Treading lightly but just my two cents on the Jack Martin mess.

I think the concensus from the media was an early 2nd rounder is fair. Considering the media love a bad Carlton story eg the trade disaster can't say they are on our side, ever.... So let's say pick 20-25 which I think is correct for an out of contract player. Personally I think Jack has talent but has never really delivered. We saw the same thing at our club with Troy Menzal, Kristian Jaksch and Jarrod Pickett. Two of those names were traded in to our club both early draft picks at other clubs that never worked hard enough. This could be Jack Martin sadly.

I think what really blew this deal up is the value of draft picks for GCS is deminished after the package handed to you by the AFL. Not having a go about that but that is just the reality. It's easy to stand firm on peanuts when you have cavier in the bank :).

Honestly to me it actually looks so bad to be forcing a player to stay by saying you will redraft. If Jack ends up at Melborune so be it. But having a "tough" culture and doing the wrong thing by actual people is a fine line.
That was actually a well thought out post... Then you followed it up by sticking your foot in it.

Well done.

Have a massive soft spot for the suns, lived in Mooloolaba from 2011-2014 but hated the GABBA so used to get my fix going to Metricon.

Regardless of that can appreciate what the club is trying to achieve. Next step get Max King off the Saints haha
If you've got a soft spot for the Suns feel free to stick around, We won't razz you too hard when we play the Dons so long as you be gentle with us when you win.

And 100%, Gabba is a concrete hell-hole can't stand the place... Of course it's closer to me than Metricon

Next step is getting Luko's signature but I don't mind the Max King idea.

Why are Carlton supporters coming in here offering their opinions? I don't care.
Most of them are salty AF that SOS bottled the trade and want to blame us for it because we're the easy target to the interstate pigeons out there.

Papley is contracted which is entirely different.

As I said the picks were peanuts purely because of the assistance package. I literally called them peanuts :/ but Martin is out of contract and considered to be worth an early second by the majority. As I also said it isn't exactly standing firm when you have a bank full of gifted picks :/.

I love the suggestion of losing trade period. I'd rather not overpay and keep our list and future in tact to be fair.

All that comes out of this to me is a culture of retaining players against their will which is honestly a path you shouldn't go down as a club.

But I'll take my leave :) Goodluck in 2020!!!

We won't be retaining him.

If we thought that he was a professional like Dangerfield or Tim Kelly we probably then we would consider it. He was the only player not to buy in last year, pouted, jogged through games, hid in the corner of pubs drinking beers by himself. In summary he has poor character.

The club as a whole will be better for him not being there next year, with the outflow if talent being more than offset by the synergy of the collective.

If you rewind the tape you won’t be overpaying in draft picks but salary cap if you don’t want us or the demons matching your bid.

Ideally the suns sign him for One year and if doesn’t want to have a go he plays in NEAFL. He then goes as a restricted free agent seems like a win for the suns. We could get an end of first round compensation pick and you get your player.

Created a hard line stance and walk away with something of value.

Would love a bit of Trent Rivers at 15 if Jackson, Gould and Weightman are gone.

Versatile 188cm half back / midfielder ready made who has already succeeded at WAFL senior level.

So you now saw it somewhere on Twitter but weren't concerned enough to screenshot it or reply to it (which would make it very easy to find again).
But claim "exposed" as evidence of racism endemic throughout a club with 70000 members?
Why is this not also 'baiting'? STFU and we'll stand with Bods!

We're playing whack a mole as quickly as we can with these invaders that want to chat shit, We thank everyone for your understanding, patience and not biting too hard on the flame bait.

Once again. Visitors from other clubs are more than welcome so long as they are reasonable, As soon as constructive discussion degenerates into trolling and baiting then you're really making our jobs easy for us.

Those that have conducted themselves properly from outside the Sunshine State: You have my thanks and an open invite to stick around for as long as you like.

Pickett was a pick 4 for GWS. :/

Talent and reality are very different things is my point. If Jack Martin is so highly regarded why was he dropped exactly? I'm going to say for not working hard enough. Which has been the downfall of so many talented players.
Also no two drafts are the same - pick two next year in a compromised draft is not worth having at all - hence why we didn’t do the deal

pick 25 this year might have got it done but all you had was 9 and one in the forties

Firstly I didn't go to Trinity, Trini refers to someone from Trinidad. Secondly the only way a list is improved is trading/attracting and developing players which your club hasn't done well.
My first thought was you were from Trini so you’ve just been smoking too much herb ya man.

So correct. Been saying he is ******* awful at list management since the GWS days. Incredibly overrated and one of, if not THE worst list manager in the competition.
He was overrated as a FB as well. Definitely not the fullback of the century anyway.

SOS wouldn't get a game today
Because he was Serge's son they tried him everywhere and finally dumped him at fullback
Slow as a wet week and his one trick was to hang off the forwards
In today's game with 3 umpires he'd be giving away 6 goals a game

Truer words have never been spoken.

Probably because your club is currently having a massive impact on the Integrity of the competition. Just a thought.

But Goodluck:)
Just stunned that a Carlton supporter would question another club’s impact on the integrity of the competition!!! The biggest cheats who ever carried brown paper bags in the history of the VFL / AFL accusing a young club making a stand on the value of one of its players during the trade period of impacting the integrity of the league. FMD!!!

Looking at a couple of phantom drafts floating around at the moment, We could end up with something like this
1 - Rowell
2 - Anderson
15 - Will Gould
20 - Trent Bianco
The first 3 picks would be absolutely perfect for us, I’m not sold on Bianco but he has played with Rowell and Anderson and does have some speed which fills a need.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on that?

I'd be stoked with Gould & Bianco at 15 & 20. Bianco is good by foot.
Hoping that bids on Maginness, Henry and Green don't come in too early to push us back further.
Player retention could see Will Day come into our plans with him being Sam's cousin and Sam re signing.

Bianco is probably the best kick in the draft as well. Being undersized is his knock.

Gould at 15 is probably a pipe dream.

Saw on a draft board a Hawks supporter say that if Maguiness wasn't taken on the first night that he hoped the Hawks would offer their 2020 1st for our pick 20 at the start of the 2nd day.

I would be wanting that pick and a late 2nd / early 3rd to use on a player we like that is not highly rated.

There is no Vacuum in the AFL.
Every decision and action rolls on to the next.

Ainsworth and Brodie re-signing impacted Rankine and King re-signing which impacts the next set of re-signings.

Just like having a dud set-up for 7 or 8 years impacted our ability to be a good football club the next year.

The fact we did not trade Martin impacts the next trade of a want-away player that has a big contract being offered by the other club. No doubt. In good and bad ways. Ill will does no one any good.

Just like the Blues and the Swans will both feel the impact of getting players to publicly commit and then not being willing to offer what the other club wanted to get the deal done. The biggest losers here are Daniher, Papley and Martin and players in the future will certainly not want to be in the same position.

Yes the Blues might still get Martin without giving up a pick, but as the Southpark guys wrote, "freedom isn't free, it comes with a hefty effing fee".

For Key defensive depth - Kaiden Brand fits the bill.
Yes, he has a mistake in him, but very harsh to be delisted - I've seen him play some good footy.
The guy just wants to play on. He knows SD obviously so easy to buy into his vision.
Worth asking the question.
I'd re-draft Martin on performance based salary - give him one last shot to dig deep. Letting him walk for nothing achieves nothing.
Nicely played by us - a very decent trade period, and a huge step in the right direction. 6-7 wins and no off-field shenanigans would be a good year.

If they want a leg up then at least a 2nd pick involved.
Watch Hawthorn then make the top 4 and that pick blow out....
Is not having to match academy bids just for this year or indefinite? It’s a massive bonus.
