Surprised at the angst shown here towards Pittard. I think he's quicker than all of our half backs and a penetrating kick. Polec on a wing and Pittard off half back adds speed, run and carry.

Polec, Pittard and points for 11 and future forth is a bargain.
Totally agree, the angst towards this guy is weird imo.

He's one of those blokes that is actually a good kick most of the time, because he takes his time and holds on to the ball to look for good options.

The downside of that is you get caught sometimes.
Pittard on one flank and McDonald on the other
When we play a Victorian team at Etihad and the momentum is against us, the cry of ball when they get pinned for taking too long to dispose of it will crush me internally. Like watching a David Attenborough documentary on young cubs and a vulture come and pick at the weakest one in the litter :(

I’d argue that McDonald, Ahern & Dumont are inside mids

Dumont hasn't exactly shown amazing ability in tight. I sometimes think we assume that slower mids = inside. In reality he's shown the most ability when given a little more space because his strength is in his very tidy disposal but I don't think (like Ahern) that Dumont is as good under very tight attention. McDonald hasn't shown he's anything as yet.

Out of curiosity what would you give up for him if we were chasing him, as an out of contract player with questionable disposal?

There's too many intangibles attached to a player's value in draft picks but Ryans a workhorse and his career has value to it in the fact that:

A) he is fit as anybody
B) he has a net positive contribution to the team
C)hes young and will make it as a career footballer

So yeah- I'd take a player because draft pick value wise I'd put him mid 20s but thats clearly over the top as draft picks are rated on what they have the potential to give you while you know what you get with Clarke- a 150+ game career.

As an aside I firmly believe our gameplan plays against his strengths. We handball too much to make use of him properly.

Yeah, & they get next years 4th round pick.

Out: Pick 11, 2019 4th round and Preuss
In: Pick 48, Polec, Hall, Tyson, Pittard, Thomas, Scott and Crocker.

Seriously, if anyone's complaining about that then they are manic depressives.
I’m with you on this.
Pittard is a massive upgrade on those that were delisted and many still on our list.

Manic depressives. Sounds like a band from the 80’s and describes so many posters.

I think we are building depth and adding players with much upside. I’ll back NMFC to get the best out of all them.

I think people got in their head that we were somehow going to get a pick in the 20s back with Polec.
When I 1st heard it on the wireless this morning I was not sold on it, but it sounded like it was a lone deal. Thrown in with Polec and a pick exchange its a whole heap nicer. Anyway, giddyup, hope he goes well :)

I already was, to be fair. The last three GFs have just sorta... increased my medication.

With Scott nominating us plus his desire to study in Melb, surely other clubs would avoid a bid? At least interstate clubs. GC upgrading picks wouldn't have anything to do with this?

Also what are our current picks looking like GR if you have them handy?

Think of it this way Pittard took Hartungs spot on the list.
He certainly is an upgrade.

I think this line indicates you were always going to be very disappointed with this trade.

This one.

31, 42, 48, 57, 67

I never said it would be a career filled with glittering accolades but every club needs role players.

Anyway, a look at our recent drafting shows how fraught with risk the draft actually is, which is why I'd prefer to get an established player.
