Gold Coast Academy players shortlisted to play for Allies in U18 National Championships
Emmanuel Baru 2/7/99 188cm 81kg Labrador
Ryan Gilmore 28/08/00 187 84 Hermit Park/Labrador
Caleb Graham 12/9/00 194 84 Palm Beach Currumbin
Dirk Koenen 1/1/00 194 87 Palm Beach Currumbin
Bailey Scott 9/7/00 186 64 Broadbeach
Lachlan McDonald 2/3/00 185 75 Labrador
Connor Budarick 6/4/01 175 70 Labrador (bottom ager, eligible for 2019 Draft)
Timakoi Bowie 4/4/99 175 82 Broadbeach
The PBC factory produced only 2 Allies players this year, with Labrador, the Alma Mater of Yours Truly, supplying 4 players and Broadbeach a further 2. Labrador's Gilmore is originally from Hermit Park in Townsville, which has produced AFL players Josh Jenkins and Jake Spencer, our own Academy Graduates Josh Williams and Braydon Preuss, as well as Suns original, Jarrad Harbrow. Looks like we have more than one factory if we can continue to invest Academy resources and Draft picks into quality juniors.
Of the 8 Suns Academy players selected for the 50 man Allies Squad, 6 are eligible to be nominated at the Draft, with Labrador's Budarick being too young for the 2018 Draft and Bailey Scott yet to commit to either the Suns, Roos or Cats (or Vice Versa).
Graham and Scott played in last year's Allies team and were frequently mentioned among the best performers, so you'd expect them to smash it out of the park on their way to being Drafted, hopefully both by the Suns, as they have both been touted as 2nd round picks. Baru and Bowie have featured heavily in the Suns NEAFL team and will go to this year's Draft as 19 year olds, with each probably a ceiling of Rookie Draft. Koenen and McDonald have been among the best in the Academy Series, so along with Gilmore they will be vying for game time and a chance at making an AFL list.
Non-selected Suns Academy 18 yos
Matthew Smith 19/02/00 185 101 Broadbeach
Cory Beaman 3/5/00 186 78 Burleigh/Palm Beach Currumbin
Fitzroy Greenwool 24/4/00 172 58 Cape York Eagles/Broadbeach
Cooper Portelli 11/8/00 186 80 Labrador
Dean Katsiris 16/08/00 180 80 Palm Beach Currumbin
Tui Lowah 8/4/00 175 72 Cape York Eagles/Labrador
Jarrod Mills 24/03/00 177 77 Labrador
Kane Haua 5/7/00 184 77 BITS Saints/Labrador
Ari Miles 16/08/00 186 93 Yeppoon/Palm Beach Currumbin
Rainsford Stone 19/6/00 192 91 Surfers Paradise
Matthew Conroy 7/11/00 198 83 Hermit Park/Broadbeach
Jackson Brumley 28/09/00 198 90 Labrador
As for the group of players who missed Allies selection, several of them have been playing NEAFL and all may now compete to make the team. Jacob Heron made it to the Rookie list from this group last year and Connor Nutting originally missed Allies selection before being called up to star for them and get Drafted. Expect several of these guys to return next season and catch them in the NEAFL as the Senior List continues to have such a long injury list.
19 yos possible bolters for Draft/Rookie selection
Brodie Foster 3/3/99 178 78 Surfers Paradise
Harrison Arnold 8/4/99 193 84 Labrador
Damien Burke 21/01/99 189 82 Broadbeach
Riley Dreghorn 16/4/99 196 87 Mackay City Hawks/Broadbeach
Jared Neuhaus 23/11/99 205 94 Palm Beach Currumbin
Harry Simington 28/03/99 189 85 Labrador
Kwaby Boakye 16/03/99 188 87 Broadbeach
Jayden Verdoorn 29/11/99 185 84 Palm Beach Currumbin
Each of these players has had 2 preseasons, 2 Academy Series and plenty of NEAFL matches, so essentially they have to impress scouts in the remainder of this season to find a spot on a Rookie List. I like Foster the most out of this group, with Neuhaus and Dreghorn project ruckmen worth giving an opportunity.
Bottom Agers/2019 Draft predictions
James Mohr 5/2/01 182 72 Labrador
Jack Wingrave 3/8/01 183 69 Burleigh/Palm Beach Currumbin

Corey Joyce 20/04/01 174 66 Palm Beach Currumbin- brother of Jesse
Josh Molloy 3/2/01 188 77 Southport
Joshua Gore 29/05/01 176 76 Southport
Mitchell Fitzpatrick 11/1/01 178 75 Springwood
Hewago Paul Oea 13/11/01 170 62 PNG/Broadbeach
Matthew Fraser 5/5/01 177 80 Southport
Billy Birch 13/04/01 187 86 Broadbeach
Zach Briggs 20/08/01 185 72 Park Ridge
Coby Williams 17/05/01 186 70 Palm Beach Currumbin
Kyriel Pope 11/7/01 177 61 Burleigh
Samuel Johnston 21/08/01 197 77 Palm Beach Currumbin
Riley Buckland 9/4/01 174 60 Palm Beach Currumbin
As the Suns Academy grows, so too do the opportunities for Academy underaged players, with several of these guys already blooded in the NEAFL at age 16 or 17. Connor Budarick leads this group with his inclusion in the Allies, but there are at least half a dozen talented kids here who will challenge him for an Academy Draft nomination.
