips Pendles Aish

HF: Hoskin-Elliot Cox Sidey

FF: Stephenson Degoey Elliot

Int: Moore JT Varcoe Mayne

Emg: Apples Brown Reid

Don't think Howe Shaz and crisp has been underrated this year. Hear a lot of good things about them during the game. They just don't really talk about them Any other time

This season has thrown us our fair share of injuries and then some. But we've navigated those challenges really well so far. We're entering a patch of games that look to shape our season and finals chances.

The news about WHE's knee gives us a boost. As do the returns of Moore and Varcoe to the VFL on top the imminent returns of Aish, Elliott and Fasolo.

With all that in mind i'm curious of peoples thoughts on our best 22 leading in to the final rounds of the season and (we hope) finals.

Heres my thoughts:

FB: Maynard - Moore - Langdon
HB: Howe - Sharenberg - Crisp

Mid: Sidebottom - Pendlebury - Phillips
Fol: Grundy - Adams - De Goey

HF: Elliott - Mihocek - Thomas
FF: Stephenson - Cox - WHE

Int: Varcoe, Aish, Murray, Mayne

I've resigned myself to the likelihood that Treloar is unlikely to return this season and certainly not before seasons end. With that in mind I reckon we may consider bringing Murray into the side to replace some of his run and carry and to give Crisp some support. There's a role in defence with Appleby's injury. Moore will add some welcome height to a back line that should otherwise remain unchanged.

Elliott, if he can make it back, will add to an already dangerous group of small forwards. WHE, Stevo, Thomas, Elliott and stints from De Goey is a dynamic and damaging gro7p feeding off the efforts of Cox and Mihocek. Varcoe to add pace, defensive application and flexibility.

It was hard to pick the final bench spot but i've gone with Mayne. I've done this because he has a composure and a level of experience that will be handy come finals if we're fortunate enough to make them. He is neat, puts in and does his role. It could just as easily be Sier, Greenwood or Daicos or perhaps someone else from left field.

I think that's a pretty competitive looking 22 right there with a bit of injury luck which surely we're due. Hopefully we can get some runs into those returning players legs and get some form into them for our hopeful return to finals.
