And conversely Adelaide are in the mix with about 12 teams for a finals spot, but are still a mid-range team leveraging a favourable draw. They aren’t better than a fully fit GWS, West Coast or Richmond.

Still a long way to go in the season.

Agree wholeheartedly.
We do have a decent draw though with Saints and Suns twice.

The other thing though is whether those teams stay fit and whether we get fit.

Who are the players drafted by SOS who are guaranteed stars?
Cripps yeh ok.

OK. So now we know you're just taking the piss.

Are you talking about the same Cripps who was drafted to the club before Silvagni arrived?

Or is there a different one I'm not aware of?

Surely if you're going to try argue something you should at least brush up on some very basic facts.

The rest is just fluff. Take it elsewhere.

SOS’ entire 2015 draft cohort (his first at Carlton) looks awesome: Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Cuningham and Silvagni.

Wietering looks like a lost little boy out there.
Doedee at 17 is twice the player he is at 1.

Also when you have 3 picks in the top 12 its pretty easy to get it right.

Silvagni wouldnt even be there if it wasnt for his surname.

If you had Oliver and Cripps instead of Wietering and Cripps you'd have probably 3 or 4 wins by now.

Take it elsewhere? What? I cant discuss Carltons drafting in a thread about carltons drafting?

Name me a player he's drafted who is a guaranteed gun at CFC?

This will be good.

Well yeah, if you're going to post garbage - most of which has exactly zero relevance to the Stocker trade - you can take it elsewhere.

Because you're not posting in this thread any more.

It wasnt a supprise adel were going to have a soft draw after finishing where they did.

I try to look at genuine criticism of his recruiting then i see posts that imply SOS is a bad recruiter for picking the best 18 year old in the country at the time and just laugh at the mental gymnastics you need to believe that.

Then they use his draft history at GWS and completely forget about list balance, depth, height, character ect. and people carry on about a midfielder or whatever he didnt pick up after having already excess amounts already of that position already.

Toby Green, Devon Smith, hoskin-elliot, Shiel ect.

"but y da fk did he not pick wingard???!?!?"

get outta here with that trash.

Do you even watch footy?

This could still happen, They have been playing well and only really bad game was the North Game which they were expected to win

Carlton have a lot of winnable games coming up and i could easily see them doing what Brisbane done last year and get on a roll and win 5 more games and finishing on 24 points with 90%-95% percentage and finish the season 15th/16th
Spot on.

The AFL should have intervened and blocked this trade.

No way one of the worst teams in AFL history should be allowed to trade their unprotected future first round pick.. certainty not for Liam Stocker anyway.

When the idea was first floated, picks were going to be top 3 protected.

I'm not sure why this wasn't carried through.

Silvagni rated Stocker the 6th best player in a super draft. What don’t you guys get about this?

Carlton don’t lose because we got the player we wanted, pick numbers are meaningless. If we end up finishing 14th this year as an example, that pick in the 2019 draft will be roughly where SOS rates Stocker. We then get another first rounder for nothing.

Rowell and Anderson may be better than Walsh.

What don't you understand about this?

How would that work?

There may be a maximum protection period like the NBA of say 2 years in an AFL example.

In Carlton's case this year they would get the #1 pick.

Adelaide would now get Carlton's 2020 first round pick instead. If 2020 was also a bottom 3 pick, Adelaide would get Carlton's 2021 first round pick.

The 2021 pick would be unprotected, so Adelaide would get any pick regardless of where Carlton finished in 2021.

Imagine the discussion last year at draft night if that was the lay of the land..SOS says we want your pick 19 and your 2019 1st for our 2021 1st. Reid would have kindly told him to GGF

Well, it's not technically their 2021 pick at that point.

If Carlton finish 15th, you get their 2019 pick.
