Would definitely help that we went to crap. If Crows had kept themselves top 6 like they were prior to the bye it would be worse.

The pick swap evens out primarily due to how Crows finished the season. Absolutely agree.

Pick 3 for 8 and 19 is reasonable.
Pick 3 for 15 and 19 would have heavily favoured the Crows.

I think the other way around.

Crows fans should be filthy because they should have been getting pick 3 for pick 12 or 13. There is no way they expected to finish outside the 8.

Carlton finished where expected.

Agree with you the Crows would never have expected to finish 2019 season outside of the the 8.
If Stocker turns out close to expectations, then I’m quite comfortable with our outcome. Silvagni took a risk, it was an astute maneuver, he’s gained invaluable experience which will give us an edge this trade period.

According to some draft watchers, outside the top 2 picks none of this years 10 would make last years top 10.

I doubt GC would take pick 3 for Lukosius, heck they may have picks 1 and 2 in hand. Some in SA are mooting this. I don’t see happening.

It is too soon to lock those picks in. Changes may still occur.

For reference, Adelaide had pick 16 in the 2018 draft, which then shifted out to 19 due to Academy picks.

This year there is a chance that Gold Coast may be given a Priority Pick before round one. AFL commission will be deciding that soon.

Also GWS has Tom Green as an academy pick who may attract a high bid. Some mock drafts have him ranked third.

So it may remain pick 3 for pick 8 and Stocker.
Or it could go out to pick 5 for pick 10 and Stocker.

On value terms the swap is about even for both teams. This swap will not make or break either club.

P.S. I was sweating bullets around May, it was looking diabolical for my Blues.
It’s as locked in as it’s likely to get until the end of November. Even then the picks could be on-traded for more future picks and we could end up doing it all again.

Correct, I really doubt they will get pick pick 2 as a priority pick. I think it should be mid round if anything

The more i am hearing the more i am certain they will get pick 2 as a priority unfortunately.

I am hoping its not the case, we could really use Anderson.

no one has won this trade yet.
all depends on how the players go in their careers.
Eg. Stocker may be a superstar, brownlow medalist/norm smith medalist so therefore Carlton would of won. If he gets delisted in a year or two obviously the Crows would of won

What if pick 8 becomes a better player than pick 3?

When assessing "who won the trade" you have to realise that live trading on draft night puts a name to a number.

Carlton, rightly or wrongly, had Stocker at No.6 on their Board.

Adelaide, rightly or wrongly, didn't have Stocker in their Top 15.

So it very much can be a winning trade for both Clubs. This is the essence of live trading, being able to put a name to a number. Especially for the team trading up.

For Carlton, Stocker(their Pick 6 in 2018 draft now with 12 needed months under Andrew Russell) and Pick 8 for Pick 3 is a big win.

For Adelaide, Pick 3 for Pick 8 and no player they rated highly being left on the board last year at Pick 19 is maybe not a win, but is more than ok.

We did beat your healthy top 4 list with 6 players out. Reid should be thanking his lucky stars our improvement didn’t bear fruit earlier on.

Happy to continually swap firsts with the Crows.

Only took sacking your coach:thumbsu:

And Reid is thanking his lucky stars. He has just given the crows pick 3 thanks to SOS

It’s a win win trade folks
- Adelaide get their chance to draft from pick 3. They’ve not had a pick this early before. This player could help set them up for the next rebuild and tilt
- Carlton get their chance to draft two first rounders to complement the team they’ve been building for the last 3 years

With all the posturing during the year, it has actually worked out to be even.

Adelaide would be extremely happy to get pick 3. I don’t think they were too fussed about pick 19 last year because they probably had the trade with GWS worked out already for Carlton’s second this year and swapping pick 24 for 28 last years draft.

Carlton would be extremely happy that they got their man Stocker at 19 and have already got a year of development into him. They also got pick 8 which could end up landing them somebody like Martin or Papley which is probably what they need the most.

Very much a win/win
