Nope.. Im not.
Go beyond the top 10 or 15 draftees.
Look at the 2nd round on!

I'm speaking from the swans point.. lots are chosen, few arw going beyond neafl!
Yup, many of those Vic kids played Private School footy as well.

Just a quick look at the 2017 draft, Dylan Moore pick 67 Caufield Grammar, Toby Wooler pick 41 Scotts College. Your own pick 53, Ryley Stoddart, Yarra Valley Grammar in the AGSV competition.

It's not just the top draftees in the Private School system.

As for the Swans draftees, well that's on the Swans recruiters.

Two final points.

1) I'm not arguing NAB Cup or Private School footy is better than SANFL, WAFL or NEAFL.

2) And I should have mentioned this before, NAB Cup and Private school footy get reported on, because there are people in Victoria, Cal Twomey, Knightmare, AFL Draft Central, Matt Balmer at Fox Footy who live in Victoria and go out of their way to watch and report on these kids.

You want to read about the kids in the SANFL or NEAFL, etc. Well get out there to watch and reporting on these kids yourselves, because there's almost no one else doing it outside of Victoria. It's not the Vic draft watchers and reporters fault, it's your own State's sports reporters you need to whinge about.

I suspect some are quite happy about it ... we picked a WA kid at 15 , SA kids at 48 and 50 , a SA ex geelong player at 65 and a SA kid at 68.... Of course a FS Falcon at 74 and a Geelong VFL player in the Rookie ..but I suspect some in the game quite like that the Vic get a lot of attention ..and others less so.

Gee the teams are out for this weeks NAB league, the academy teams have loaded up with all their 19 year olds and some of the leading Vic teams have been stripped bare. Will make for some interesting scorelines and can see some of the academy goal kickers and possession winners having a day out

Academy loaded up on their 19s?
The Swans have omitted their only 19 year old from last week to make way for their usual starting mid!
So NO over agers at all... but are also running with a few under agers!

Can’t speak for the two NSW teams, but the QLD teams haven’t brought all their U19 kids in. Lions have added three, plus a 17 year old. And we’ve left our best two U19’s in our NEAFL team.

But let’s not forget, most of the NAB league teams have two or three U19’s as well.

The GWS team has played several 19s in the first 2 games.
Imagine how much they would have lost by without them!!

Your 3 examples only seem to make my point.
Stoddart has played 1 or 2 afl games, but his skill doesn't make up for his size, and is continually out muscled by men in the NEAFL. He was a great player at school, against boys.
The other 2 you mentioned havent played a game of AFL either.
I agree that the sports pundits in nsw should get out more and report on their draftable commodities, but with the academy series adding the northern academies, you would think that recruiters would want to see them play the best TAC players to compare, but no! Vic metro and vic country are playing each other.
That is just a little too cynical for my liking.
Swans have been blooding their top end academy players through the NEAFL for ages now, with several 18 year olds and 3 x 17 year olds playing in the prelim/grand final last year.

We must be on two different wave lengths because my point was that almost every draft-able Vic kid plays Private school footy, so the standard of Private school footy wouldn’t be to dissimilar to NAB cup.

The step up to AFL is a big step up, even for kids coming from the SANFL.

For the most part, talent wins out.

But there are just as many kids drafted in the second round and beyond who have played SANFL and had little to no impact at AFL level.

Same with NEAFL. We’ve got half a dozen ex academy kids we’ve drafted late in the last couple of years, who haven’t had a look in at AFL level yet, largely because they’re not ready yet, or talented enough.

At the end of the day talent is the primary determining difference, and typically the talent runs deeper in Vic.

Will any of the 19 year olds be drafted this year . Stackenberg , Coleman and Marsh are the ones who have impressed me

Stackleberg is a good inside small Mid who looks comfortable at NEAFL level but may appreciate Under 18 level for a few games. Coleman’s question mark was his ability to defend, great attacking off half back but needs to find the balance of when to attack or defend. Marsh was good last week in the NEAFL with 25 so is interesting that he is playing Academy this week. More recruiters attention? Academy Mids don’t run that deep so him and Stackleberg are a bit of insurance? Who knows. Will they get drafted? - Mids are a dime a dozen at the moment so you would want to be exceptional at your craft. Coleman could be the lucky one however there are some half backs playing now who look to have the goods IMO.

Coleman would also be competing with Reville for a possible list spot.

Also have to look at the Lions needs and football philosophy. It has been discussed on the Lions board that Fagan might not place a high value on out and out wingers, but prefer to play balanced mids on the wings, players who offer offence and play defence.

At this stage, players such as Tom Cutler and Lewy Taylor who offer good offence down the wings aren't getting a look in as they aren't noted two way runners.

On that premise I don’t think Reville is your man. Forward and receiving yes.

Ryan Sturgess and Sam Philip must come to AFL attention. Cracking footballers and cracking kids. Sturgess has been talked about and Philp a real smoky.

Sturgess is imo the best player at Sandy this year..

Newbie question why do the boys play school footy over nab league.wouldn't playing at Sandy, knights promote development ?

Green is dead set a jet gets he's hands free every contest he might crack 50 touches today on 20 at hf..

Scary to think they get him for essendon draft pick as it stands with discounts.

Checked out the two games at Sandy
Swans have a gun under ager Errol geddes so smooth as a winger. And Thorne..

Sandy le grice only player of note really dig the link up play.and hipwell.

Gws t green is a gun.he was rucking to lol pick 1 surely.. Gardiner is the best ruck I've seen so far this year.and James peatinh so smooth.
Knights are crap Sam Philip mum is nice but he had a huh game. Knights will be strong new year but

I rate next year's crop already lol

Did you mean Errol Gulden or M.Geddes (don't know his first name)? As for Gulden, I love the look of him. Just a pity he is not eligible for the draft until 2020.

Out of interest do you think Thorne looks like he has a reasonable chance of being drafted this year?

That's the guy got the name wrong. ran out of legs in the 3rd but he stood out.
Thorne stood out unsure he is big enough but had real x factor.
The other is Campbell smashed a 60m goal a bit to work with..

Ace from the Suns Academy is tiny, but he oozes natural footballer.
Interesting stats here, one of the Gold Coast players had seven scoring shots alone ,doubt that would have happened against a full strength oakleigh side

This is the issue!
The Northern academies can only play and win or lose against the team that takes the field.
It is an absolute disgrace that the Vics show so little regard and have their trials on the first round where they play the Northern academies, then cast doubt over the validity of the result.
Damned if they do, damned if they dont.
