As mentioned before. Anybody who pays to watch the Giants or the Suns play are dumb with the amount of freebies givnen out

I live here and aside from the occasional promotion i get as a member to bring some friends for free, i dont see ads or info on how to obtain free tickets. Tell me more

Interestingly, Gold Coast Suns make about double the ticket and membership revenue than any of the Sydney NRL clubs whose annual reports I could find (Bulldogs, Sharks, Roosters (2017), Eels, Panthers). GWS is also ahead of several of them (Bulldogs, Eels, Panthers), although these figures are extremely comparable (except with the Roosters who sit about $1m ahead of the others). Unfortunately, not many NRL clubs report as far as I can find, so it's hard to find much more information.

Apart from the Broncos, the quantum of revenue the NRL clubs make from football operations is miniscule.

Not wrong. Just highlighting that it's a bit rich for some to criticise GCS and GWS for giving out free tickets (as if that's really even a bad thing) when they're making as much (in GWS's case) or significantly more (GCS's case) than the NRL counterparts from ticketing and membership.

And on top of that, the Titans are the only club who opened their gates for free for something like half a season - you didn't even have to go to the fabled servo to get your free tickets!!

You can blame the Hawks band wagoners for dropping of like flies and who are now starting to realize their team is second rate.

Not criticising the turnout as such, just that we can’t get 50k to Docklands any more.

It seems as if ~ 42k is the ‘sellout’ for an Essendon home game at Docklands against an interstate side, which pushes to 44-45k against a Melbourne side. It’s a very annoying problem. Whenever games are sold out when Essendon are the away team crowds seem to be ~47k. Is this because smaller Melbourne clubs a) have less reserved seat members; or b) they have a higher percentage of reserved seat members that turn up? Why did Essendon home games a year ago push or even exceed 50k but now they get nowhere close?

How many tickets are even for public sale for Essendon home games at Docklands?Away Melbourne clubs’ supporters at Essendon home games don’t seem much different than if Sydney were playing.

Essendon has two difficult games coming up - West Coast and GWS - if they lose both their season is shot. If they win one they are still in the hunt which will make the crowd in round 15 against Sydney at the MCG interesting. It should pass 50k in good weather as opposed to the typical 42k ‘sellout’.

People forget that the MCG has tens of thousands of MCC and AFL members that dont support either team so a 55 - 60,000 crowd with maybe 10,000- 15,000 of these members at the G is no better than 45,000 at Marvel.
I think you will also find a 45k crowd at Marvel is much better financially for Essendon and the AFL and has a way better atmosphere.

how can you complain about 44k between two teams a bit off the pace at a stadium people hate for some reason? Thats an impressive crowd

I think you’re vastly overestimating the amount of neutrals that attend normal matches. The big events like ANZAC Day, season opener and Dreamtime are the only ones that would get anywhere near those figures. Finals definitely a different story.

Also AFL Members can get into Docklands for minimal cost or free as well. There’s always plenty of them at Docklands.
