Spud replacement aside, we dont seem to want for defenders. But im all for getting a graders cheap.

theres a couple or more in the back six who could be forward threats

If he comes to us he will end up being our second best midfielder behind Mitchell. He has a lot of improvent in him and has some pretty hand tools to work with. All the negativity is just amusing...we love s**tting on opposition players.
Get your hand off it, if he was our second best midfielder we might as well fold and hand our license in.

Potential to be better than O'Meara & Worpel yes. He just needs a bit of time with Sir Sammy.
Exclude Wingard because all indications from the club suggest we still want to play him forward. If Wingard is a permanent midfielder then clearly he's at the top of the food chain.
Agree. Wingard looks like a better player now.

Don't think so. You're on the opposite end of the spectrum here, overrating him to an absurd point.

SPP is a good bustling player who thrives in a contest and can break a tackle but that's about it. He gets too worked up on the field and shows it, he has very average foot skills and he has too many games where he's more a liability.

I understand depth is good, but he will be on that fringe where he's too good for the VFL but won't be able to keep a spot in the seniors.

That being said, he was a decent forward in his U18 years and he's got some pace and tackling ability. Maybe that would be the move if we do go for him.

Without naming names player-wise, what does everyone see as our actual positional needs to crack back into the top 4/8 again?

For me it’s:

1- A quick/surging half forward, pressure forward who kicks 25 goals a season

2- A bona fide CHB to compliment/fill in for Chip and free up Sis

3 - Similar to point 1 a pacey pure forward pocket player

For mine it’s all about fixing the clearance differential, Hawks rated last in the comp this year. I would say priorities are ball winners and classy finishers considering the focus to scores from turnovers.

A goal kicking midfielder would be great.

A running half back flank to replace Impey/smith.

A kpp

Reckon as a burst away mid with pace to complement Worpel, Mitchell and O'Meara. A CHB and a pure pace small forward. Question is are these guys already on the list? Feel like the young small forwards we have tried arent able to chase like Cyril and Poppy have for the last 5-10 years.

Any reason we don't use that Coniglio money and aim for Martin?

Move Wingard to the midfield and Martin is the small forward we are looking for?
Never quite seen the attraction of Martin (the GC one I assume you are talking about). He may have been a standout as a junior but he is just a solid player. Don't think his body is going to get any stronger than what it is and so he is limited in te roles he can play. At the reported $700 pa, giving him a wide berth is the right thing to do.

Yep Jack Martin.

We have the cash available and I am sure we could discuss a Hawthorn discount.

We need a good small forward.

He fits the bill.

May not have the manic pressure of Puopulo but would be an upgrade.

Jaegar and Scrimshaw both turned out fine once we removed the GC from them :)
