Update:

- Expect has to be linked to Scully in the next day or two. His management will be meeting with Hawks, Saints, us and Carlton. I don’t expect us to play a big part in that, but meeting with his management due to due diligence and all that jazz. (For the record I don’t think he is the right fit for us. Just don’t think he is that good...however he may come quite cheaply. Rumours swirling around that a 2nd or future 2nd will be enough to get it done).

LOL. He is going to Hawthorn. 100%.

Scully’s one of those guys who are good to watch live. Never stops working and always seems to know where the ball’s going next. I’d love him in the royal blue stripes

- we inquired about Jordan Roughhead as a back up ruckman/kp player. Lost interest pretty quickly as his asking price was near on 500k.

- Doing a lot of looking and searching for a backup ruck. Billy Longer, Zac Smith, Tom Nichols, Zac Clarke, Archie Smith, Darcy Fort (SANFL) all have been spoken to so I’m told.

- Sydney offered a future 2nd round pick for Mason Wood. Not even entertained.

- As I mentioned in another earlier post We’ve been on the search for an inside mid. Originally we thought Gaff would fill that role, as he indicated to us he wanted more centre square time. Obviously we got knocked back and this is why we had a change of heart with a Dom Tyson.

- Gold Coast time taken up dealing with Steven May situation. That’s why the Hall thing hasn’t been finalised. We are also waiting on GC to sort out their picks. Think we might be trying to throw them a future pick to get a few more picks for this years draft.

- Other than picking up Hall and maybe a few pick swaps I don’t think we’ll be too active for the rest of the trade period.

- Dayne Beams at this stage hasn’t indicated to Brisbane that he wants out. Barrett went waaaaaaaaay too early with that story.

- there will be heaps of pick trading the coming few days. Clubs trying to position themselves for live trading on the night.

- GWS are busting their nut trying to get rid of Finlayson. Not much interest from clubs to take on his 3 year deal.

- Tom Langdon to end up in Sydney.

- Freo playing hard ball big time on Neale. Wanting 2 first round picks. Would not surprise me to see Neale still in Freo colours next year.

- Tim Kelly will be playing for Geelong next year. WC not willing to part with future 1st for him.

We should still be into Finlayson. If it's a salary dumb, trade them Hrovat and we pay for both.

Finlayson has good upside still with his kicking, size and athletic ability and isn't just a defender. Was a forward as a junior. Get him in and develop him.

Scully and Patton the latest Giants on trade table
Greater Western Sydney knew it faced an unprecedented player exodus this Trade Period as it (a) moved to ease a significant salary cap squeeze and (b) positioned itself to re-sign stars such as Josh Kelly, Stephen Coniglio and Nick Haynes before they come out of contract at the end of 2019.

The scale of that likely exodus expanded on Friday when it emerged Tom Scully was set to be traded to Hawthorn and Jonathon Patton, according to rival clubs, had also been put on the table.

It seems unlikely Patton, who is recovering from his third knee reconstruction, will move, but Scully is all but certain to join Rory Lobb (Fremantle), Dylan Shiel (Essendon) and Will Setterfield (Carlton) in departing Spotless Stadium.

New St Kilda list manager James Gallagher told Macquarie Sports Radio the Saints had tried to enter the Scully race, but his manager, Mark Kleiman of TLA Australia, had told them he would only consider clubs who were closer to contending for premierships.

It's understood other clubs tried to contact Kleiman on Friday but their calls went unanswered, while Essendon, which had been linked with Scully for much of this year, bowed out of the running when Shiel committed to moving to Tullamarine.

Some also hold concerns over the ankle Scully broke in the Giants' round two win over Collingwood at the MCG, an injury serious enough to sideline him for the rest of 2018.

Those concerns dissuaded some Victorian clubs from pursuing Scully and should ensure Hawthorn won't have to part with anything more than its second-round pick, No.35 overall, to secure the midfielder, who was contracted at GWS for another three years.

However, the Hawks no doubt will back their renowned medical team to get one of the game's hardest-running midfielders back to full fitness.

If they can do that, Hawthorn will have snared this year's biggest trade bargain.

I thought this thread was to be closed. By and large it's been quite a reasonable thread with the players we have picked up. However it will be good to see it gone and we can move on, removing that extremely bad taste from our mouths. Be gone the Gaffster, we don't want to ever see or hear your name near this board again. Instead we look forward to when our teams next meet and hopefully we'll get the chocolates and you can choke on the boiled lollies. (rammed down your throat by Jack or Cunners in a bone jarring shirtfront.)
