With the last(?) pick of the draft, Sydney selects Joel Cochran from its academy. According to the Rookieme website, the "195cm defender is mobile, composed and aerially apt, drawing inspiration from senior Swans Nick Blakey and Tom McCartin."

Is that it? Are the list managers doing summaries or anything?

Yeah I think that's it... we can do summaries if we like!

if it went this way you just know Lalor would end up best in the draft

I took Smilie and I have this real boom bust feeling about him. That said I think Lalor is too. I took Langford with the first pick because I think that he'll be a near certain A grade mid. He never seems to have a bad game.

If I wasn't going safe I have had Travaglia, Reid and Lindsay in line for one of those picks. Hotton is interesting too. His pre injury form was outstanding but because you can't see him back it up, you're taking a big risk.

Nah he's way more dynamic than Stevens. More a Windy than Stevens

Manic pressure game was meant to be his thing. His disposal is a bit ordinary but plays with real energy and mongrel. He sounded a bit like an on ball Mitch Robinson from reports.

St Kilda took

Harvey Langford
Position:
Midfielder
Size: 190cm
Clubs: Dandenong Stingrays/Mount Martha

A gun big-bodied midfielder who’s elite consistency across all levels was rewarded last month when he was named co-Larke Medallist. Langford was mighty for Vic Country across four games, averaging 25.5 disposals, 10.8 contested possessions, 7.5 score involvements, 6.2 clearances, 6.2 marks, 6.2 inside 50s and 129.5 ranking points. Whether it was by hand or foot, inside or outside, on the ground or in the air, Langford was a dominant player. What impressed scouts most was Langford’s damage forward of centre during the carnival. Langford told AFL 360 last month he was keen to improve his speed from congestion. But the fact he’s taller than most of this year’s other top midfield prospects and shown an ability to hit the scoreboard at Talent League level — 13.11 from 10 games — makes him an attractive prospect for clubs with early picks. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/dr...e/news-story/f2b9fb758e69c8c26d8a71472dbdb309

Josh Smilie
Likely among the top handful of prospects for 2024, Smillie missed out on last year’s Talent League Grand Final through injury but has done more than enough to prove his potential. The 194cm utility is a monster at the contest with his size, clean hands and high level footy IQ, all of which have been on display since his Under 16 carnival with Vic Metro in 2022. He’s a phenom at Under 18 level, too. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/josh-smillie/

Christian Moraes
Having missed out on Vic Metro Under 18 selection in 2023, Christian Moraes starred in the Eastern Ranges’ Grand Final run. Hailing from a basketball background, he’s a smooth mover with clean hands who thrives in attacking phases, carrying the ball at speed and with frequency. He also has the ability to roll forward and hit the scoreboard, or play on either side of midfield as a more outside type. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/christian-moraes/

Jack Ough
GREATER Western Victoria (GWV) midfielder Jack Ough is our Coates Talent League Player of the Week after stuffing the stats sheet in Round 16. The 194cm talent filled his boots with 32 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles, and five inside 50s as the Rebels fell a single point short of Calder on Sunday.

Capable of featuring on either side of midfield, Ough utilised his solid frame and clean fundamentals through the engine room to lead all comers in the tense contest. The Vic Country representative, who played a specialist wing role at the National Championships, continues to showcase his versatility.

His 32 touches marked a personal best, with Ough’s next most prolific tally being. He also posted season-highs for kicks, marks, tackles, and inside 50s in what was a true breakout performance. The monstrous haul brings Ough’s averages up to 21.2 disposals and 5.0 marks per his nine outings. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/2024/07/30/2024-coates-talent-league-round-16-potw/

As a draft haul I went midfield heavy but with a couple that are more adaptable. Moraes can play high HF or midfield. Has a bit of brilliance and X factor about him. Early top 10 pick who drifted out after a mixed bag Champs. Smilie is a huge unit. Plays midfield like Cripps but can drift forward and play like a lead up forward. Early on touted as pick 1 so if he drifts out to us he's hard not to take. Langford looks like a Lenny Hayes type of midfielder who just keeps racking up numbers and never seems to have a bad game. Jack Ough is a bit more speculative but looks like another more adaptable type that can play inside or outside. Add in Peckett and Cole and maybe rookie Hoffman and we have a huge haul of new talent with some real high end potential.

Can anyone inform us about Lenny Hofman, his size, speed, position, ability. He seems to be a closer to being ready for AFL than Cole. Also where does Elwood Peckett fall in comparison with the academy boys. What order should we take them in?

190-191cm

2.861s 20m sprint but seems to play slower than that

Lockdown medium defender/half back (Wilkie x Webster mix)

Solid defensively, limited offensively. Should go late in the draft

More readymade than Cole, yes, but Cole has massive upside and a higher ceiling

Peckett is also a good player but not really a standout. Cole is mostly rated highest of the three but Hofmann vs Peckett is more subjective

OK, punters here I go.
Can we start with a Bang? As I blow your minds the unexpected pick one!

Richmond football club. Please welcome your next Trent Cotchin, Jagga Smith - Oakleigh Chargers - MID 181cm DOB 28/01/2006

Looking at their board confirmed my suspicion that their biggest need is a high impact mid: their mids are in the peak or older.

Jagga looks to me like Cotch at his best, hunting the ball and distributing at will. He is the engine AND the oil. He needs to get a stronger core but he's slippery and high impact.

Josh Smilie is obviously a gun, but his size scares me. He could either be a prototype mid that all teams will be searching for in a few years or a slightly too lumbering version of Paddy Cripps. FOS doesn't really convince me for whatever reason. Anyway I thought Jagga suited the Richmond model more, and he already knows the club.

Many would say this is a massive reach, but I don't mind, I think he's exactly what the Tigers need.

Nice bit of agreement from the pros. Would love Jagga at St Kilda!
