How’s the ‘me time’ breakfast from Connors. Give me a spell
I have no issue with getting the best deal for his client. Thats his job.
But we keep getting burnt. And he keeps treating us like B grade employers compared with the big clubs.

I have no doubts in my mind that when looking at potential suitors for his clients, the ability for work post football and finding an off field role are discussed.
Because he'll still be making commission off said player post retirement.

Its not guaranteed that anyone who finishes footy gets a gig in the media or as a coach so does the appeal for ventures outside footy come into it? Surely it has and will continue to do so and thats where the systems broke.

He certainly takes care of his players' financial future as best he can, purchasing investment properties and shares in businesses etc. Hodge owns a few homes and a company, plus has shares galore elsewhere. Missus Toes was having a whinge to Missus Hodge about how badly we needed a new kitchen last year and she responded that they'd just sold one of their investment properties down the Mornington Peninsula to fund the re-doing of their kitchen at home near us. The re-doing of a kitchen they fully re-did only four years prior mind you.

Isn't Connors' first qualification as an accountant? Not surprising he would place a big emphasis on financial planning and setting up for life beyond footy (as all good agents should tbf).

Expect some news to drop shortly.

It's great that he's looking after his clients, but the argument should be made that by talking his clients out of crossing to smaller clubs, it's compromising the integrity of the competition as it makes it harder for smaller clubs to land talent.

Clear conflict between looking after players and maintaining what's left of the integrity of the competition.

Joyces should do a sales closing course before the trade period next year

I hate that Connors has probably ****ed us over but it's not a manager's job to look after the integrity of the comp.

'What's left'.

I think we need to stop letting emotion/bias get in the way of judging agents like Connors. The reality is bigger clubs can offer more commercial opportunities and a good player agent should absolutely be looking out for opportunities outside of and post football for their clients.

Our favourite man Terry Wallace just said he would pick Ryan Burton over Polec.

Did i miss when Ryan Burton was a good footballer? All i have seen is a soft, slow slighty tall guy who has a nice kick
He's obsessed with him. Trust me from the many times I've heard him speak ablut him.

Never said it was.

I said there's a clear conflict between what is best for a player from an Agent perspective, and what is best for the competition from another perspective (The AFL), or there SHOULD be.

And again.

No argument there.

But the AFL has stated post Judd/Visy that opportunities outside the cap are a no go, so shouldn't factor into a decision around moving clubs.

But they remain weak on enforcing it.

I had the pleasure of picking up Chuck Connors from his East Malvern abode about 15 months ago.

Took him and his Mrs to the old Geebung Polo Club In hawthorn, differently named these days.
It was about the time our offer to the prodigal son became public .

Obviously I got into his ear
“Do the right thing Paul, bring him home etc etc”
He nervously laughed and dismissed me, “ there’s a lot to play out” were his words.
( my pleas were obviously useless)

Anyway after ascertaining we had mutual mates at Xavier , he relaxed from being a total knob into a half decent bloke.
So I asked him
“ how did you get into this, you’re a bit of a hot shot these days bro”
“ I’m a chartered accountant by trade, but I worked for Ricky Nixon, but when Ricky went a bit LOOSE, I took over all his clients”

I sincerely hope he steers Young Joshua the right way , fingers crossed

I take your point on outside opportunities however our club has a pretty good quota of ex players who have had great opportunity post their playing days be it in the media or coaching etc. We are pretty well represented. No doubt that relates to the success they had during their playing days which plays a big part. I think the success of the team you are playing for plays the biggest part in your opportunities outside of football and post football so send them our way Connors!!!

Amazing what kicking and marking a ball does for ya hey Toes

I don't really see Connor's being the problem personally.

My view is on 3rd party involvement being the issue. Chase the money. Under the table deals get's done all the time. AFL wouldn't be any different. If there was a problem....I'd lean more in that direction....and not Paul.

If anything, Connor would get a bigger commission for the deals we have pushed fwd....or at least that is what is in front of us to see.
