I would be happy with either, but yes, Rivers ahead of young

Big call Arr0w Interesting and granted I haven't watched a lot of junior football this year, but I don't see Ash nor Rivers ultimately being the better players
Maybe I just see too much Haynes in Young and have been seduced given how high I rate what Haynes does.

If we do take Kemp then fine, but I just wouldn't/couldn't do it, factoring in him being out of play for a whole year. Lots can change in a year.

We take Serong (if indeed we hand onto the #9) and he'd likely start round 1 and develop from there.

Where do you think Serong would fit hypothetically in a round 1 team?

I can't find a spot for him yet. He doesn't displace Cuningham or Martin from their posts, probably neither Fisher. Needs a fair amount of conditioning first. Perhaps I am underrating him?

Gotta see how they all compare in training, for sure.

Not worried about round 1 for draftees, if that was the case, Stocker and many others would be considered failures

Always the long game, anything they show early is a bonus

Everyone likes to show off their pick early. :)

I've heard that Teague likes Serong and he liked Kemp too, but I just can't see how you not take the plug and play player.
As a coach I'd take what I need first and get a year under the belt of said player. That's understandable even if ultimately proved to be wrong.

I'm now somewhat confident that should we hold onto our pick, the name Serong will be called out and not Kemp any more. We'll see.

What are people's thoughts on Deven Roberton?
Under rated, if that is possible for a first round certainty.
Seeing a possible Selwood, without the ducking. Tough kid, gets heaps of the pill, high impact. Almost single handedly got the better of Rowell and
Anderson.

I just don't see the need for us to take another mid only type, we will struggle to find room for what we have when they mature. Certainly would not
complain if his name was called for us though on quality.

I agree on the lack of need for us to take another mid only type although a fast outside mid with good ball use could find a spot. I just saw a phantom draft with us taking him but they did have both Serong and Stephens gone before our pick.

Thanks

I've been waxing and waning on this for a long time.

I've now decided that my preferences (removing Rowell, Anderson, Henry and Green from the equation) are in order:

1. Brodie Kemp - Bontempelli type utility, potentially replacing Cripps when he hits his peak, meaning we have a sustainable wave coming behind our current stars. I'll take the ACL risk.

2. Lachlan Ash - Yes, we have HBF's but none with this sort of pace and kicking ability together. Doc is our cream but is now a risk. Ash can defend one on one and get back quickly as well as rebound and provide goal assists.

3. Dylan Stephens - Seems like a good kid. Loves Teague already which I like. We need pace. LOB and Martin if he gets here are two of our outside speedsters, but they are by no means express. Stephens offers that outside run, but also can provide penetrating run through the corridor.

4. Deven Robertson - Leadership and drive. Ability to get to contests and accumulate. Kicking is a knock but Walshy isn't exactly elite in that area either and we wouldn't trade what he can do.

5. Caleb Serong - versatilty and tenacity appeal. Inside and outside mid and effective forward with goal sense. Not keen on his size and kicking. They just seem to float and not spin right. Trained with us pre-season so if we choose him, we've certainly done our homework. Maybe prefer to get a Cahill type at #43 instead of selecting Serong as a small forward.

6. Sam Flanders - Just haven't warmed to him as much. Good medium forward. Good inside mid. Plays on the edge. Not sure he offers something we haven't got.

7. Hayden Young - Very good defender and elite kick but he's not a line breaker or attacking defender, so like Flanders, even though he may be better than others, doesn't offer a lot that we lack.

8. Luke Jackson - Purely as a Kreuzer replacement in a similar mould but with the leap of Grundy. Not needed at this point.

If it's not too much to ask, all I want is for whoever we get with our first pick to be recognised, in time, as clearly the stand-out player of this draft year and a star of the competition.

Thanks.

I don't care about that.
I just want them to be a loyal, 1 club player who retires with more Premierships than Michael Tuck.

......and that's just for starters. :)

The player I want is the one that will serve the squad best, in the short and the long term.
Don't really care for us beating our chest because we've 'found' the next this nor that, but just the player that makes the whole best.

It's now possible that the majority win out should we take Stephens which makes sense, but still hearing Serong....which means it will be Young.

Agree bit it’s finesse, skill , accurate & penetrating kicking and sharp footy IQ that wins one games of footy.

And you are insinuating Serong lacks those?

You would be wrong, on most accounts. His hands at ground level and in the air are absolutely elite and he is a very smart footballer. Kicking is good, not elite.

I have tended to feel like keeping pick 9 and taking best available. When I try to do a 'best 22' I feel like I am leaving someone out, so it looks we are getting depth - although in front half I still have some questions. But say we do split 9, what is most likely in terms of picks, and more importantly, who would we most probably get? For example, would both Kemp and Bergman be a reasonable probability, and do we need a combination of such?

Two parts to this:

1. The poll is: Who do you want with our first pick of the 2019 draft be it a #9 or #10.
2. The second question is: Who do you think we'll get?

The poll may ultimately be meaningless given live trading, but just for the exercise.
I won't be dropping names Rowell, Anderson, Green, Henry, Jackson or Flanders, Maginness or McAsey here, only because I doubt they'll be available or accessible.

1. Young
2. D.Stephens
