I find this all incredibly embarrassing for the club. Perception is actually pretty important in the AFL when trying to lure players to your club and we have now missed out on Kelly, Martin and Gaff after all agreed at some point to join us. Other players in the league notice these things and it would absolutely influence their thoughts about our club.

I can't defend them with this repeated failure to get the final signature done - it's amateur hour. We won't have Gubby next year and it will be back to Joyce once again and he just can't get the big names over the line. It also ruins any chance of finding anyone else suitable at this very late stage.

If it's true that Polec was told we would have Gaff and that influenced his decision greatly then he is going to be pretty pissed off and could backflip himself.

It honestly feels like we have to hold these guys families at ransom to have any chance to bring them in and even then it feels like they are willing to let their families go just to stay where they are.

I look forward to the it's happening movement with JK next year...

No point blaming posters on here who have been providing inside information, or the club.

I for one enjoy what they all bring to this forum, and if someone has given us a verbal commitment and then back flipped what can you do.

In essence this whole process has shown how unprofessional and weak Gaff is.

He has treated the NMFC and our supporters with contempt.

I thought he was a genuine guy to the point that I have defended his punch on Brayshaw as an accident. Now I'm not so sure.

I know NMFC will act professionally, but I really wish we could hold a press conference to let everyone know what a lying campaigner he is.

I look forward to booing him when North meet the Eagles next year.

I have been watching this thread religiously over the last week or so, like most of us.

I am bitterly disappointed that he is not coming. But what occurs to me is that if he was that torn, and is willing to renege on an agreement that he presumably made, at the last minute, knowing knowing it would cause a bit of mockery to fall on the club that essentially offered to secure his future, then he is not the type of person I want running around in blue and white. Everyone forecast disaster when Dusty back flipped, and the same forecasts will happen today, but we keep on going strong. And if you are feeling miserable, just go and watch “Keeping North South” to remind yourself of how great our club is.

Get rid of gaff from the title please. I’ve already moved on. JK - get onto it now North!

Nah Mate. Look at the History of our club. We have landed big name players in the past. You could argue it got us our first Flag in 75. Previous administrations didn't seem to have that problem of selling our small club to players at other clubs. The pattern is there in us missing high profile recruits in recent times. We need to be better. No excuses. :stern look

I would say the gap between big and small clubs is bigger than ever, when you consider life after footy, salaries, sponsorship etc. Comparing to our raids in the 70s is being deliberately disingenuous.

Perhaps that's on management and players.
Don't understand how people can't see this.

Theres more parties in these discussions. Just because it goes public doesn't mean it was automatically us who took it there.

I'm not begrudging him his choice, however, if the confidence that ITK types had was based on Gaff giving a commitment to NMFC then backflipping, then I think it's pretty poor for Gaff to have said he was coming if he was still undecided. It lacks integrity to my mind and probably suggests either something about his character, or to having been in a really bad place since Brayshaw. Regardless, I'm seriously unimpressed, to put it mildly.

I hope the club eyeballs anyone who gives any such verbal commitment in future. I hope ITKs have learned their lessons re 'confidence', and that I learn my lesson to stay right away and see what comes, when it comes.

Trade period used to be my favourite time of year. Time to get back on my philosophical horse and get the hell out of Dodge.

The 20 minutes of alternating excitement and outrage post-draft is now my favourite time.

He's an emotionally unstable individual if it's true.

Basically held out West Coast fans over a cliff until Lycett's money was put on the table.

Deliberately disingenuous? That ain't me. :smirk look

Still mate we can't excuse this pattern of failure in recruiting a high profile player away. We can't accept that it's one of those things. Someone should be held responsible. Who is the head of our Football Department again? :stern look
