Imagine if they lost their 1st round pick & finished bottom.

Btw, won't happen to a Victorian team as Essendon didn't even lose a pick for a systematic doping program.
Yet we lost 2 first and 2 second rounders for agreeing to trade someone for a second rounder and organising a sponsorship for them that would've still kept us under the salary cap even if we'd paid it as his salary

Because we weren't on the AFL protect list.

If he goes Port will get two first rounders, with at least 1 top ten. That gives them a decent shot at the classy SA lads coming through. With Rockliff and SPP we have Ollie type players in the wings. The signing of Rockliff may be a clue as to the club and Ollie's intentions.

I want him to stay, but it's not the end of the world if he leaves as he will be very highly prized.

Not if its North Melbourne he heading too, a Club who could have one of the first 3 picks in this years Draft. Because Ollie would not be worth the 1st round pick or in that case a top 4 pick in this year's draft. As for the Preseason Draft if it the Saints, then him nominating a 1.2mil x 5-year deal put a lot of Clubs of.
However if its a club with the 1st round in teens them maybe they will trade. ie St Kilda. But again Port negotiating ability is hindered by the offer he would get and his ability to nominate for the preseason draft.

Need to remember Crows only got over's from Melbourne for Lever was because North had Money and importantly an Earlier pick in the Preseason Draft than Melbourne. so the Crows had Melbourne over the barrel.

Anyway have fun until he signs on because after all the shit we have copped from you guys we certainly will be having fun.

How long did it take you to come up with the absolutely least likely scenario possible, North will pay whatever it takes after missing out on the others last year? He wont be moving for less than a top ten and other first rounder. That's just a fact.

What is the bargaining power of Port to get a top 10 pick from either North or the Saints,
Factor in the Pre-season draft. and if the experts are correct North will finish bottom 5 and Saints not much higher. both those team have money and both looking for Talent.
This year Draft is very good so no team is going to give up a top 10 unless they absolutely must. and North and the Saints may not have to unless of course, Port finish below them which I doubt will happen.
Again Port bargaining position is not as good as you believe. More so if its North and they finish bottom. giving them the 1st pick in there still functioning preseason draft.

You don't think our recruiting team knew that? Why do you think they purposely held off on the Cameron deal until the Gibbs deal was done? They knew exactly what they were doing, and got the end result that they wanted.

According to my mail that isn't quite right Jenny.
As was reported CC was looking for a trade to the Lions and as some reports suggested this wasn't CC's doing or initiated by him.
As was also reported there was a discussion with CC and Pyke, CC didn't want to go however other forces were at play. In the discussion with Pyke CC told the Don he wanted to stay, you would also remember reports suggesting CC had changed his mind....which he did.

It is my understanding that CC received a phone call from a family member in Perth post the Pyke chat and leading to the conclusion of the draft. CC then called the club/list manager and suggested he wasn't sure about what he wanted to do......this at the 11th hour.

Pyke was contacted and CC was traded, on my understanding on Pykes instructions, as he no longer trusted young Charlie and his commitment to the club and team.

The sad thing here is that this young kid didn't want to leave however when certain "characters" are involved and influence the result is this.

There is a real concern that CC will lose his way and won't have the support he had at the Crows.

Don't believe for one minute this was because he wanted to be close to family....that is a total myth.

Hence my comments about "swings & roundabouts" and "coming out even".

Carlton seriously bent us over and weren't polite enough to use lube. We did the same to Brisbane & Melbourne.

That's a tough situation, but one where you unfortunately have to put the team above the individual, especially when that guy is coming out of contract. He's changed his mind back and forth (whether through his own motivations or external forces) multiple times in a shot period, we could keep him, have him say he wants to stay and then change his mind again and leave when he has no contract, which would lessens the compensation for him.

I'd of loved to have kept in though, I hope everything works out for him, both personally and professionally up in Brisbane.

Port's game plan
- need to kick more goals
- need to be tougher in defence
- whenever the other team has the ball, we should tackle them
- when getting an inside 50, try to score. If you can't score, try to keep the ball inside 50

May as well hand them the cup now. That's way better than the "just sit on your arse and something will happen" gameplan the other 17 clubs have for this season.

And the master move, put Westhoff in defence.....

Wines is hardly the sort of play who goes for 2 first rounders including a top 10.

Cheers for that .....won't surprise at all to see Charlie back at the Crows in the future

What's the phrase I need to use...Lowballing? Maybe he can ask Mr Watts for a loan
Maybe Wines could be the player pushed out the door, as a result of the player chase .....Watts, Motlop, Rocky did not come for peanuts ......usually there's a fall-out consequence

They cheated their way to a wooden spoon favourite quality list?

That takes a special kind of terrible

Especially when he is out of contract.

EDIT: only 260 days to go

I would be very surprised. The statement that "CC was traded, on my understanding on Pykes instructions, as he no longer trusted young Charlie and his commitment to the club and team" pretty much eliminates any chance of CC returning - at least while Pyke remains in charge.

Well, it may depend if those "influences" remain in his life if the original rumour at the time was true.

It doesn't eliminate the possibility ......it's highly unlikely, but Ablett showed that sometimes home is where the heart is ......and there was a strong Crows attachment

Bomber Thompson was asked last year, would he take Ablett back at Geelong .......his response, "in a heart beat"

So both Blight and Cornes senior think Hinkley’s gameplan isn’t the way to go. I can see the wheels coming off real quick when things Hinkley has said come back to haunt him. What happens when he veers away from what he’s said at the convention? He’ll cop almighty hell and the pressure will ratchet up even further and Port just committed even more years to him! The convention was one of the dumbest things I’ve seen a football club do. Port have completely lost their way under Koch and Hinkley. This won’t end well.
