Can’t wait for a Freo premiership! We’ll make that America’s Cup thingo look tameI was playing in a band during the cup and leading up to it and we were working 3-4 nights a week, doing all the pubs you mention. 3 sets a night and plenty of free booze. Good times.
We played His Lordships on NYE 1987 and it was bedlam. The whole west end became gridlocked with people to the point it was scary. We ended up hemmed in on the stage, the place was so full and overflowing into the street there was literally nowhere to go between sets, we had to just sit on our amps and have a drink while we had a break as there was a wall of humanity jammed right up to the mic stands.
I left all my gear there and walked home at the end of the night as there was no chance of getting a car into Freo, the streets were like a riot.
When I walked back into town the next morning it was like walking through the aftermath of a war with people passed out in the streets and crap everywhere. I had a raging hangover and asked the barman at his Lordships for a hair of the dog and he informed me the entire pub had been drunk dry of every alcoholic beverage. They had nothing left.
I went to half a dozen pubs before I found a beer at the Norfolk.
Crazy times.
