McASEY
Future first

Vs
Stocker
Philp
Kemp

Stocker - Carlton gained a player they rated at #6 in a very strong draft.
Kemp - Carlton gained a player they rated within the top 5 this year.
Philp - No idea where Carlton rated him, but a type it needs.

McAsey - A player they needed to eventually take over from Talia.
Future 1st - Likely to be in the 20's

I can decode crow speak pretty well so I will translate..

Crows fans saying its a draw or 'win-win' = huge victory to Carlton

I’d say a bit of Martin in there for Carlton as well, sliding pick 9 over to GCS and a wink and a nod.

It's not visible though.

Said it with the Stocker trade; The work done by the CFC for the rated talent, was A-Grade.

Whether those players deserved to be rated where they were though? - Only time will tell......but Stocker looks to be an absolute beast and someone that the CFC could well do with.

Eccles had to be one of the worst kicks I've ever seen - all height, no depth. Standing on the spot and waiting for Eccles' kicks to come down was a key factor in Whitnall's weight gain.
David Gallagher was far worse!

Used to dread when he got possession for the next turnover &; relieved when we traded him to the Blues.

Seriously, we’re not going to know for about 5 years.

As a neutral, I’m at the “it’s currently a draw” stage.

Just going from the Lions recruiters comments at our 2018 draft function, we rated Ely Smith ahead of Stocker. And this comment was made before Port drafted Duursma (who we rated ahead of Ely Smith)and Carlton and Adelaide made their trade.

Until Stocker has a decent body of work playing AFL, I’m not ready to pass judgement on him as a player.

Kemp is a potential gun if he recovers fully from his ACL. He showed brief glimpses of serious talent through the midfield and up forward at the U18 champs, but never was able to show consistency in such a role before the U18 champs, and was robbed of the chance to show it after.

Philp is the big ?. For me, it’s like he plays a similar style and role to Paddy Dow, so are Carlton hedging their bets that one of them makes it. Philp was also arguably the worst kick in this years draft.

Are Carlton going for a monster midfield in the not to distant future? Cripps, Stocker, Kemp and Philp are or will be all big boys rotating through the midfield.

As for Adelaide. Way to early to judge, as they drafted a KPP and haven’t yet used the other selection on their side of the deal.

I'm expecting the asylum to be re-opened considering how mental your mob went over one death riding trade for last season...let alone 5!
Let the fun begin...

Not many as exciting as a pick in the first half dozen. GWS our only first rounder I think. Just hope they implode like us, looked a bit mentally fragile on GF day, wonder if they’ve heard of Collective Minds, fix em right up.

Lol nice spin.

Stocker - a bloke playing back pocket in the reserves because he can’t get midfield time ahead of guys like Darcy Lang and Matthew Kennedy.

Kemp - Slid for a reason. Coming off a serious knee injury. Very risky pick up. Bit of a utility in no man’s land as well. Not quite a key forward but not quite an inside midfielder.

Philp - Shocking user of the footy and an all round average player if you watched any under 18s. Your recruiters panicked because they thought they were jumping Richmond when it was later revealed Richmond were never interested. Another SOS special.

McAsey - The best tall in the draft. Highly promising.

First round pick - Will likely be late but Adelaide have a knack of drafting superbly without needing access to top five picks ever year like some clubs do:rolleyes:

I am almost certain Adelaide will win this trade, especially when you consider the respective clubs’ histories with player development.

Adelaide lost this trade the minute they traded down in this year's draft, they risked a massive loss and ended up back exactly where they would have been without doing either trade.

It is shithouse list management, forget what Carlton have done they traded a pick in the 2018 super draft for one in the compromised 2020 draft, mcasey would have been there at 9 no one else was interested.

Watching Philp in the intra club yesterday, I agree with half your statement early days. Finds the pill and looks dynamic with ball in hand but thus far butchers the ball by foot. Overall looks to have a fair bit to work with.

Stocker is a bull. No concern with him whatsoever

Fair enough mate. Appreciate the response. Philp I think should aim to be a poor man’s Rory Sloane. He will hopefully carve out a career as an honest scragger.

Will be very interesting watching Collier-Dawkins and Stocker go this year. RCD is probably our best youth prospect, ahead of Stack. Crazy what he could become.

from my PoV

McAsey - good kpp prospect
2020 first

Stocker - i thought he was being over-rated as a 15-25 prospect let alone 6th, he might be an ok player for 10 years imo
Philp - i think he was taken purely based on endurance and clearance numbers, the rest of his game is low quality, disposal, decision making, team work ect
Kemp - injured ACL which scared clubs off, could be a star, has all the tools, but injuries have ruined more than 1 career.

i think a lot is riding on Kemps shoulders(and knee) as to whether Carlton can even out the trade imo.

Clearly no bias in this post at all, next.

Dave-27 is as objective as they come mate. He spends a lot of his free time scouting junior footy, his opinion on this matter is probably the best one you are going to get on this site.

Yeah that's why he has 3 words for one club and an essay for the other, as bias a post as you will get.

Team work is definitely not a weakness with Philp, and his decision making is at a good level. His kicking needs work, but for the position he plays he will never need to be an elite kick. His tackling pressure and smarts around the contest have been obvious at training.

A fair bit of imagination/assumption in Davo’s post. Seems like a decent prospect.

Where is the bias?

Davo-27 is one of the better draft watchers on BF.

He’s wasn’t alone with his opinions on Stocker predraft. That was a pretty common opinion across the board from all the draft watchers.

There was a pretty similar opinion on Lions draftee Ely Smith who was taken two picks later.

And a similar opinion of Sam Philp and Thomson Dow in this years draft.

Big bodied inside mids (with the exception of Dow) with good to elite athletic or physical profiles, with knocks on certain skills.

They all look like players that were picked on a needs basis, rather than best available talent on board.

How Philp and Dow were selected before Deven Robertson and Trent Rivers amazes me.
